“Small room for a family but did the work”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2012

In general was OK. although for 5 people the room was very small. still it was clean , serviced daily, good breakfast, good location (2 min walk from Paddington station). Note that there is no elevator and Internet cost money.

The things going for this hotel are the breakfast, location, and lobby decor. Otherwise not a great choice. I found a bug on my pillow which is one thing I cannot tolerate! There is not lift in this hotel. So 48 steps later you will be at the second floor. if you have children, large luggage, a stroller, etc this is definitely NOT the hotel for you. The staff is not very knowledgeable and so arent able to give you a lot of assistance when going out. They will let you leave your bags and lock them up for you (at your own risk). I would stay here as a last resort.

We have just come back from London (July 23). We very much enjoyed staying at the Shakespeare hotel. The staff is extremely friendly, the receptionists in particular. They were very helpul. The room was cosy and charming, it felt like home. I have known this hotel for 8 years now. The first time I came here with a group of students. No matter what you plan to do: come to London for a private holiday or as a tutor with a group of students - it is a very good choice!!

Room Tip: Just talk to the receptionist!

I stayed in Shakespeare Hotel in may 2012. It was the best expericence. The receptionist were very friendly and helpful. They suggested me nice attraction places in london. By staying in Shakespeare Hotel i feel like home and the rooms were very clean. It was very close to central attractions in london.

I discovered this hotel through otel.com and tried it, since the budget was little. I enjoyed the old-style furniture (it reminded me of another past time... was I too influenced by the name of the hotel itself?! I couldn't tell!!). Being located in Paddington, it is the right choice for a stop-over: it's pretty easy to join everything from there in a bit. I also appreciated the nice park just in front of the crescent where the hotel has been settled. The neighbourhood is not too noisy, the room was clean enough and we had a good breakfast.
I surely recommend it!

We had unfortunately booked to stay in this hotel by our travel agent for 6 nights. We lasted 1 night. So begins our list of misery. We had a shoe box room for 3 people, the bathroom if you can call it that was not big enough to swing a cat, the shower hose was not fixed to the wall there also was mould & missing tiles, no ventilation in the room @ all, the double bed was actually no bigger than a king size single, the staff were extremely rude & non caring to any of our requests, we had a bunch of teenagers running up & down the stairs & making a noise like a herd of elephants. We asked for a bigger bedroom & was told that there wasn't one available. We went down to breakfast in the morning BIG MISTAKE. OUR advice to anyone DON'T STAY in this hotel you will regret it

Room Tip: We booked onto The Mecure Hotel in Kensington

1 of 5 stars Reviewed June 6, 2012

We were on a 3 day all paid business trip in Maidenhead, but we decided to extend our trip by 2 more days at our own expense. We booked this hotel online, but unfortunately did not read any of the reviews about it. And that, was a BIG mistake! The location was the only thing that went well with this hotel. Everything else was a nightmare. The staff was nasty & indifferent, just bordering on rude. The staircase leading leading to our room was very steep & narrow (no elevator). Considering we were two ladies with 4 huge heavy bags, we needed help which the staff was obviously not going to offer. The carpet was stained. The room was tiny, it got over even before it started. The bathroom was too small to even stretch my hands. Considering our room was on the first floor & at an arm's length from the neighboring room, we did not feel safe since the balcony door would not close properly. As if all of this was not bad enough, the room was not airconditioned. It was hot & stuffy inside the room, so we checked with the reception if they could provide us with a fan or something. They replied "No. But you can leave your balcony open if you want".

Would I ever go there again? A big "NO thanks"

Room Tip: Don't chose any!
