“Great location near underground station and hyde park. Lovely Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2013 via mobile

great staff and lovely Hotel in a location that is both near city centre and also very peaceful. Lovely pub next to it where i had breakfast.
It is literally next to undergroundstation so it doesn't take long to the city. Price was ok for this quality hotel

Although described as a 4 star hotel this hotel falls way below the standard I would expect. It is very drab and dated. My husband and I stayed here this weekend for a last minute trip to London. The welcome we received was nice and friendly, we had not paid for breakfast and were asked if we wanted breakfast, we said we may depending so were given vouchers for a percentage off the breakfast, 4 vouchers for breakfast for 2.

We went up to our room..it was clean. It was tiny, so small, the bed was flat against the window and flat against the wall so you could only get out on the right. Because the bed was directly under the window no curtains, shutters. No wardrobe just a rail. The bathroom sink was so small washing in it would be a challenge . The whole room was white, no picture. It bore more resemblance to a prison cell than a hotel room, talk about claustrophobic.

I rang reception and complained and asked to be moved. Initially I was told there was nowhere to move us but then another room was found . It was still small but had a wardrobe curtains and you could get out either side of the bed.

The foyer stunk of cigarettes every time we went down as they allowed the doors open with people smoking heavily the other side, revolting stench.
Our air conditioning broke on the second night which made the room really hot...horrid. We also asked for some milk for our tea on Saturday night...I'm still waiting for that!
However the bed was very comfortable.

We never did get down for breakfast so handed the vouchers back on checkout to be told they were charged to our room and non refundable! We were expected to pay for 4 bits of paper which we had handed back in. After a LOT of arguing they finally waived the charge!
I would not recommend this hotel to none there are many better hotels for a cheaper price.

Room Tip: Refuse 9th floor!

A 2 night stay in a Viceroy room. The very effective air con was appreciated during the hot weather! All very good again and was pleased to note the recent (?) addition of a bottle of water (replaced each day) and a little box of chocolates. Slight niggles were the biscuits not being replaced on day 2, there was a stain (blood?) on the mattress topper which was visible through the sheet on the bed but this was only unpleasant to see rather than a major issue as the sheet (and all other linen) was spotlessly clean and the shower took quite a lot of time and effort to turn off.

We booked afternoon tea here. Extremely dissatisfied with the food, lack of service, sandwich and cakes were dry , the scones rock hard with the odd hair. No wonder we were the only ones there. Would not recommend !!

I stayed on 13 August for one night in a double room. The hotel lobby and restaurant gives a good impression and the pianist playing in the evening is a nice touch. It is located just a couple of hundred feet from Lancaster Gate Tube so is very convenient for Central London and adjacent to Hyde Park which is good for a wander or a jog. In my opinion, nice to stay somewhere reasonably central next to a park with minimal road noise than somewhere right in the city.

The room I stayed in was pretty small, although it was a double, it was only really comfortable for one person. Free wifi is a bonus but it is pretty slow. Therefore I'd recommend for business but not for leisure if you like space and comfort.

There are a few restaurants nearby but nothing to write home about from what I could see on Trip Advisor. I ate near Paddington at a very simple Italian restaurant which was good, but it doesn't seem to have the kind of choice you get in other parts of London.

Room Tip: Seemed ok on the 9th floor where I was, not too much traffic noise and not too close to the lifts

The location of this Hotel is great and is literally opposite Hyde Park which is an amazing place to visit, especially when any concerts on there also very near to tube, coach and train stations. The Hotel lobby looks quite promising and is clean light and contemporary but the rooms themselves are disappointing. Tiny room with poor plumbing system in the bathroom with evidence of prior flooding. No wardrobe and only very small area to hang clothes. Room was rear facing with no views. To summarise great location average hotel.
