“exhorbitant and expensive!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2014

We booked in here for 4 days from the 28th May to 1st June 2014. Classed as a 5 star property, this certainly shows with the style, concierges and doormen. We originally had a standard room on the 3rd floor, which for the price wasn't really worth it. The room had problems with electrics and it took TWO days to get looked at then we were upgraded complimentarily to a club room, which waswworthy of 5 star standard. This had a bigger bed, bathrobes, better tv, slightly bigger bathroom, computer desk and leather chair, leather relaxing chair and make up desk. The club room also allowed you access to the club lounge which gave complimentary teas and coffees, breakfast, and evening snacks. In the standard room, breakfast started at £18.95 per person! Stephanie at reception was extremely helpful in sorting out a room upgrade (we never asked for ine) and Lee, the cockney concierge was great! Be prepared for exhorbitant prices if teas (£3.75) and a pint £5.50(!). The staff in general were helpful, but if they knew you were in a club room their attitude completely changed and went out of their way to help. Would I stay here again? Probably but they need to bring prices down a bit. You can have luxury but it needn't cost the Earth. Oh and be wary if the casino!!

Room Tip: Standard double is fine but not room 390!!

Dear Reviewer

Thank you for your feedback.

The Millennium Gloucester, rated as a four-star deluxe hotel, aims to offer a high standard of service to all guests. I am heartened therefore that, in particular, the concierges and doormen reflect five-star style. We will be sure to pass your kind comments to them, as well as Stephanie and Lee.

Please accept apologies for the electrics, which will be investigated, and also for the delay in providing an alternative room,

We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back.

With best regards

Chris van Dam

Just stayed for 2 nights because we were booked here on a tour. The window wouldn't close in our room so street noise was terrible. Internet is not included. Sink would not drain. Included breakfast was decent. Gym was small but ok. Bathroom tiles were scratched and broken. Staff in restaurant was rude. In fact, all of the staff with the exception of one desk clerk was rude. Air conditioner did not work properly so room was very hot at night. Beer selection at bar was a joke. Would have checked out after first night if we weren't booked by the unimpressive tour company we were with. Overall, this hotel is an epic fail.

The hotel is located perfectly in South Kensington just across the Gloucester Road Tube station.
A very quiet area of London but still in Zone 1 and within 5 to 10 minutes by bus or tube you're in dead center London Parklane/Mayfair/Oxfordstreet area.

The Guest Relations Officer was very helpful and did all he could to arrange some special surprise. We were also upgraded for free to a beautiful Club Room. Everything was in good order, although the bathroom could use a small touch-up. The room was a bit noisy as we could hear a lot on the hallway but not so loud that it was bothering us much.

The first time we tried to do an early check-in the late shift receptionist was cranky and uninterested. The second time we came back and all the other times we had great experiences with the staff at the reception. All were very polite and helpful!
The concierge was a bit of a let down though. He seemed cranky and was even starting a discussion with us about a nearby bus stop although one of us had lived around the corner just a few streets away for months. He still thought he knew better and was certain the bus stop was not there (off course...it was!)

All in all, a perfect location, with great rooms and a great price!
We will certainly recommend and come back ourselves if we are in the city again!

Room Tip: Try the club rooms on the 7th or 8th floor. They are great value for money!

Stayed her 2 days in late May.
This hotel is in an excellent location,if you use the tube,it's right outside Gloucester Rd station.
Reception staff were friendly , efficient, and well turned out.
My room was clean and it had everything I needed.
My bed was comfortable, the room was too warm for me,but that seems to be the case with most hotels I've stayed in.
Breakfast was very good with a large selection.
My collegue and I dined at the Chinese restaurant recommended by the hotel,it was good too, and not too expensive.
I would certainly return

I stayed for a week at the end of May 2014

Likes: Location is excellent. Nice area with a variety of places to eat. Walking distance to Natural History Museum and some other sites. The Underground is about 100 yards away. This made it very convenient. The desk staff and concierge, were very courteous and helpful. There is free-Wi-Fi in the bar, although you have to order something, then they give you the password. I was able to access the bar Wi-Fi signal from my room. If you want room Wi-Fi you have to pay extra. Rooms were pretty quiet, although it seemed like there were many open rooms. Room was very clean. Beds were OK. Don’t expect two queens, we had two twins, although I knew that when I made the reservation.

Dislikes: Service in the bar was bad. Even when there were only a couple of tables in use, I had to go to the bar to be serviced. The waitress seemed oblivious to the fact that people needed service. (note: service in the dining room was very good). Although room was adequate, it did not look like anything in the pictures. Very misleading. Furniture was very basic and was clearly several years old. Again, nothing like they showed on their website and nothing like I expected in this price range. I was in a standard room so I was not expecting something upscale, but this seemed like what I’d expect in a low to mid price range hotel. The web site said the room included a coffee/tea maker but there was none in my room and I had to ask for one.

Overall the hotel was adequate, and I enjoyed my stay. However if I come back to the area, in addition to the hotel, I will definitely be considering other options.

Dear John

Thank you for your review. I am pleased to learn that you enjoyed the convenient location of the hotel and appreciated the helpfulness of our Front Desk and Concierge staff.

I regret that we did not entirely meet your expectations, particularly as far as the room and bar were concerned, and have noted your comments for future review.

Upon arrival, bathroom was fllthy. We had to call for room service to come and clean the bathroom. The room was noisy and we there was a locked door between the room and the adjacent room. Internet connection was very bad that I could not work properly with it. Also, the Millennium Club facilities are nothing but a waste of money. The breakfast assortment was actually better in the normal breakfast room. All-in-all a very expensive hotel that is not good value for the money.

Room Tip: Do not accept 727.
