“good hotel to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2013

Citadine barbican is a good hotel to stay for those who has food allergy problem because it is an
apartment hotel with facilities to heat up simple food bought from nearby tesco express. It has storage and laundry facilities to cater for travellers who wishes to visit other European cities or
other parts of UK. Reception staff friendly and helpful. Just two underground stations from
King Cross/St Pancreas.

Will stay here again in the future. It is like a home away from home.

First stay 16 Sept. Travelling with a baby but reception were great, cot ready in the room, took our bags before I could ask, helped with the parking, really great arrival experience.

Only one night but everything worked fine. Would suggest adjusting the internal door closers to a slower pace, a bit inconvenient - presume it's a fire reg to have them on internal doors? Internet should be plug & play, not this MI6/CIA level of security passwords. At least make the username easy, either defaulting to room number or surname off hotel computer system interface.

Hard getting even a 30 minute late check-out (I was stuck in a meeting), but got it in the end.

Overall great, coming back 2 days later.

Room Tip: Stayed in an apartment type room, excellent value. The Studio Club looks good too. High floors prett...

We often stay in apartment hotels when travelling with our kids. We prefer making our own breakfasts and having access to washing facilities etc. Citadines was okay, but I would choose somewhere else next time - Marlin apartments for example have washing machines in the kitchenette, Citadines just had a shared laundry in the basement.

One thing that drove me particularly mad was the self-closing doors in the apartment. They're all very heavy doors and very dangerous for the fingers of a small child! My best tip if staying here is to take a pocket full of doorstops with you.

Room Tip: Our room was at the back, on the 6th floor, and it was very quiet.

We stayed at the Citadines Barbican on Saturday night as a group of three adults in a one bedroom apartment. When I arrived, I was pleasantly surprised that the one bedroom apartment is actually two studio flats joined by a small hallway. Each flat contained a comfortable double fold-down bed, large desk, wardrobe, kitchen and bathroom. The kitchen was well equipped with hobs, microwave, dishwasher and kettle. There is also a flat screen TV and DVD player.

The location of the apartment was perfect, being a couple minutes walk to Barbican Underground. Our rooms had a view of the Gherkin and although we faced the main road, we didn't notice much noise.

Downsides to the apartments include lack of space to move to the other side of the fold-down bed due to the massive desk in the room and some blackened grout near the bathtub but other than that, it was very clean.

On the whole, the apartment was very good value (cost less than a nearby Travelodge) and it was convenient to have the self catering facilities. I'll definitely consider returning next time I need somewhere to stay in London.

This is the second apart-hotel in the Citadines chain that I have used in London...the other being the facilities at St Mark's a few blocks away. Both of them are conveniently located in Central London and are situated close to the tube stations. In the case of Citadines Barbican, it is just a short 3-4 minutes walk from the underground station after which it is named.

On the whole, this particular outlet had turned out as expected - an indication of the reliability of the Citadines brand; the lobby was clean and functional, check-in was smooth. A particularly nice gesture on Citadines' part was to provide a rather fancy coffee machine and free coffees in the rest area.

I had requested for a double bed and was given a single bedroom unit with adjoining toilet and foyer. Do make sure you indicate this in your booking before hand...The room was slightly smaller than I had expected though and as some of the other reviewers would have indicated, it comes with a space-saving foldable bed. Fortunately, the mattress itself turned out to be quite comfortable and sleep quality was actually rather good as the hotel had made an effort to soundproof the windows despite overlooking the Goswell Road thoroughfare.

A full set of kitchen amenities is provided - including a combo microwave/grill oven, utensils and chinaware, which makes cooking a cinch. We basically prepared our own breakfasts - and the occasional dinners - over our 1 week stay which certainly helped to cut down expenses. Eating out in London is still a generally expensive option! Apparently the hotel provides daily breakfast at £12 per person...a bit steep it seems, although we can't vouch for the quality of the spread. Anyway, a Tesco Express is located just before the tube entrance, which is great for stocking up supplies and stuff. Included in the kitchenette is a dishwasher which we never got to learn how to use. We would have been happier if they had provided a washing machine/dryer combo instead as in St Marks. The Barbican hotel does however have a laundromat - chargeable (£5 for washing and £3 for drying?) - in the basement. It would also have been great if they also had a fitness corner as in Citadines St Mark's.

So, on the whole, a good experience and would recommend it to those who are looking for a no-frills stay in Central London. The Barbican concert hall is located at its doorsteps, while St Paul's and Tate Modern are all within walking distance. Would consider it again for my next trip...but a fitness corner with a threadmill and some free weights would definitely help to clinch the deal! Calling Citadines...are you there...?

Tiny, no air conditioning (agent said there was), a few broken or worn things, all the stuff you need, front desk communication inconsistent (but friendly mistakes), sofa bed comfy enough. Great quiet location, the back rooms loud only when students in building behind out late smoking and yelling or garbage pick up, good water pressure.

We recently booked a double occupancy studio apartment and it was not a pleasant experience. As a couple we were provided with a single sofa and a roller bed, which was to be our accommodation for the next 8 nights.
I spoke wit one of the afternoon staff, a female staff member and asked for a double bed where it was explained to me that the if I wanted a double bed then I needed to put this on the booking request.
I asked for a different room and I stated that if it costs more that I was prepared to pay this and again it was stated that there were no rooms spare and that this is what happens when you come during holiday times.
I returned later that night and saw a different staff member, named Adela, who agreed that after 2 nights the room could be changed for the remainder of the stay.
We found the room to be not suitable, there was a high level of noise and we were on a rear facing room, and the rooms were very stuffy. The. Room does not have air conditioning, only air cooling.
The images on the website were misleading and showed a bed in one photo and a lounge area in another photo. Beware as e couch is a sofa and that is your bed and it was as hard as a board.
We actually went away for 2 nights to another location where we were able to get 2 nights of sleep on a real bed which was very much needed.
This hotel is not on our to go back to list.
Continental breakfast was £12 person and car parking was £25 per day (both were excessive and not acceptable).

Room Tip: Always request a double bed and you will need to ask for a 1 bedroom apartment to get a real bed.

Thank you for your feedback.
We read with much concern about the unpleasant experience you encountered during your previous stay with us.
I would like to assure you that I have personally addressed this issue with the staff concerned and will ensure that they receive the necessary guidance to perform a much better role moving forward to avoid a recurrence of this incident.
Moreover, I'm happy to inform you that all our sofa bed will be replaced by proper bed by the end of the year, all our guest will be able to have the comfort of a double bed in all our room types.

Once again, we apologize that we were unable to make you feel more at home and comfortable. I hope that you will reconsider staying with us giving us another opportunity to serve you better.
Sincerely,
