“perfect location for shopping weekend”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

i stayed at the cumberland hotel for a christmas shopping weekend in december with my husband, daughter and young grandson. on arrival we where shown to our rooms one being ok and the other was that small we couldnt get all the luggage in! after some confusion with the reception after requesting a change of rooms as we needed to be near each other as stated when we booked i went to reception myself to sort it out myself. expecting a problem and not looking forward to the confrontation i waited for the head house keeper to arrive. she was so pleasant and helpful she upgraded our rooms to executive rooms which where huge and very nice with great views of hyde parks winter wonderland. we had to queue at breakfast to be seated they where extremely busy as we expected but where very efficent and we we seated in no time the breakfast was excellent if you want a fab hotel with fab staff and food then this is the hotel for you.

Room Tip: make sure you explain exactly what type of room you expect

Very smart hotel in a great location to shops and transport links. Hotel was clean and staff very friendly. Room was also clean, warm and comfortable although a little small. We had a meal early evening in The Brasserie before going out and it was first class ,of good quality and sensibly priced.

We were able to leave our bags with the Concierge on our departure day which enabled us to do a last minute visit

Room Tip: We went for the cheapest basic room but would probably pay more next time to get slightly more space

I was staying for 2 nights and was given a double room with a large en-suite. The room was clean and comfortable and very quiet. It was away from the street side of the hotel. The staff were very efficient and helpful. I had stayed there 12 years ago when the breakfast room was more like a restaurant, but since then they have changed it to a self service refectory style room which I did not like so much. The food was good but the surroundings were not as relaxing as on my previous visit. The hotel is extremely near an underground station and it is a very handy location for sight-seeing in central London.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the street side if you don't want to hear traffic during the night.

Beautiful hotel, fabulous location. Definitely going back. I booked this through a third party website and got 2 night's for the price of one which was great. It would have been pretty expensive for just 1 night but you get what you pay for.

Overall the sevice is good, the hotel Bar / Brasserie has expansive but good cocktails and nice food, and of course the location is amazing - stacked between the entrance to Hyde Park, a Tube station and close to all the hottest shopping spots, so you can go back to store your shopping bags in the hotel and storm the shops again - all light and elegant and unburdened.

Room-wise - it's def. not a luxury hotel, don't expect to be spoiled. And BEWARE of being put in the second, older building in the basement rooms - if they try to shove you there, stand your ground and demand a normal room in the newer building - they will succumb if you are firm enough (mind, they try to do it to all the arriving guests, so it's nothing personal :)

The location of the hotel for the west end was perfect.

Hyde park is opposite too which was an added bonus

However the thing that will make me not go back again was the noise from the nightclub situated in the hotel

We were on the 3rd floor and could hear the music until 3am. We are both not light sleepers but the noise was so loud. We even put the room heating on in the hope that it would drown out the noise

Informed the receptionist the next day and she had nothing to say about the matter

Room Tip: Get the highest room you can

I booked this hotel for my husbands birthday with his sister and husband. When we arrived at 3 pm our room was not ready and they said they were putting us in their hotel down the road! We did not accept this as an option as we came with friends who were staying in the main hotel. We had an executive room without breakfast. We decided not to book breakfast at £22 each. The room was tiny and I have stayed in better rooms without the executive option. Garish decor of lime green with a big glass mural of horses behind the bed! The executive suite was largely unmanned and when we first walked in there were glasses and plates everywhere. Not what you would expect. We had dinner in the Brasserie that night which was nice but could have been better and certainly not worth the money dithery charged. The only thing going for the hotel was the central location but in all other aspects its was disappointing and I will not be returning there.
