“Great hotel, even better staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012

Fun decoration, nice atmosphere. Staff chatty and interesting. 4 complete sets of Encyclopaedia Britannica in the lounge, well planned.

Obviously a pretty fantastic location, park, museums, nice restaurants etc.

Spent three really enjoyable nights at the Gore. The rooms are not very spacious but comfortable and decorated with great taste. The public areas have a Victorian atmosphere but nothing stuffy. Breakfast is spectacular and service was extremely efficient and diligent. The location is great, close to the Gloucester rd tube station and ideal for a jog or walk in Kensington park. The lobby bar is quite a sight, a typical English bar with a nice selection of cocktails. i will definitely return.

We had stayed here in the past and wanted somewhere near the RAH for lunch and this seemed the obvious choice, wrong, lunch was terrible...set menu with barely any choice, there were just 4 of us dining initially and this rose to 7 by the time we left so atmosphere poor and to top that off the food was cold, with more staff than guests the food should be spot on, however one meal was sent back, the waitress's look of disbelief and un-helpfulness cost her the service charge, shame as we will not stay there again either.

Room Tip: Didn't stay on this occasion but have done so before, the room we were given then was way to sma...

I don't like this hotel.
It has a grandiose location and the opulent interior is almost breathtaking.
Regrettably, the attitude of the staff does not shape up to the decor, being disinterested and offhand.
We arrived slightly later in the evening and were met with haughtiness that looked like it might escalate to us being led out to the stable to shack up with the donkeys and sheep.
I took one of the free pencils on offer at reception, only to be fixed with the sort of baleful glare that George Foreman used to reserve for unfortunate opponents before pounding them to the canvas.
I am quite capable of carrying luggage up a flight of stairs myself, so was loath to accept the proffered assistance of the uniformed nihilist who was expecting a tip he didn't get.
No water, tea, coffee or biscuits in the room, though you are very welcome to delve into the highly expensive mini-bar.
TV didn't work: had to get the uniform back; lamp didn't work: had to get uniform back; she wanted biscuits as she can't sleep on an empty stomach; ok I'll go down myself.
Reception said they would have to make fresh cookies; cue Paddington Hard Stare (not from me!).
Cookies didn't arrive.
Back to reception; you can guess the rest.
Cookies eventually arrived.
Room small and not worth the money.
Very stuffy.
Bedding too small for bed.

In the morning I had to go to the lounge to get coffee.
Heath Robinson device dispensed said beverage and, never having been a whizz with such gizmos, I asked the uber-cool and coiffured "Barista" (you know the sort, anything over 8 stone and they have to retire) to show me what to do; cue quizzical look that suggested my IQ was less than room temperature before he acceded.

Remarkable change in attitude of reception staff when my credit card was surrendered for a good bending; yes, it was smiles all round!
Sadly, the insouciant, rictus grins disappeared when it became clear that no more funds would be forthcoming for consumption of morning comestibles, i.e. breakfast, which is extra.

Was glad to leave.
Won't be going back.

Stayed here for 4 nights in October, staff excellent and professional, great breakfast. Room on the small side, but adequate and cosy. Be aware of staying in room 109 on a weekend, can be quite noisy, but to be fair to the hotel, after complaining, we were upgraded for the rest of our stay. Free beverages and biscuits in the comfy cosy lounge were an added asset, as there are no facilities in the room.

Room Tip: Higher floors are better, especially on a weekend.

Stayed when attending a concert at the Albert Hall and what a difference it made. Able to have a relaxed and very tasty supper in the excellent Bistro before walking the few minutes up the hill to watch the sensational Diana Krall. No late night public transport or cars to worry about, so able to enjoy a pre-concert drink without the worry. Afterwards, wandered back for a nightcap in the lively bar before a great nights sleep in a very comfortable bed. Room, not over generous, but beautifully decorated with a slightly quirkly style. Reception, Concierge, Bistro and Bar staff could not have been more helpful and welcoming. Will be stopping here for another concert in the near future.

Room Tip: Head high, away from the noise of London streets

The reception seems to be in the middle of a corridor with other guests struggling to get by with their suitcases fresh from the airport. So convenient for The Royal Albert Hall (4 minutes walk) but the hotel looks tired. We were told we had been given an upgrade but were confined to the top floor (5th) with a steep staircase from the 4th floor - where the lift terminates. The room was comfortable and the sash window was open showing that the exterior had not been painted this century. I would think a thorough refurbishment would add some glamour to a hotel crying out for some tlc and some investment. The staff were very helpful and polite. An average experience.
