“Lovely hotel in a great location!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 18, 2013 via mobile

Visited London for a weekend a few weeks ago, and I really can't see what people are complaining about! We paid £200 for 2 people, over a weekend, including a continental breakfast. Upon arrival the staff were lovely, opening doors, calling lifts etc. when getting to our room we found it was a family room and had a double bed and 2 singles. It was so clean and the bathroom was amazing with cleaners replenishing all shampoos, conditioners, soaps etc everyday. I have to say we booked through the hotel website itself and not through lastminute.com type of sites. But please give this hotel a chance as it is a wonderful location and I truly have nothing to complain about!

This hotel is in the perfect location. Although in central London, you certainly couldn't tell, as the area was quiet and not busy, even on NYE. The staff were friendly and went out of their way to help us; upgrading our room free of charge and allowing us to leave our luggage with them on the day we checked out, which enabled us to continue sight seeing. Close to Gloucester Road tube station, super markets and restaurants.

Highly recommend.

After booking this hotel as a mystery hotel on last minute, we was unsure of the quality of the hotel. First impressions, very tastefully decorated, not modern but clean, warm and welcoming with members of staff greeting on entrance. Reception staff also pleasant, and helpful without bombarding with information.

First impressions of the room, massive! We must of had a family room as we was given a room with 1 double bed, and 2 singles just for the 2 of us. Very modern, spacious, clean and comfortable room with all the necessary facilities including tea & coffee making facilities, lots of toiletries, magazines and a newspaper. Bathroom was small, but lovely and modern, with a fantastic power shower. The beds were super comfy which is always nice, and the rooms were very nicely decorated - I got the impression that it had recently been renovated?

We did not have breakfast due to an early start in the morning so cannot comment.

Location was great, less than 5 minutes walk from Gloucester Road station.

All in all, my only complaint would be that due to checking in late, and checking out early, we didn't get enough time in the hotel. For the price we paid, and the quality we received, I was stay in this hotel again for sure!

The attarctive facade and excellent location of the Grange Strathmore belies the problems within.

When we arrived we asked for the afternoon tea and were told that there were teabags in the room. We'd brought guests so when I pushed the point we were told that they required pre-booking or at the least a few hours' notice. Not a good omen.

When we got to our room it was tiny and there were twin beds as opposed to a double. Having pushed the beds together we called reception for a double duvet to be told that this wasn't possible but might be the next day.

The next day we asked whether there were any larger rooms and we were moved to a slightly larger room (although the door barely opened, hitting the minute storage wardrobe every time we came in or out). Again we asked for a double duvet and this time were told that we couldn't push the beds together for health & safety reasons(!!). When I said that I would take full responsibility for any risks (whatever these might be) and asked for a double duvet again I was told that this would be organised but it never was.

Further to this the TV didn't work properly (some channels only had audio, some had neither audio nor visuals) and we had to call reception for our teabags to be restocked. Not very 4 star.

Perhaps the only good things about the hotel, apart from the attractiveness of the building and the excellent location in Kensington, were the concierges, who were always polite, and a junior/trainee receptionist who was by far the best of the desk staff. Unfortunately I don't recall her name.

Unless you are desparate to stay in this area and can't find anywhere else, I would steer clear of the Grange Strathmore.

This was the third time we've stayed and I'm not sure we'd come back. Our first two stays were excellent - wonderful room and very comfortable. However, the hotel has undergone considerable renovations and although it looks nice, the room we stayed in was ridiculously small, and the most uncomfortable bed i've experienced in a hotel; my husband has a bad back and was in considerable pain after two nights. That said, it still has very friendly staff and is located in a great area (very close to museums, tube station, laundromat, etc).

unfortunately stayed here november for the world travel mart show for 5 nights. i have traveled extensively and it is simply by far the smallest room i have ever stayed in my life. it had a single bed and when i opened my two suitcases, i could no longer move inside the room. seriously. and the shower, don't think of ever dropping the bar of soap as you would have to open the shower door to step out and pick it up. it's that tiny. and i am not a 300 plus lb person, but an average 5foot 8inch asian. it is insane to be paying more than 100pounds a night even if it is on high/peak season. the rooms originally represented quaint old english rooms but now it is just a tired old hotel room that needs to be refurbished and / or expanded. as the other reviews said, the only thing going for this hotel is the location in gloucester. and the wonderful filipino staff who made all effort in compensating for all the hotels short-comings.

Room Tip: do not think of getting a single room in this hotel or a ROOM higher than the 2nd floor. the elevato...
