“Great bed, rabbitt warren to find.. dodgy receptionist.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2010

I made a late booking for the same evening and confirmed everything on the phone. When I arrived late and "tired", I was asked to sign bill beforehand... fair enough. However, receptionist tried to charge for room extras of £50 BEFORE i used the room.

So found the room, eventually, after walking up and down stairs and through various corridors.

Room was good though and a very comfortable/clean bed.

Great location. Can't get more central.

Dear Reamo of London,

Thank you for posting your feedback on Trip Advisor following your recent stay at Charing Cross Hotel.

I understand that the issue concerning the initial charge on check-in has somewhat brought confusion on your part.

Please allow me to clarify that if a booking is to be paid for by the actual guest, all receptionists have to perform card authorisation on the card to be used for payment.

The hotel only blocks off certain amount on the card and this is automatically released upon check out.

This is to cover whatever expense that might be incurred by the guest whilst staying in the hotel such as bar, room service or restaurant charges.

I sincerely hope that you will once again choose to stay at Charing Cross Hotel when your travels bring you to this part of London in the near future.

Kind Regards,

Susan

This hotel is in the best location for getting around London. Next door to the rail station and tube and 1 minute walk to Trafalgar square and 2 minutes to get a boat at the Thames.
Restored building very nice, staff friendly and helpful. The rooms have a safe, iron board and iron, tea and coffee making facilities etc.
The only grumple we had was the shower was a bit poor, no power in it at all. The room was nice and updated but the bathroom needed some attention. The tiles on the bath panel were chipped and loose.
We would stay here again as the location makes up for the bathroom! We both had a great sleep no issues with noise.

Stayed here 30th October while in London to see a show with friends, and what a hotel!!! there are some fantastic period features in this hotel with a fantastic central stair case the hotel has been modernised very sympathetically and is not "old and dated" as one previous reviewer had stated.

When we arrived we had the option of upgrading to a suite so we thought why not? The room was very clean with complimentary wine and mineral water in the room.
The bathroom was spotless as were the landings, halls and all public areas of the hotel.

The tarrif is expensive at this hotel but you get what you pay for and after all it is in the middle of London and you've got to expect to pay a bit more.
We found the staff to be very friendly and alwys greeted you with a smile and respect.

The breakfast was good with a reasonable choice and all the different cultures catered for with the usual cold meats, cheeses yoghurts etc as well as the usual full english buffet.

We couldn't fault this hotel and would definately stay again albeit for a treat.

I used an agency to book this room and quite frankly can't fault my stay.

I stayed in Buckingham wing. Great sized room, iron ironing board etc on hand.

Very clean, very quiet. Had a 'bath' as well as a shower (always a plus in London).

Excellent location!! And fab brekkie!

I'd certainly recommend room 845.

We booked with Hotel Direct to stay at The Charing Cross Hotel 23rd & 24th October 2010 and we have to say our experience was totally opposite to the last review posted. Our room was in the Buckingham Wing and was adequate however there was a persistant noise from an outside generator. After having explained to reception that I was a light sleeper we were allocated a quieter room in the main bulding. Erik, the luggage porter, arranged for our suitcase to be moved while we began our sight seeing in the city. All the staff concerned could not have been more helpful.
The hotel itself is in a perfect location for a short theatre/sightseeing break. The room we had was very good value for money and we felt that the staff work hard to ensure a welcoming and friendly atmosphere. For example a request for extra tea bags resulted in an assortment being delivered to our room within minutes and at breakfast it was not a problem to have some coissants warmed and brought to our table. Finally the candles and tealights which adorned the corridor and staircase on an evening were a welcome tonic after the hustle and bustle of a day in the busy city.
Thank you Charing Cross Hotel. We had a lovely weekend!

My daughter and I decided to pop down to London to see a show and do some shopping. We booked this hotel as it was on the Strand near the Savoy Theatre. It is right next door to Charing Cross tube and rail station on the corner of Trafalgar Square. It could not be more convenient for historical sights and shopping areas. Loads of restaurants in the vicinity too. We booked a delux twin. Room was large, very clean, if you ignored the state of the windows, and the beds were really comfortable. We found it very quiet and we got a really good night's sleep. The bathroom was huge and the shower hot and strong. We had breakfast included in the price and was adequate. The staff were without exception very friendly and welcoming. I would happily stay here again.

We stayed at the Charing Cross Hotel in London last Saturday night (23rd) and were given a room which was for disabled persons. Whilst I have no issue with persons with special needs this was not a room I expected to share with my wife for her 30th birthday. The bathroom was huge with bars everywhere, no bath but a huge shower area which flooded the whole bathroom area and drained slowly.

The hotel staff were not prepared to move us and explained it was because we had booked through an agency (ie Hotels Direct) and not direct with them. They were not able to move us. Believe me when I say we paid over £150.00 for a double room so its not as if we paid a cheap rate.

Its almost as if the hotel staff looked down on us because we had booked through an agency.
