“comfortable bed but poor food & dated decor”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2013

Having stayed in a few hotels as a couple, unfortunately the hotel didn't amaze.

It's a fairly good hotel, however the rooms seem to be a bit dated when it comes to décor, and also, they should probably invest in some not so hideous artwork to display on the walls. However the bed was very comfortable and the bathroom is adequate.

We stayed at the hotel as part of a discount voucher, and this included an evening meal which was below average for a hotel of this size. It seemed as though they didn't really want us to buy any 'extras' such as dessert as we had to ask to see the menu, and also it took a good 30 mins for the desserts to come out to us. This may have been to do with the fact they may not have had ice cream ready to serve with the fudge cake I ordered. The restaurant was VERY quiet - there were two other couples, probably because people we not returning for a second night for food. A nice touch however was the live band who were playing music.

Breakfast is a buffet so you can help yourself to as much as you like, which is good if you want to fill up for the day. However the juice containers could have done with a better clean as some of the juices had weird white residue floating in it.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for taking the time to leave your comments from you stay at the hotel as they always help us improve our customer service level at all times.
We have taken your comments on board about the décor and have already invested in some new artwork. We are glad that however enjoyed the comfort of our beds where we have just replaced all our mattresses recently.
I am also very sorry for the level of service you experienced in the restaurant all them more as it wasn't really busy. We have passed on your comments to our food and beverage manager which is looking into this issue and will take appropriate action immediately. In regards to the juice containers, I can assure you that those are cleaned daily after each service. We are seeking at alternatives to avoid the foam leaving marks on the containers that is produced by pouring the juice into the large cylinder.
We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the near future and show you all the changes we are making in order to always improve our services at all times but most importantly the comfort and satisfaction of our guests.

Many thanks

Patrice

Very clean, on arrival although slightly early there was no problem and they had the room ready. The staff were very nice and very efficient, no problems. Rooms were well laid out. Reasonable walk from St Johns Wood tube.

Although in need of a facelift the hotel offers spacious rooms and offers a very good deal on the Inhouse movies. Parking is expensive for the location currently £24 per 24 hours.
The hotel price is very reasonable if you shop around

Six people not all related so booked 3 twin rooms through the agency organising our celebration, arrived and told we could not book in til 3pm, the internet ad says 2pm, we were on a fixed schedule so left our bags, got back to find we only had two rooms with an extra bed sqashed into each under the window so you could not get to the dressing table because the chair was stuffed under it. ( the internet ad states there is no capacity for extra beds in the rooms), there was an extra odd mug on the tray and one extra bath towel, everything else was only two off. We got and iron and an ironing board which only just fitted in the gap by the entrance. The room would not have passed a health and safety inspection, the hairdryer and the kettle and the iron all sat together on a small shelf about 20 x 20 right outside the bathroom door.
The carpet was badly marked and the bath needed reglazing.
We asked to be relocated into 3 rooms and willing to pay extra to be told they had no rooms.
The long walk with our luggage led us to the back entrance and up the stairs into the piano bar where we were told we had come in the wrong entrance.
At the entrance to the breakfast room two of us said we would have coffee and just sit and wait for the others to be told bluntly that we could no do that because they were busy, but we could buy coffee in the bar area. The array of food looked very grand, scrambled eggs were not bad but the bacon and fried eggs had been sitting there a while, the coffee was undrinkable but the juice was good.
Over all most of the staff were quite surly, and we will certainly not recommend this to anyone, we are writing to the manager.

Room Tip: to far for transport

Dear Guest

Thank you for taking the time to write about your recent experience.

Firstly allow us to apologize profusely for failing to meet expectations on this occasion and rest assured we have taken your comments very seriously with the relevant departments to enable us to continuously improve our hotel services.

I am also very sorry you had a bad experience on check in. If you could kindly email us (to :enquiries@danubiuslondon.co.uk ) your name and how did you make the booking which can help investigate further as to why this happened where I can assure you this is something out of the ordinary. Also, We strongly advise our guest wanting extra beds about the reduced mobility in the room.

We have also noted your comments about our breakfast staff and food where our managers and the kitchen Team are looking into this issues and will take appropriate action immediately. We have also taken action on the north Entrance with clear signage to redirect to the main entrance to avoid confusion.

The service that you witnessed is a complete exception to our usual high standards. Please allow us the opportunity to welcome you back to the hotel and provide you with the level of service you are accustom to where I will be happy to do everything it takes to make your next visit with us a successful one.

Kind regards
Patrice Max

Needed a hotel close to the Tube and Regents Park Zoo and this was just the ticket - hit all the boxes as well as it was outside the conjestion charging area, and had a car park that didnt cost the earth.

Check-in was seamless, rooms clean and tidy, well equipped and quiet. Breakfast was excellent buffet style.

Fitted my family needs perfectly

8 of us stayed here for a hen weekend, paying £100 per twin room for a one night stay. After reading some of the reviews I was wondering what we should expect, but I was pleasantly surprised. The hotel lobby was lovely and airy and the rooms were comfortable and clean. The rooms are small - but no smaller than any other London hotel (5* or otherwise). Like many major capitals, space is at a premium and you're not going to get a large hotel room unless you pay for it! The bathroom was small, but was clean and well stocked with toiletries and towels. My only criticism of the bathroom is that the ceiling is very low, so if you're tall it can be awkward to get a shower!!

We didn't pay for breakfast with our room which was the right decision as there are plenty of options near the hotel. We found a nice little cafe selling a full English for under £5 which hit the spot nicely the morning after the night before! The hotel is close to St John's Wood underground which is only 2-3 minutes walk away, and there are plenty of taxis passing the hotel if you want to hail one.

In fact, our only criticism was that housekeeping decided to do the rounds at 8 o'clock on Saturday morning, banging loudly on our door and waking us up! We told reception at check out but they didn't seem in the least bit bothered. But overall our stay here was fine and I'd definitely recommend it if you're looking for a no-frills hotel to stay in while in London.
