Stayed here for one night with my wife and daughter when we saw Bon Jovi in Hyde Park, so being only 15 minutes walk we were so pleased to get somewhere affordable so close. £179 for the family room (room 5) which could actually sleep 5. I think doubles are around £99. I obviously did the tripadvisopr checks and the rooms looked 'ok', a bit out of date with old furnishings and decor. This is why we aere so surprised when we opened the room door! It was all freshly decorated and had all brand new furnishings, it was very nice. I spoke to the lady on reception and said they needed to update the website and she agreed and advised that they were gradually doing up each room, which means that it's a bit of a lucky dip at the moment. The beds were comfy with nice egyptian cotton sheets. Good tea and coffee facilities too. They had created a small caravan type en suite bathroom in the corner which although cramped had a shower which worked well and I would rather be cramped than have to wander around corridors in the night to go to the loo! And remember you don't get en suite at this price around here! Breakfast was freshly cooked although small, they do however seem to give you unlimited toast so fill up on that! 1 egg, a few beans, a small chipolata type sausage and 2 rashers of bacon. As I said nice, but it fell a bit short of a full English. The breakfast room is also very small and with service between 7am and 9am you will often have to stand waiting in the corridor before a table becomes available. But remember this ain't the Hilton! So all together a nice stay. Only negative was we could hear another chap in an adjacent room at 6am on his mobile phone and he was talking quite loudly, not the hotel s fault but bear in mind the rooms aren't well sound insulated so if you are unlucky enough to be planted next door to some ignorant moron, this may be a problem. (with my daughter in the room just glad we weren't next to a young passionate couple! ;-) Room 5 is also on the 1st floor and being an old building it only had single glazed windows so again we were woken up at 4am by some women walking past chatting loudly. (More ignorant morons) and although in a very nice quiet square, the main road with shops is only a few meters away, so the traffic noise woke us from about 5am. I am being picky here, we are spoilt by where we live, a very quiet Norfolk village where the only thing you hear on a weekend morning is the odd cow breaking wind from the field opposite which is about 500 meters away! So in summary, rooms seem to be a lucky dip, others have commented on the basement room in which you can hear the tube trains! Some rooms are better than others as they are being done up, and the lower ones get the street noise. I would stay here again for a night, wouldn't like to stay for too long, but at this price its Ok. Again this all depends on your expectations at this price. Nothing to really complain about.
Low rooms get street noise. Avoid basement room! Some are newly furnished - ask when booking!
