We stayed two nights as part of a wedding party group of 50. The location is excellent and we upgraded to an executive room (1037) with great views of the Tower of London and Tower Bridge. Staff on Reception, especially Romina, were excellent and the lobby/lounge area is spacious, bright and modern - very much our preference. Facilities in the room were good as, with the upgrade, you had complimentary breakfast, newspapers and minibar (which was generally well stocked with various drinks, alcoholic and otherwise and nibbles). Given the increase in price, it was actually, relatively, good value.
We always went down to breakfast early - good too, because others who went down to breakfast at 'normal' times had to queue and the queues were sometimes more than 40 people. The range of choice at breakfast was good but queuing was a problem especially at the hot counter - basically, the hotel needs either a larger breakfast room or another one. When the hotel is full it really is a problem at breakfast. The food on offer was variable in quality - porridge was cold and lumpy, poached eggs had no taste and the scrambled egg was lukewarm and rubbery. That said, there was a good choice of cereals, pastries, breads, fruit and fruit juice (not the watered down variety you sometimes get elsewhere). Good coffee, not the usual stewed stuff. The breakfast staff were very attentive and helpful.
The Sky Lounge is really good - views of London at night are pretty spectacular but you pay for it in the price - £10 for a glass of wine! We did not try the cocktails and shots though plenty of the wedding party did - we'd hate to see their bills at the end of the evening. Four members of the family checked it out a few weeks before the wedding and their bar bill was over £400.
After reserving the room some months before, our credit card was fraudulently used at a sister hotel in Amsterdam (we've never been to Amsterdam let alone the Mint Hotel there). Nearly £800 of charges were fraudulently made. We brought this to the attention of the duty manager at this hotel and Christian promised a thorough investigation which, to be fair, he did and the hotel's finance controller did make contact with his counterpart in Amsterdam but no-one would accept responsibility and we received the usual apology but 'there's nothing we can do about it'. No offer was made of free nights or extra HiltonHonour points for the hassle, worry or disruption due to having cards cancelled, etc.
This hotel has several qualities but there are important areas that need attention especially breakfast time, drinks prices and credit card security. We'd stay again but would probably deal in cash.
We were in 1037 - prime position for great views at day and night
