“Friendly Service and Great Ales”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2013

I recently visited this pub in order to attend two friends' birthday parties. We were in a private room upstairs and had a buffet so it is difficult to comment fully on the atmosphere of the pub or the menu. However, what I did see when going to the bar to order my drinks was very impressive. There were 4 ales and a large selection of lagers and wines to choose from. The staff also appeared very knowledgeable about the drinks that they stocked and were happy to give recommendations and give you samples. All the ales were served in beer jugs, which was a nice touch. Even though the bar was busy, the staff were very efficient in serving customers quickly. It seemed to be in general a very friendly pub.

Unfortunately I like nowhere near to this pub, if I did I would be very likely to return. I would however recommend a visit to anyone who lives in the area. The function room upstairs was a decent size and makes a good party venue.

If you are planning to visit take a look at their website. There is a voucher to get a free drink!

“Great sunday roast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 29, 2012

A refreshing change from poncey gastropubs trying to make you pay £3 for vegetable sides for your sunday roast. It's not michelin starred cuisine but a hearty roast dinner portion for a fair price. friendly staff and good beer selection. not that it bothered us, but lots of kids around.

“Great beer, great food, great atmosphere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2012

I have been several times and never been disappointed. This is a great mixture of proper pub/gastro pub from an owner who is constantly innovating. The range of beers is good and there are regular beer events. The food is outstanding and I recommend the cumin and thyme marinated chicken. If you love soul music you'll hear some good rare stuff in the background. The atmosphere is cosy and the staff are very attentive.

“Top quality Thai food, great choice of beers, good staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2012

The Thai chicken curry here tastes unique! not a coconut based one, very meaty tasting (possibly peanuts in sauce?), large portions too.
Beers are always good here, currently Diamond Geezer ale is lovely. £3.50 a pint.
Only been here a few times but this place so far is ALL GOOD!

“Great atmosphere and tasty food. Try the Thai”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2012

I ate at the Old Nun’s Head pub before seeing a production in the lovely local cemetery on a Saturday evening. The food was certainly a cut above normal pub food, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. There is a Thai chef, so I recommend the Thai food if you’re in the mood, but the burgers at the neighbouring tables looked amazing. We shared a large platter of Thai starters that included a couple of huge spring rolls, sesame toasts, stuffed and fried wontons, and lots and lots of prawn crackers with two different dips. We also shared the Thai green curry, which was delicious. There is a good selection of beers and wines to be had, and the seating and atmosphere are casual and comfortable. I would love to go back one day and while away the hours playing one of the many board games or sit on a sofa and read from the collection of books in the back of this historic building. This seems hard to beat.
