I stayed here at the end of September for 5 nights in a double room. The hotel is very well situated, directly opposite the entrance to Chinatown and a 10-15 minute walk from Oxford Street, Covent Garden and Soho, between the Piccadilly Circus and Leicester Square tube stations.
The staff at the reception desk were extremely nice and very patient. I asked for a quiet room and was given one at the back of the building since Shaftesbury Avenue is a very busy street. The room itself was pretty dark and the drab furnishings didn’t help much either. It wasn’t very spacious, but I suppose it was a normal size for a standard room in London. The facilities were good: tea-making facilities, complimentary mineral water, free newspaper, safe, and mini-bar with soft drinks. WiFi was free throughout the building although it was somewhat temperamental and was absolutely hopeless for using Skype.The bathroom was shower only, but everything worked well.
The breakfast was rather basic and the breakfast room itself was a bit depressing in the basement, but the waitress was very nice and attentive. If you are considering whether or not to shell out the hefty additional price for the breakfast, I would strongly suggest that you save your money and eat outside the hotel. There are plenty of places in the vicinity.
All in all, I would probably return to the hotel again although it would not be my first choice. The best thing about the hotel is the staff. They were just great and deserve a pat on the back. Good service with a smile is becoming a rare commodity in downtown London hotels, even though it is very much appreciated by guests!
