“Don't Go”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2011

We booked 2 double rooms, were allocated one on the 4th & one on the 5th floors & the lift was broken. (over 70 steps to the 4th, over 90 to the 5th). When we arrived, they required photo ID for all guests, we had only travelled from Wiltshire! Luckily we had driving licenses & various membership cards between the 4 of us, as the desk clerk was adamant we had to have!
Both rooms were dirty, we had to ask for the very stained bed cover to be changed in one of the rooms. Both bathrooms had broken toilet seats, balanced in place. The walls were damp & stained. The beds were old, stained matresses & broken springs - not at all comfortable. No toiletries in the bathroom, except a postage stamp size piece of soap & half a toilet roll! No hair dryer either. The continental breakfast was a joke- in a small basement dining room with limited seating, breakfast was laid out in all four corners of the room - making it a bit of an obstacle course to get a slice of toast, coffee and a third of a slice of processed cheese, their idea of portion control! The towels were clean & the water hot. I would not recommend this place to anyone - it should be condemned!

Room Tip: Book a different hotel!

My wife and I booked the Prince Edward Hotel online a few days before arriving in London. We wanted to stay in Paddington, so we came across hundreds of hotels and this one popped up and looked to be very good in the photos. The price was about 40 Australian dollars more than want we anticipated paying but we thought what the hell it is only for 3 nights and yeah the hotel looks great in the photos.
The reception was run by a pair of Indians who tried very hard but I just don't think they had a lot of experience in hospitality. We arrived a bit early and they allowed us to put the bags in the storage room which was great and we headed off for a walk and to exchange some money. The first impression was quite O.K it was neat and tidy and had plenty of brochures on the tourist activities.
We checked in at 3pm, they gave us the key and headed up the stairs to room 25. The stairs are narrow and very steep not recommended to anyone a bit older than us as they are dangerous. We unlocked our door to find an extremely small room, clearly an old cupboard they decided to place a double bed in and install a toilet and shower. Seriously it was so small and literally it was only suited to 1 person. We had to work as a team if one of us wanted to go to the bathroom as one had to be at the end of the bed to allow enough room to get past.
The room at only a bed cupboard chair and bathroom. Everything was so small. The bathroom is very outdated and needs a revamp. The toilet is tiny and paint is peeling off around the seat, there was also several large cracks on the roof and you were unable to open any windows to get fresh air. The only air circulating option is a tiny fan that was noisier than the buses and cars that were driving past.
The staff were atrocious we asked to book a day trip to Stone Henge as we were very keen to check it out. On the brochure it says to book through your hotel reception. Our main man in the reception had no idea and eventually called us and said the early tour is full and the afternoon tour is not operating which is not true. We gave up. Also on checkout the receptionist checked us out and said have a good day. I said how about my deposit, and he said oh ok and asked for the receipt. I thought this was poor, as he was clearly trying to get me out of there so he could keep the deposit.
Do not recommend this hotel as it is terrible. The breakfast is poor, we found mouldy bread in the bread bin and there was no water so we were stuck to drink very sweat orange juice.
Simply we will not recommend this hotel to family or friends and honestly would not allow our little dog to stay there.

Room Tip: yeah do not stay here

Buyer beware! Please listen to the majority of reviews, which correctly describe the appalling standard of this "hotel". We booked this hotel to allow us to spend an extra couple of days in london. Upon checking in, we had to climb 8 flights of grubby stairs, to scour the maze of rooms, unaided to reach our cell. Unable to find floorspace once our small bags were in the room, we sought refuge on the very small, terribly uncomfortable and dirty trundle bed. Nothing in this room looks to have ever been washed or repaired, the curtains are broken, allowing neighbors to look straight in, the drains in the shower/ basin are blocked and we would be better off sleeping on the floor than the threadbare mattress, through which every spring protrudes. We found the general attitude of the staff unhelpful, after mentioning our mattress issue we were told to ask the morning after (our sleepless night). In the morning we were given the key to another "better" room, which hadn't been serviced, to discover the same problems.

The location of this hotel is definitely NOT an excuse for the rates being this high. ANY hotel/ hostel/ under bridge accommodation will be vastly superior. If you can't get any accommodation in London for the weekend and this is your only option... Stay in Paris, or bring a bed, blankets, curtains, drain-o and bleach with you.

Me and my 2 friends had read some of the reviews of this hotel before we arrived and were expecting a dank, dirty, noisy hotel with tiny rooms and unpleasant staff. However we were pleasantly surprised. The staff were friendly and our room was a perfectly adequate size, enough room for the luggage of 3 teenage girls. Admittedly the hotel was quite old, but it was clean, towels were changed and beds made every day and the bathroom was small but clean. Our room consisted of a double bed and a camp bed, which my friend said was comfier than her own bed at home. The 2 major problems were the heat, as the room did get hot at night and although a fan was provided it was still stifling, and the fact that the lift was broken, and we were on the top (5th) floor. However, we only paid £30 each a night, and so I would say we got our money's worth. I would recommend this hotel for young people; it is a good base for visiting the city as it is close to the centre and tube/bus stops, as long as you aren't expecting too much from a very cheap and cheerful hotel.

Do not stay in this hotel even if you're on a tight budget. The rooms are very old, almost crumbling and dirty. There is no isolation, so you can hear everything happening in the corridors. On the first night we were put in a basement room that was next to an Indian restaurant. It was so old and dirty and the air was hot and stinky, but we couldn't even air it. When we changed rooms we were put on the third floor and the room was lighter, but was still very old and dirty and the shower hardly worked. This hotel is below acceptable standards even in comparisson with hostels. It needs major renovation and cleaning.

I was taking my daughter on vacation her to show her what her Dad and I did 10 years ago when we came. I wanted to stay in the same places so we did.

The location is close to the underground and near all the attractions.

We needed a double for 3 of the nights and then a triple for 2 of the nights. We had to pay for a triple for all 5 nights because they were "booked." The triple was a double with a third twin bed put in it. Which made three of the four walls covered with bed and they all touched so it was pretty much wall to wall bed other than a narrow walkway from the door to the window. The mattress have to be the same wore out mattress that they had on the beds 10 years ago. It was so warm I slept on top of the covers and had put an extra blanket on top of the mattress. The air temp was very uncomfortable due to the time of year and NO AC. We had a very small fan.

The staff was very kind.

The breakfast was corn flakes, white or brown toast, Coffee, tea, milk, cheese, butter and jam.

I will not be staying at this Hotel again.
