“Good hotel in a great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2012

Just returned from an overnight stay at The Cumberland, Marble Arch.

It is located at the top of Oxford street, approximately 5-10 minute walk from Selfridges, and 2 minutes walk from Marble Arch tube station.

The lobby is big, modern and spacious.
Checking in was no problem, and they even let us check in early which was very convenient for us.

I booked online through Agoda and had requested a room on a high level, to try and ensure it would be quiet.
This was taken into consideration and our room was on the 7th floor.

Our room (7121) was fairly small, as was expected by the other reviews, but perfectly fit for purpose.

Very comfortable bed, with tv mounted on wall in front of it.

We opted for the walk-in shower bathroom, which was excellent.
Very modern, clean etc...
The shower could do with a little more power though (just personal preference)

Breakfast was just over £22 / person.
However, on checking in, we received a 50% voucher, making it just over £11/person. Still pretty steep, but more realistic.
Good selection of cooked food (bacon, scrambled eggs, omelette's, etc...) as well as cereals, fruits and pastries.

Only a couple of minor problems with this hotel:

There were not enough plug sockets.
I could only find one plug socket by the door- to charge our phones, cameras etc...
Later, I discovered two more hidden behind the desk in the room.
There were none by the bed, meaning I couldn't easily charge my phone overnight without having it across the other side of the room

Wifi didn't work.
Despite there being numerous notices up about the fast, free wifi throughout the hotel, the signal was so weak in room 7121 that it wouldn't connect.

Good Conference facilities and this is really a business and meetings / conference hotel.
Good location but difficult to pull up in a car outside for more than a minute even to unload luggage.
Small rooms - I stayed in an Executive Double and you couldn't swing a cat.
Electric shower wasn't working properly but was efficiently fixed.
Staff friendly and helpful.
Restaurant food very average.
Conference lunchtime food very good.

Stayed in executive block the next building to main hotel. Rooms very nice and good value for central London. Breakfast ok but small self-service trays for the size of the hotel. Bar area very nice and good place to meet. Overall -very good.

Stayed last night overall all good, nice room and bed, but just a bit dark for me.

The bar service was good and breakfast was tasty, with a good choice.

The reception area is very modern and has great mood effect!,
Would stay again.

Room Tip: Avoid check after 4pm very busy

Stayed for one night in a standard room. First floor right by the lifts but this did not cause any problems. Our view was the rear overlooking air conditioning units and other rooms, again this did no cause a problem for us we hadn’t come for the view after all! The room is not big but serviceable, full length mirror in a weird place and the shower not brilliant but still good. Very comfy bed, good TV and tea/coffee facilities with a small fridge that must have been the mini bar at some stage so not too cool. BUT it is in the best position right at the end of Oxford Street, 50 yards from underground, opposite Marble Arch and Hyde Park. Massive choice for breakfast although the breakfast room is not very 4 STAR, more like a hospital canteen. There were “words” at the full English counter as there was a queue for chef who made omelettes and as these were served with the rest of the full English people who didn’t want omelettes just tried to serve themselves breakfast with fried eggs. Might be a good idea to have the omelettes served at a different counter. Lots of other choices too, freshly made pancakes and waffles, Danish pastries croissants etc.
Staff were very nice and nothing too much trouble, would definitely stay there again at the right price, not worth £200+ a night though.

Only coz the company paid for it. Nice comfy bed small boxy and $$. Very close to Oxford st shopping etc. Classy italian restaurant on site. Not as nice as the Hilton similarly priced. The staff do speak English but have that tired of tourists attitude. Anyway, great location but don't drive, take the tube as parking can be expensive.
