“Another Cat Swingers Nightmare”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2013

So, the reception area and welcome sets expectations in any hotel. The Kensington Close gives all the impression that the rooms will be spacious and welcoming. Checkin staff are very nice and there is even a doorman...

However things change once checkin is complete. Breakfast is £15, Internet (24hrs) is £9.95, aircon in my room didn't work (too hot), plug in sink didn't plug, bathroom in a cupboard, shower didnt drain, no ironing board or iron and the room is just big enough for a double bed with room to walk round it.

On the plus point the wobbly fittings do have four sockets close to the bed. Not a lot of places have that these days. The room was also very clean and apart from the bathroom the condition was excellent (and there were loads of sockets).

Now I know this is London and what do you expect and I agree to a certain extent. But charging a tenner for internet access is simply profiteering in this day and age.

I won't be back. I'll get my coat.

Chris

We stayed at the hotel for 4 nights. Our group comprised of 3 adults and one child. When we checked in, we were offered an upgrade , which I declined, hoping that our rooms were going to be adequate as I had read the reviews. Although, I booked the 2 rooms at the same time, they were on the same floor (level 7), but slightly apart. We arrived an hour early, and I was aware that we might be charged for the storage of the luggage, but we were not. The rooms were fine, and kept clean throughout our stay. Whilst, we stayed in London, it snowed! Our rooms were lovely and warm, there was a choice of a shower or bed and the beds were very comfy.

We were aware of the charges in advance, so we did not have b/fast at the hotel, and organised our personal WI FI hotspot. Not far from the hotel we found the Muffin Man cafe, which provides good quality food at reasonable prices. It was also very useful to have nearby the following:-

1.Whole foods store (which sells food and stalls that sells different types of food e.g. sushi; pizza; vegan etc.)
2. Wagamama - hearty meals for 4 for less than £35.00 for the group
3. Museums within walking distance
4. Tube station
5. The Prince of Wales (which sells real ale)

The hotel service was pleasant; helpful and efficient, and my young son, was made to feel welcome.

This hotel is really well placed if you are visiting the Kensington area
My husband had arrange a surprise room upgrade but I wouldn't bother doing it again as all you got was foot of floor space.
The Room was clean, comfortable and the bathroom was very nice.
Drinks were expensive at the hotel £9 for a G&T and 15% service charge
The Royal Albert Hall is £7 in a taxi from the hotel, Kensington High Street had fantastic bars/restaurants.
I would return if I was visiting the Kensington area again.

Breakfasts were good. Staff were good. The location of the hotel was good and within easy walking distance of the underground station. However I don't think that we have ever stayed in a smaller room since our student days. There was just shuffling room around the bed ! . In addition , it is also very mean to charge guests for use of the leisure facilities .

I have stayed at this hotel twice now: the first time it was fantastic - the room was great; however on my second visit my bedroom had no heating and was absolutely freezing. Reception did provide an electric heater but the room was still cold. The sheets had holes in and the bedside light didn't work.

I am booked to stay again this week and hope my experience is closer to my first stay than my second!

Hotel is literally 2-300 metres from High street Kensington tube station, so it is very easy accessed from Heathrow, Lovely hotel and great service and friendly staff, great breakfast every morning, rooms cleaned every day, Only small thing id say is that standard room was slightly small but not tiny, and £10 a day for wifi is ridiculous, but that was the only complaints, if i was going back to london i would definitly go back to this hotel, very clean hotel and just off main street with loads of shops and resteraunts

Room Tip: they had an offer on when we arrived for £20 a night to be upgraded to a bigger room. if you think y...

We were looking for somewhere cheap and in a good location for my friends birthday and this hotel ticked all the boxes. Really happy with the room, food, location and price. It's ideally located near to Kensington High street and tube station, shops and restaurants nearby and The Royal Albert Hall within walking distance.
