“Nice Hotel in a Good Location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2014

We tried to book a different hotel, but they were full and recommended we contact Mitre House. I'm glad we took that recommendation instead of searching for another place on our own. We are a family of 5, so we had 2 rooms - 1 with a double and a single bed and 1 with a double bed, we shared a toilet and shower (there were sinks in each individual room). While the hotel is a bit dated, floors squeaked, and you could hear other guests in the hallway - we still had a lovely stay. The rooms were clean. The windows didn't stay up, as often is an issue in older homes, but were easily propped open with a book. The rooms were a bit cramped, as we were in Europe for 2 weeks and we had 7 decent sized suitcases to fit into the rooms. We made it work and put some overflow into the walkway between the one room and the toilet/shower area. It wasn't horrible though as we were there to tour and explore, not sit in our rooms. The shower water was always hot and no issues with the toilet flushing (as we'd had issues in past hotels on our stay, this was exciting for us). The breakfast was always hot and good food. Enjoyed being able to ask for more or variations without trouble. The staff was nice, although most had some difficulty understanding us (English didn't seem to be a first language for many of them). Although maybe a bit of a hassle, I did like that they require the room keys to be turned in before leaving the building - adds a level of security; as well as you have to be "buzzed" in, even to the lobby. Helped to assure me that no random person was just coming into the place. One minor complaint, they were painting the walls in the stair case while we were there. There was no ventilation so the fumes stuck around all day and seeped into the rooms (where we had the window open, so we didn't have too much trouble plus we were gone all day).

Location was good for the different areas we were looking to explore on this trip. Overall, the place was really good. Not sure if we'll stay there next time as we're hoping to explore a different area of London, but definitely will recommend it to friend who are looking at that area.

Nice people working there both at the reception and in the restaurant! We felt that it was a safe place, the main door was locked all time. Room too small, we had to moove the beds to place our suitcases, but the family of four, who went together with us got enough sp in their room. Breakfast was good, we could choose from diff menues. We will stay there when we go back to London.

We are two girls that stayed seven nights at the Mitre House B&B. The room we stayed in was small and quaint - but perfect for two. The bed was clean and comfy with a private bathroom, Wi-Fi, TV, hair dryer, closet, and delicious tea. It was just enough! However, the floors did creaked much. The front desk staff were both friendly and helpful. We appreciate our housekeeper very much. Our room was always clean and presentable when we returned for the day. The hotel is a great location. Only a couple mins walk to the Paddington station and another couple mins walk to Hyde Park. Very close to many restaurants. We felt safe walking back very late. Overall, it is a great location and we had a good experience with this bed and breakfast. I will stay here again. It was home away from home.

Room Tip: Our room was located downstairs first door to the right.

I would just like to say I had a very comforting and helpful stay here.
It was my first stop on my four month tour through Europe from Australia and I felt very welcome.
Clean and tidy, warm and cosy, very close to main sights and easy direction to public transport.
Free WiFi was impeccable.
Friendly service and staff.
Very much recommended.

Stayed 4 nights. Room & bathroom very small with very little sitting area but absolutely spotless. Comfortable beds. Desk staff all very polite, friendly and quite helpful to us. Always felt safe & secure. Location is great. Many nice restaurants, food marts & souvenier shops around the corner. Plumbing all worked well with lots of hot water. We blew a fuse using a hair curler. Staff fixed it in 2 minutes.

Well, first check in was good then we we're sent on a maze of corridors and stairs to our room. The room was small and very dated with creaking floors like a horror movie. The shower leaked onto the bathroom floor. The maids could walk in without knocking (and have a look through your make up bag). The night staff... Well 90% of the staff don't smile, in the night the man with grey hair will not smile, very rude and impolite. For the breakfast, the staff were amazing! On top with everything and we weren't kept waiting for longer than 40 seconds. The bar is small with no draught pumps which at some bars it's not a problem, but when they sell multipack cans of fosters it comes across as a bit cheap. The area is excellent with a no exaggerated walk of 5 minutes from Paddington station, and 20 minutes walk to Oxford Street.
