“Quaint, unique, boutique hotel in S Kensington”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2012

The common rooms were chic and the breakfast plentiful and varied. The residential location in South Kensington was peaceful, and it was also convenient to the tube on the Piccadilly Line. It was very clean and the staff helpful. However, I did not think our room was very comfortable and it was not well-laid out. There were no drawers at all and it was not well-lit.

We recently had our second stay at this wonderful boutique hotel. The front desk staff was friendlier, if that's even possible, than last time. The General Manager Julian is a class act. He's very involved with making sure guest are taken care of when they get in. He remembers you, greets you and is a funny guy which what makes this hotel very personable. Jesus was amazing, taking care of our reservations and made sure all things are fine. There was a misunderstanding with our reservation but they were quick to take care of things. From our last visit our expectations for the rooms were high. The first room wasn't up to par for us but they quickly showed us a few others and gave us an incredible suite. I read an earlier review about their wi-fi issues. We experienced the same issue with connectivity but seems they fixed it. Every hotel should take note from this hotel. A reminder, the location can not be better and I highly recommend it. Thank you Blakes, Jesus, Julian, Federica and the entire staff. We will be back!!

Thank you, you are too kind and I am glad that finally someone understands my sense of humour!
Again it is so satisfying to read staff names, it makes it so personal and Blakes must be small and personal.
Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and we look forward to seeing you very soon.

Booked in advance the incredibly popular Cardinal Suite. Pure decadence and luxury throughout the hotel allied with friendly, helpful and charming staff. We instantly knew we had arrived somewhere special. The hotel itself is tucked away just off the Old Brompton Road, making it perfectly located for all areas of London. We were personally greeted upon arrival by the smart, charming and welcoming Manager Angelo, who was expecting us and was even able to recall our telephone conversation when booking the room some weeks back. We felt this was such a personal touch we have not experienced anywhere else. We had arrived much earlier than expected, yet check in was swift and we were shown to our room, already ready, personally by Angelo. A welcome bottle was waiting on ice for us with a delightful card. The room is by far the most exquisite I have stayed in in the world, above 5* resorts in Paris, Maldives, New York, Hamilton Island (Qualia), los Angeles and Tokyo. We opted for staying in instead of going out as the restaurant and bar downstairs looked impossible to beat. The cheese Soufflés was incredible, impressively big and ridiculously cheesy. My partner had the blackened cod, that's beats the likes of Nobu any day. We drank the night away in the Opulent but comfortable bar, sipping fantastic cocktails. The waiting staff were attentive but not overly present, leaving us to ourselves until out glasses were getting low and we were ready for the next recommendation. The bar and restaurant never appeared overly busy, just a lovely atmosphere created by those that did drink and done around us.
After a fantastic night in our heavily red velvet curtained four poster bed (seriously, the room has to be seen to be believed) we decided to end our stay with breakfast in bed. Fantastic menu, food arrived quickly, was all hot, fresh and a rare experience for myself, my eggs were perfect! Had the hotel not been fully booked for the following night, there would have been no chance I would have checked out. We had a few outside factors that meant there was a delay in our next stop, but Management assured us we were welcome to take a late check out and it was not a problem at all. Upon departure, Angelo had his team collect our bags and order a taxi for us. He advised us on a few must see things in London and was very helpful with our onward journey. I have stayed in many hotels throughout the world, but I can honestly say that I found, and still find Blakes to be the most enjoyable stay. The staff & management were faultless, and I will return as soon as I am back.

Thank you very much and I am so delighted that we looked after you so well. Every room is different and tells a different story from Anoushka Hempels travels around the globe.

Angelo is the welcoming face in the lobby and is a true asset to the hotel.
I get emotional when we get it right, Thank you for spreading the word!

It is really hard to say what makes Blakes so special as there are plenty of reasons, Maybe it is Victor, THE chef, half French, half American, taken from Spanish Marbela and making magic and true wonders in the kitchen of Blakes restaurants. No mater if you try a la carte or tasting menu you will start building altar and worshipping this artist. Maybe it is the design which is undoubtly unique and original that you can't stop think why the hell someone wanted to invest so much time and many making any single room completely different piece of art, you wanna come back and check every single one by one. They even equipped every single room with Bang & Olufsen audio & video equipment. This is hedonism in such a classy way. Maybe it is professional service the owners putting so much stress on. I travel to London at least 5 times a year. Finally I found the place I die to get back to.

Room Tip: take any room. leave bags and run to restaurant and order tasting menu. ask for helpful Polish waitr...

I just had my first adventure in staying in South Ken and just loved this Boutique Hotel. The rooms are eclectic, fun and personable, but it was the service that made this hotel "stand out". Julian Payne, the General Manager, takes a personal role in your stay. The front desk and bell men make you feel that you are the only ones there. The breakfast was "over the top" - it was so good (fresh fresh pastries). After reading that the restaurant was expensive, I almost did not eat there. What a shame that would have been! The young Chef Victor Garvey was fabulous! His tomato soup with puff pastry, his crispy chicken, his chocolate cake...... We asked that he come out at the end to thank him! Although young he has created his wonders in NYC, Spain and Denmark. Blakes is luck to have him! Claudio De Martino, the charming Italian Restaurant Manager hovered over us, making sure that all was perfect. He kept sending out special "treats" and made us feel like VIP's. AND the prices were so reaasonable! I don't know why someone would say they were not.

We checked in to this hotel on the last leg of our honeymoon and we saved the best till last, this hotel is fabulous. The Cardinal Suite is sumptuously sexy and decadent. The staff were so helpful and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. The location of this hotel was perfect, so if you don't want to go into central London, there are lovely bars and restaurants within walking distance, including the amazing restaurant and bar within the hotel itself.
