“Great stay in a well worn boot!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 9, 2012 via mobile

The staff are lovely. This was our second stay, and the public areas are a little tired like a well worn boot. But like a well worn boot it was comfortable and familiar. Staff were great, from the chambermaid checking we had all we needed after just checking in. The restaurant, bar and reception staff were also good and helpful. Great location only a stones throw from Oxford Street....and the food particularly the breakfasts, freshly prepared are great, and served at the table rather than the usual dried out selection under hot lamps, help yourself offerings by so many other expensive London hotels.

We staid in The Leonard for three nights on a citrytrip to London. We booked a larger room than the average ones, for the size of the beds (we are both tall persons).

The room itself was ok, it was normal large, equipped with a (free) coffee/tea maker and good cookies. The bed had enough space, too bad it actually were two single beds set together and not one king size bed, as mentioned in the hotel accomodation on booking.com. If you cuddle at night, one of the two is always in the hard gap in the middle. There was a master chair with tabel, a normal chair, a closet, and a small desk to put and store all our luggage. The bed was medium soft and we had three (very!) hard pillows and one soft pillow.

When we checked in the room wasn't ready yet (we arrived at 11 am), but they could store our bagage untill the room was ready. Too bad the housekeeper left a little too much of herself in the room. There was a whole cloth of thick black hair in the bathing tub when we arrived, and next to the sink was a card that said "shower time", with a very long thick hair hanging over it. Yummy! It made me feel sick about the whole bathroom immediately. Hairs are a no-go in a 4-star
hotel. The bathroom itself was spacious enough, and the toilet was in the bathroom. I like to keep those things apart, but you can't have it all I guess.

There was a fireplace in the room itself, too bad there was no possibility to lighten it, or nobody at the reception mentioned the possibility of that, although it would have been a super nice extra.

Another anoying thing about the hotel was that TWO times, we were resting in our room around 6 pm before going to dinner, there was a hard knock on the door "house keeping!!!!!". The room was already cleaned by that time and both times we were undressed so we didn't open the door (and it was locked as well so they couldn't open themselves). I'm still wondering why the housekeeping wants to be in your room at 6.30 pm in the evening...

We had breakfast in the hotel once. It was fine, but the juice wasn't freshly squeezed, which I think is a must for the price of the breakfast. The staff couldn't be fast enough to take our plates as soon as one of us laid down it's knife and fork. I actually wasn't finished yet, but they didn't seem to bother.

The location on the other hand, was perfect. Marble Arch metro is super close, and it's a 5 minute walk from oxford street and some nice restaurant areas. The hotel is situated in a nice part of London city.

Overall, the hotel was good - comparing the prices with other hotels in the neighbourhood, but because of the non-cleaniness in the bathroom I wouldn't go there again.

The Leonard offers central accommodation, nice ambiance, friendly service and good food. Walk to Mayfair is 5 min and 1min to Marble Arch tube station. Because it is essentially four townhouses joint up rooms can be variable and quirky, something one finds in many London Hotels. Often they will be on the small side with an odd lay-out and bathrooms are tiny. Nevertheless, appliances and bathroom products (Elemis) are excellent and I enjoyed my stay overall.

For the price and quality of the bed you should seek something for half the price. What you pay for is the location. Sadly, because a bed is important to me and the quality of the matress was beyond AWFUL, I can't recommend this place. It's also annoying you have to pay extra for wifi. The staff was nice, but I wouldn't say knowledgeable. My room was next to elevator and you could here the clicking and pulling the chains. Disappointing

Room Tip: Make sure it is not next to the elevator

I stayed at the Leonard hotel with my parents for a week-end. The hotel is conveniently located near Marble Arch and at the same time in a quiet street away from the crowds. It's decorated in a very charming and quircky style. Rooms are very different from one other in size and style (I got a quite spacious one while my parents' was much smaller) and the decor is border line between old style and decadent (however bathrooms are really nice and new). Staff was pretty cheerful, welcoming and helpful. Wi-fi is available but needs to be paid by the hour and it's not possible to connect more than one device at a time. breakfast was good but not included in the price. for the whole time we were there the elevator was not working and did not get fixed, staff was helpful in carrying our luggage up and down but still a working elevator would have been nice. also, when we asked assistance in getting a car (it was hard to find cabs), they found us a car service that had outrageos quotes and we ended up getting a cab ourselves in the street for half the price. overall a nice well-located hotel but could be be better for the prices it charges.

I have not stayed at the Leonard for about 3 years so was pleased to find that it was still as good as when I stayed before. The staff were friendly and very welcoming, although we had booked a standard room we were upgraded to a deluxe room with a fourposter bed, the room was large and comfortable the complimentary tea tray was good with lots of choice. Breakfast was good freshly cooked to order. The only negative was the squeaky floorboards from the room above which in such an old building cannot be avoided, I would certainly stay here again and I have already recommended to friends.

Room Tip: close to oxford st shops

In May 2012, I took 6 of my family, who were visiting from Barbados. We had a lovely family suite with a beautiful four poster bed and a 2 bedroom apartment, both were very spacious and over looked a quiet street. This Hotel is well located for Oxford street and Park lane, just around the corner from Marble Arch Tube, They especially wanted to see the Changing of the Guard and The Leonard is short bus journey or long pleasant walk to Buckingham Palace. We had a very nice breakfast, The staff are all friendly and helpful, they kept our luggage safe after checkout and seemed in no hurry to throw us out. I have stayed in a few places in London and am returning in September and will hopefully staying here.
