“Just an average hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2010

Stayed at the Hilton London Hyde Park Hotel for 1 night in mid February. The Hotel was the third hotel which I stayed in during my week long London trip, and it was the worst.

The Queensway Station of the Central Line is right on the doorstep (Tottenham Court Road, Oxford Circus and Bond Street stations are also on the Central Line). If you are travelling to and fro Paddington Station, you can use the Bayswater Station, which is only about 100 metres from the Hotel and one stop away from Paddington Station. So the Hotel is convenient for those going to the shopping/entertainment districts or the Heathrow Airport. However, the Queensway Station is an old station where there is no escalator. Passengers will have to wait for the lift or use the 120+ steps staircase.

I arrived the Hotel at about 1:00p.m. The lobby is small and cramped which made me wonder how they are going to cope with a large group of guests. Anyway, the staff at the reception was warm and helpful and the checking in was efficient. After checking in I was informed that the room was not ready. That was not a problem and I appreciate that the concierge took the initiative to take my bags to the storeroom.

The guest room on the 3rd floor is small, it is similar to an ordinary guest room in a Japanese hotel. The size of the shower cubicle is on par with one in an ordinary European hotel but is much smaller than the one in a boutique hotel which I stayed in earlier during my London trip. Since the guest room is compact, one will have to pay more care when using the kettle for boiling water.

The exhaust fan in the bathroom, when switched on, made a lot of noice. This, coupled with the fact that the guests in the adjacent rooms were talking loudly late at night, made it difficult for me to sleep well. I was glad that I was staying at the Hotel for 1 night only.

I learned from previous reviews that the Hotel's restaurant is rather small, I therefore decided not to include breakfast when making the reservation so as to avoid the possible crowd. Eventually I have my breakfast in a McDonald's at Queensway (there are plenty of eateries at Queensway, most of them are Chinese restaurants). But when checking out the Hotel purported to charge me for a breakfast. I told the reception staff that I stayed alone, I knew no one in London and that I did not have the breakfast at the Hotel (either the restaurant staff had made a mistake or that someone had use my room number to register for the breakfast). The reception staff repeatedly asked whether it was possible that my room mate or colleague had had the breakfast. Although I understand that the reception staff was only doing her duty and the Hotel eventually did not charge me for the alleged breakfast, it was still an annoying experience. (Would someone suddenly recall that he/she did have a room mate or colleague staying in the same hotel after being asked repeatedly?)

I am sure the electronic room key card can store various data. Perhaps hotels worldwide shall consider whether the card can be used by guests not merely as a mean to open the door but as a form of identification document when using the hotel's services.

The best part of this hotel is the staff. They are very warm and welcoming, they always try to do their best.

I have stayed in this hotel extensively on business. Great, small hotel overall. Right across from hyde park. The Queensway Station on the Central line is basically below the hotel. Very convenient for getting around London. The neighborhood is lively and always busy. Restaurants in the neighborhood tend to be average - they obviously do not have to work too hard to get business since they neighborhood is busy.

Hotel is fairly small. It is an old London hotel, many of the rooms are quite small. The Double Deluxe rooms are remodeled and nicer.

Bathrooms definitely need an upgrade.

small hotel compared to some Hiltons but the location opposite Hyde Park and next to two tubes (Queensway and Bayswater) was perfect. The breakfast buffet was superb in a very nice dining room. We were on the half price deal which was unbelievable value so shop around for prices. The noise even though we were overlooking the park was minimal. Found a good lively pub around the corner at night after we,d been to The Albert Hall so all in all a great stay.

Booked the Hilton Hyde Park as part of the recent Hilton 50% sale, so got a great rate including breakfast.

Only stayed one night, attending the Depeche Mode gig at the Royal Albert Hall, so wanted a nice easy trip without any hassles.

Location wise, it's excellent, adjacent Queensway tube station on the circle line. A 20min walk through Kensington Gardens to the Royal Albert Hall, 30 mins to Knightsbridge.

Check in was fast, with a friendly welcome from the staff. We were allocated a room on the 2nd floor, but when we got to the room, it was still being cleaned. Wasnt a problem, but we went back to check in desk who were very apologetic and gave us an upgrade to a deluxe overlooking Hyde Park. Room was great, bright and spotlessly clean. Bathroom was looking a little tired [handles and fittings only] but overall we were very happy.

Breakfast is varied and typical of 4-5* hotels, full cold and hot offerings, with eggs and pancakes etc to order. The hotel has Costa Coffee bar so a range of hot drinks offered at breakfast. Again the waiters are happy, courteous and helpful.

All in all a great stay, albeit a flying visit. Depeche Mode were amazing by the way ;)

Have stayed here a few times on business in the past few months. It's typical of the older Hilton's in London in that it's crying out for some investment. My last room was a decent size and clean enough, but still had the coat hook just about clinging to the back of the door and the usual mismatch of bathroom fixtures (why install a trendy new Grohe tap but then leave the rest of the fittings as they were??). Staff have always been pretty good and room service food is generally ok (although £4.50 for a bottle of water !!). Location wise it is right above Queensway tube station which is on the Central Line. It's not in the middle of things, but it's a short tube ride away from the West End. The price seems to fluctuate significantly week by week on the Hilton website, so timing seems to be everything. Good enough to keep me coming back

This is a delightfully small hotel for a Hilton, which imparts a very cozy feel. The staff is friendly, service and food outstanding, and the location unbeatable.

We thought this hotel was a fantastic value. We got a amazing rate of about 50 pounds and could not have been happier.

At check-in they were just overly welcoming and friendly, it was actually odd cause usually people are just not that enthusiastic. The location of the hotel is perfect as its located right beside a tube stop. So you are basically just a 5-10 min ride away from all of the attractions in London. The hotel was also very quiet, it's across from Hyde park so that probably helped.

The only real negative I can think of is the elevator was slow. But it was not that big an issue. Yes the room was not that large but that's typical in London so we thought it was just right, it always seems to be a shock to American's though who don't understand this. I see people complaining about the breakfast, we did not have it, as yes it was way too expensive, but you have options, there was a place right by the hotel serving breakfast for just 6 pounds. There were numerous stores and places to eat around. Generally speaking breakfast at any hotel is going to be a rip off so it pays to leave the hotel and just look around.

Anyways overall we were extremely satisfied and if ever in London again we would of course consider staying here again.
