“well worn but ok”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2013

This hotels certainly not the best, however it is generally cheap and chearful. The staff are generally very helpful and the rooms are clean. The bed had seen better days and you could hear the mattress going ping when I moved. but what do you expect in london at that price.
On occasions Brittania increase the prices at this hotel and when they do it is not the place to go
The breakfast is always very good and good value. However, the evening meal is a bit variable, they offer a carvery in the evening and it is not worth booking in advance. I suggest you wait to see what is on offer as they often have better deals available.

Room Tip: The rooms in the bsement have no windows but they have been refurbished and have better tv's.

My family and myself stayed here for a new years break from 30Dec-2Jan. Having read the reviews we were dreading it and thought it was going to be awful. Having arrived there we were pleasantly surprised. Yes the decor was dated in the bedrooms, but it was kept clean and the staff serviced the rooms and provided fresh towels everyday and there was even little toiletries in the bathroom. As far as I could see the hotel was gradually being updated, in the dining room there were some nice leather look chairs and some chairs that needed updating. The hotel was in a good location close to Camden market and London Zoo both of which we visited. The hotel provided a good new years package. A room was set up nicely with Christmas tablecloths, steamers and crackers and they had hired a DJ who could not do enough for you playing all our requests. However there were not many people there, but this was not the hotel's fault as many people without children were going into town or to Primrose Hill. We found out after we had booked on the net that the party was adults only, but the staff kindly let the children attend as long as they were accompanied by an adult. If the hotel opened the party to families with children the party would be busier as people with children would stay to party as they can not go to pubs and clubs with children. They even did a later breakfast on New Year's Eve for everyone recovering. The staff were friendly and helpful and we would visit again.

We have just had a 3 night stay at The Hampstead Britannia. It's in an ideal location - less than 10 mins walk to the Tube station and has a bus stop outside. Our check-in was quick and efficient.
Bedrooms were dated, but large and clean - plus the beds were very comfy. There was loads of storage; 2 double built in wardrobes, 2 chest of drawers plus a dressing table. The bathroom was adequate. Our sink was very slow to drain and the hot tap was only a trickle. It was reported, but did not get resolved. It took us 10 minutes how to work the shower, but we got there in the end.
The TV was very dated with only 5 channels and no text. On the plus side there was free Wi-Fi. The bar area had limited seating and was freezing. We had a bar meal there which was tasty and very reasonably priced. The breakfast had limited choice, but filled us up for the day. Staff were friendly and helpful.
It's well worth a walk, or short bus or train journey, into Camden for all the Retro shops and market. As the Northern Lane was not in service on our final day, we pre-booked a mini cab from the cab office a couple of doors down from Chalk Farm Tube station. We were collected from reception and arrived at Kings Cross 12 minutes later (Sunday Morning at 9.30am) for £10. We were quite impressed.
We paid £133 for a 3 nights stay, as the hotel had offers on when we booked in early January. We would definitely go back.

We booked this hotel before visiting this site... Thank goodness we did!! We set off feelin very apprehensive after readin the reviews. Surely our weekend away was a mistake judgin by the comments on here. Actually though we were very happily surprised. On arrival we had to clear up a booking error that was our fault. The receptionist didn't bat an eyelid as she changed our room... A room that proved cosy yet spacious and comfortable...and clean! The staff were attentive and helpful, polite and friendly. A request for an iron and board was delivered to the door in minutes. The gripes that the tv is mono, or on too low a table are laughable...do u go away to watch tv??? To sum up... A brilliant stay in a fair priced hotel...we paid under £100 for 2 nights. I'm sure some folk just look for reasons to criticise! We will be going back...

Stayed here in January so my wife and I could do our theatre trip again.

LOCATION
OK, walked to Chalk Farm tube, approx 8 minutes and were in central London within 10 minutes.

Hotel
Breakfast ok. Did their buffet one night but it is no where as good as their hotel in Blackpool but is good value ar £9.95 p.p.
Booked a suite where I got a brill price with Britanniana E-Shots and vouchers from Blackpool.
stays. Total cost £162 for 3 nights B&B which is brill for London.

Downside was the the radiator in the bedroom was broken and they knew this because an electric heater was in our room and this is very dry overnight. Radiator in the sitting room was fine. Light over the mirror in the bathroom was out and had to ask for this to be fixed which they did right away.

Upside was the staff who could not do enough for you.

i went by train so did not notice if there was a car park.

If you get your vouchers and e-shots from Brittania then it is definitely value for money. I stayed in Bayswater in August and with my Best Western Deals, it cost £306 for 4 nights B&B in a double room. Will do that again.

Will I stay in Brittania Hamptead again?
No.

I have stayed at the Novatel at Euston 3 times now on theatre trips and it is expensive but worth every penny

We attended a gig in Kentish Town, and wanted a hotel that wasn't too far away. Was quite a trek from the tube and the printed map wasn't particularly helpful, we did end up getting lost!

Once at the hotel, the outside of it really was very grim, surrounded by lots of grey flats and watery looking windows.
Once inside though it was another story, really beautiful lobby, lovely dining area and helpful staff.
We had to show ourselves up to our rooms, just given a key and told the floor, which fair enough, saves them time, but still slightly off.
The stairs up to the floors were freezing cold, more like flat stairs than a London hotel!
The corridor honestly looked like the hotel from The Shining, very gaudy and outdated but was clean and fine. was a bit of struggle to get the door open, however the room was big, tv a bit small and old, nice and warm room and a lovely bed! Only grievances where the view of flats and watery slightly black sealed windows. was a hair in the bath, but no big deal. Bathroom had lovely soaps and showergels, very clean and tidy. Big fluffy towels.
Food - amazing! Ordered club sandwiches, they were absolutely huge, and delicious! Great value for money.
Will definitely stay here again, as £58 for one night in London is great!
