“Looking Young, Treated Wrong”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2013

I booked a room for two nights for what was my girlfriend's first ever visit to London at the beginning of May. I'd heard and more importantly read great things about the DoubleTree and I was excited (perhaps a little too excited!) about the cookies we were to be given on arrival. Alas the gentleman who checked us in at the front desk looked like we'd somehow offended his very honour by daring to try and check in at the DoubleTree and we were given our rooms with almost no interaction or pleasantries exchanged from the guy in question. But the most disappointing thing? No cookies...that played on my mind all weekend and i'm pretty sure that the fact we looked like a young couple had a lot to do with how we were treated. We get up to our room and we realise we're placed next to a staff storage closet. Cue a lot of unwanted noise and disturbance over the course of the weekend.
The location of the tv and size meant that the little things, like cosying up and cuddling in bed at night, while watching a good movie after a days adventure and exploring just didnt quite hit the sweet spot. All in all, for the price paid (nearly three hundred pounds for two nights) this hotel didnt quite have the 'oomph' i was expecting...it didnt 'knock my socks off' it was merely just another hotel. I think some of it had a lot to do with looking young or maybe the receptionist was just having a bad day. I guess overall the biggest disappointment?...i didnt get to taste the famous DoubleTree cookies. I want my cookie!!

The hotel looks great, had some phone discussion with Guest Services earlier in the day, couldn't have been more helpful. However, upon arriving, the room which was booked as a triple, with single beds as show in the lovely photo was just one double bed. Took an absolute age for the hotel to deal with this and even then, they still didn't provide the three beds so one of us ended up on a folding bed, not what we paid for. Wrote in to complain and the hotel didn't even have the courtesy to respond.

Room Tip: It doesn't matter what you book, they will ignore it anyway

We have just spent the weekend at this hotel and can't really fault it, we had a corner suite which looked out over Tower Bridge, The suite was lovely and clean, the bed was comfortable and even my daughter had a good nights sleep on the roll out bed. We weren't affected by any noise from the street or from inside the hotel. All the staff were very approachable and friendly and we were blown away by the views from the sky lounge. The breakfast was good - lots of choice, although I'm glad we went down early as a queue had started to form by about 8.45am. Great location for getting around the city, the river bus stops at Tower Millenium pier which is a just few minutes walk from the hotel and is a good way of getting around if you don't like the tube. Would certainly stay again.

We just left this hotel after a 5 night stay. Honestly one of the nicest Hilton properties we've been at. Our room was spotless and bed was comfy (the pillows were rock hard but we're finding that throughout the UK.) The staff was courteous and helpful.

We had breakfast every morning on the property at the City Cafe. What a fabulous staff of servers they have. We were greeting every morning with a big welcoming smile and a happy "Good Morning". They all genuinely seemed happy to see us. Since I must eat gluten free, they happily served me gluten free toast every morning along with eggs. My husband ate from the breakfast buffet and was very pleased with the quality and selection of food. The coffee was hot and good.

We visitied the Sky Lounge one evening. Great view of the city. Drinks are pricey and the music is loud. It's worth the ride up to the 12th floor if to do nothing else but check out the view.

The location of the hotel was great for us as well. Right on top of the Tower of London and The Tower Bridge (save your money, see my review for that) and a convinent place to catch the hop on hop off bus tour.

Yep, we'd stay here again!

This is a very nice and modern hotel and hence hotel. It only opened a couple of years ago and hence all is clean and very nicely made. I like the Apple Computer in the rooms that can be used for internet surfing or TV etc. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Location is excellent for the city and located near the Tower Hill tube station. Can only recommend this hotel

3 night stay at Hotel the day after our wedding prior to our honeymoon 2 months later. At check in upgraded to a Kings Suite thanks to Hilton Honours, reception staff knew it was our mini moon and congratulated us both on arrival. KIng's Suite was fantastic, bedroom, bathroom, separate toilet/washroom, large lounge dining area with huge Apple Mac TV and 2 mega comfy modern rocking chairs, free mini bar and snacks. Great choice of food at breakfast with something available to suit all diets, good on site eating choices for snacks or meals, Sky lounge offers wine and cocktails in a unique environment looking out over London excellent. Good location at Tower Bridge, tube station 5 minutes walk from hotel, would definitely stay here again on our next trip to London. Hotel provided a bottle of wine, chocolates and a card on our 2nd night which was a very nice touch, thanks to all who made our trip special.

Room Tip: Hilton honours membership benefits with room upgrade when available
