“noisy”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2014

Although in a good location I would advise that if you want a good nights sleep to avoid the rooms fronting Russel square, the staff don't mention it, in our case anyway, but the area is very noisy and the rooms are not double glazed! Sirens and general traffic noise made for a very poor nights sleep especially as we had to be up for 6 am, also too early for breakfast and not even an offer of any alternative. overall not very impressed. For the " flagship London hotel " in this group not overly impressed.

Room Tip: Any room not fronting Russel square would be quieter

The imperial is a nice hotel with a fairly good location. The rooms are small but comfortable and make good use of the space. The shower had good pressure and the view of the courtyard was nice. It was good value for the $ I would stay here again

I was at the Imperial Hotel back in May for about a week. I thought that the breakfasts
and location was superb. I also thought that the staff were very good at helping guests
navigate London! I thought that this hotel was excellent value for money and don't have
anything negative to report at all. I was upgraded during my stay which was nice. I am
very impressed that such a large hotel has such good customer service, excellent food quality
and extremely good room service.

The staff are obliging, the WIFI worked well in the room although one morning we couldn't get a connection. Breakfast is mediocre. If you book online for two or more nights you get a complimentary evening meal. We had a good view of Russell Square from our room number 827 however there was a lot of traffic noise.

Room Tip: 827for a great view but there is traffic noise

Having read other reviews was doubtful as to what expect, but we found the hotel fine for the money which we paid. Its very close to Russell Square and the Piccadilly line will bring you straight there from Heathrow. We were checked in quickly and efficiently by a friendly receptionist, our room was ready which was a nice twin room overlooking Russell Square. There is certainly noise but if you book a city centre hotel you will get city centre noise particularly in London where it is 24 hours. Im sure if you asked for a room at the back the noise would be much modified. The hotel is quite old and there is no double glazing. Our room was fine, we didn't spend much time in it as were on a sight seeing break, but it provided well for the purpose, clean beds and bathrooms with plenty of hot water and a good shower, breakfast was provided in a large dining room, with all the usuals available including cereal and juice. We didn't utilise any of the bars or other facilities available. On checking out we paid 50p each for our case to be locked in a secure room until we returned late afternoon to get them before our journey home, again attended to by a pleasant porter. Im not sure what some reviewers expect for the money you pay to stay in the hotel, you get what you pay for, if its Hilton standards you are looking for, pay Hilton prices, its simple. I notice one reviewer said it was just a hostel, that is so unfair, it certainly is not, Im returning in September and will be happy to book again as its very convenient and good value for money.

Room Tip: To avoid some of the street noise, ask for a room at the rear of the hotel, but the view from our ro...

This is one of the Imperial London Hotels Group - all located close to Russell Sq. The location is great and the room was adequate. Breakfast is typical of this group - ok and plenty of it but not outstanding food. The hotel has some good public facilties - the Atrium is a genuine quality place to have a coffee or a drink. This is the most expensive of the group's hotels and for me, at least on this occasion, is not as good as the President which is next door and which is £9 a night cheaper for a room. This is still a decent option for a London hotel - you can pay a huge amount more and get an awful lot worse.

It took ages for this hotel to see renovation few years ago. It is large and well positioned, on Russell Square. Entrance is hidden as you have to go through the building and many taxi/car hire drivers learn for the first time how to approach entrance of the hotel. Check in was efficient (much better than before) but the fact that you have to pay in advance by internet contributes a lot to that. System is not my favorite, you can check in only via their web site and you better hope you arrive when and how planned or you loose your money. Aside of this modern system of reservation and guarantee for the room which I dislike absolutely - but this makes them no different to a huge number of other hotels - hotel is enjoyable and offer great value for the rates they charge. Always bear on mind that this is London and that standards are different to continental Europe. I was pleasantly surprised by upgrade to Executive suite, which is in fact twin/double bed room with some extra space and sofa and table in front of it. Sofa can be opened, as much as I can tell, but hotel officially does not offer room for 3 persons. Beds in my room were twin, however they could be joined together. As they are on the wheels, it is quite easy to be done, but also they move easily when sitting on them or turning in bed. Anyhow, when converted to double bed, it seems to be less narrow than I would like (all double beds in London I saw were not really for two). They were reasonably comfortable, but again you must have on mind standards here are different. Room was clean but not really soundproof. My room this time overlooked entrance and fountain, as there is casino as well, on Friday night there was some noise. Rooms overlooking Southampton Row can be noisy, but usually I did not mind and from them you have a nice view of Russell Park. Corridors are narrow and lifts busy for breakfast if you come later than 8 am. There is a restaurant/pub and food is affordable and good (I always take fish & chips, however this time I tried goat cheese tart) and prices are lower than in real pubs. They have also fancier bar but they serve only drinks and sandwiches. Breakfast is orthodox English - no fresh ingredients, tee or coffee, poached eggs, fried eggs, scrambled eggs (made of powdered eggs), fried bacon, sausages, boiled fish, beans in tomato sauce, boiled tomatoes, toast, bread, butter, jams, rolls, dried plums, canned tangerines and grapefruit and cereals will surely fill you in but become bit boring after a while. However, most of the hotels will be very close in their offer. WiFi was problematic first two days, otherwise it worked well. As nice park with a lovely coffee house is in front of the hotel, plenty of restaurants in vicinity, British Museum being just 500 meters away, Oxford street in easy to walk distance and good bus connections (No 7 starts from Russell Square and goes along Oxford Street with many other lines serving the block, and Picadilly line stops at Russell Square 5 minutes away and Central line on Holborn 8-9 minutes away, Imperial hotel and its brothers and sisters (Bedford, President etc. which are even cheaper) makes a real value for money in London. And I am staying there at least once a year for more than a decade.

Room Tip: Rooms facing Russell Square have nicer view but can be noisy due to traffic.
