“In General, a pleasant stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2011

My Husband and I stayed at the hotel for 7 nights to celebrate our honeymoon. The beginning was tough. We arrived, and although we had requested a nice quiet room the room we received was far from it. We received a room on the first floor right next to the lifts. After going back down to the reception and complaining we were transfered to a different room, quieter but the size of a shoe-box. Again, we asked to move to a different room and we were moved the next day.
The new room was lovely. Really really lovely. Big and airy with a nice queen sized bed.
All three rooms we saw were clean and tidy. The house-keeping staff does a good job keeping the rooms clean.
Breakfast is very nice, a full English Breakfast. The only downside is that is doesn't change at all, it's the same breakfast every day.
The only real problem we had was that one day, we came back to our room in the evening and discovered the door was open. The door always needed to be forcefully shut and the cleaner didn't do this. Nothing was taken, no harm done and the cleaners were advised to notice this door.
The bar is ok, we sat and had a drink there a couple of times.
Of course, the main good point of this hotel is it's amazing location. 7 minutes walk from the Bond St. Tube station and 7 minutes walk to Oxford circus.

Room Tip: Ask. Better rooms do exist.

This hotel is in a former Edwardian home. The lobby is very lovely. This hotel is nice. Their restaurant has a wonderful menu.

Room Tip: Call direct to the hotel if you need an ADA room )

The plus of this hotel (formerly called 'The Londoner') is the location. It's minutes from Oxford Street, one of London's busiest (although not best) shopping streets. It's close to Marylebone High Street too and London's 'medical' district where top physicians and surgeons have their offices. The hotel looks good from outside, it's an imposing building. The lobby is very ordinary and out dated. The lobby bar is absolutely foul! Cheap furniture and off-hand service. It feels out of place though as the night I was there (briefly) it was populated by lots of elderly people on mid-week breaks in London - it looked as though it should have been in Blackpool or on one of the cheaper Spanish costas. I had a junior suite. It was very clean but quite basic. The TV's were good but dreadfully complicated to turn on - lots of button pressing and options simply to watch the news. But yippee, there was a trouser press! The corridor areas of the hotel look very 1970's and badly need refurbishing. All in all, an okay stay but I wouldn't rush back. The nearby Holiday Inn Regents Park is in a foul looking building but it's a better place to stay.

The hotel is within 10 mins walking distance from Oxford Circus station.

As I stayed at this hotel with 2 other colleagues (each to a room), we each had varying quality of rooms. One had a refurbished room with new fittings (and a window that a burglar could potentially jumped through), one had a tiny oldish room, and I had one that could be best described as well-maintained 70's styled room of a decent size.

The bed was soft on one side and firm on the other (queen size), the TV was crt, the in-house movies didn't work, there was more than enough wardrobe space, the wallpaper was of a maroon colour (might be a little creepy for some) and the toilet was good for its age (no mildew or noticeable cracks etc).

The reception service was moody. The staff generally seemed disinterested. The concierge was pretty helpful though.

Would I return? Probably not, but for what it's worth, the hotel is of a average standard that would be OK for most.

From the outside into the lounge, you feel you are likely to get something special. Delve into the rooms and you feel you went back in time.
The receptionist was efficient in checking me in but neglected to inform us of breakfast times or even ask us if we'd like breakfast! Despite the efficiency, I felt hurried during the check in process and didn't get a chance to ask about breakfast. Therefore we chose to go to garfunkel's which is only 5mins round the corner on oxford street. If they don't want my money, I'm happy to spend it elsewhere!
I got into the room only to find a very dated look. Wooden furniture, old curtains, single glazed windows with paintwork peeling off and an old crt tv with minimal channels, not to mention equipment provided that didn't work. i.e iron.
During my stay, I didn't get much sleep. Thinking that some other reviewers were being over dramatic about hearing everything, I can honestly say, it's all true! I could hear the smallest of things and on each night, was woken up by who I believe was staff because I got out of bed to look through the spy hole and saw somebody open a door opposite the lifts which were clearly staff only. Clearly no respect for their guests! Housekeeping were no better, banging bin lids and rustling bin bags etc.
I don't know what h/k clean when they enter the rooms because when I returned after being out all day, drinks glasses were left in the room from the previous night, the bathroom wasn't done properly but they chose to take my key card from slot without consent - which I purposefully left so the air con would remain on! There were glasses and plates left in hallways at times.
The only pleasant thing to say was that the bar and lounge did have a nice look. The staff on the other hand, not so welcoming - it doesn't hurt to smile once in a while! I'm sure at times, time can go slow but surely there are better and more important things to do than sit at the end of the bar and read magazines? So show interest in your guests and perhaps they would spend more money because they feel welcome.

The location is quite literally the best attribute this hotel has to offer, it's the only reason I gave it an extra star rating but to say I wouldn't return is an understatement.!

Unclean
Out of date
Disgusting service
If you a priority club member, forget it, the staff do not recognise priority club.
After having appalling check-in service as a platinum member, I asked if there wad an upgrade available. I was told there wasn't one. When I pushed hard, one suddenly became available. So this suggest they do not do room upgrades for loyalty members.

Not looking forward to breakfast tomorrow!

LOCATION: near the underground and near the shopping area however if you have heavy luggages it's difficult.

ROOMS: the room is tiny, old fashion bathroom, it's weird how they installed refillable shampoo bottle on the wall ( i think it's unsanitary you can catch something from previous guest that used it ), the television is old but the best thing in the room is there BED it's VERY comfortable.

Service: the front desk are not helpful nor friendly very bland they will not go and beyond to satisfy their guest but the HOUSE KEEPING CREW are excellent friendly and helpful more than front desk which is kind of weird.

OVERALL: 6.5/10
