“A wonderful breakfast...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 28, 2013

Stayed here on Feb 26th on the 5th floor overlooking St Katherine's Dock.

You may be tempted to get a room with a view of Tower Bridge but you'll get a better night's sleep if you get one overlooking St Katherine's Dock.

Architecturally, this hotel seems a little dated but it is spotlessly clean and the service is good. The breakfast is quite wonderful, catering for most tastes. The service at breakfast is great.

If you're lucky enough to be upgraded to the executive 5th floor, you can use the executive lounge with its free teas and coffees, wines, nibbles and biscuits.

Room Tip: You'll get a better night's sleep if you get a room overlooking St Katherine's Dock.

No heating working in Feb, it was freezing, no help from staff resulted in no sleep. Heavily blood stained towel in the room. Disgusting. The windows are very old, letting through lots of noise and cold air. On a plus note the room was refurbished and the decoration was pleasant. The purpose of a hotel is to get a good nights sleep, this was not possible as it was freezing. Management not helpful regarding my issues, apparently if we stay again we will get free fruit to make up for it!!!

Dear Reviewer,
Thanks for your post,
I am truly sorry to read that we let you down and that despite raising these issues with the team; they were not resolved to your satisfaction. A stained towel is unacceptable and this isolated incident has been addressed with our linen provider. I regret that the heating was not working in your room and we failed to ensure you had a comfortable nights’ sleep.
I really hope you will return so we’ll have the chance to restore your faith in us.
Kind regards
Ian

A lovely position, adjacent to the Thames, the Tower of London, and Tower Bridge. Had a good room with river and bridge views. Great restaurants and attractions in walking distance. Advise you to buy an Oyster card which can be used on trains, underground, buses and Thames kippers boats up hand down the river. Restaurant and bars typical London prices. Good breakfast.

Dear Reviewer,
Thanks for your post,
I am glad that you were pleased with our location and the many sights on our doorstep. I completely agree with your recommendation; Oyster cards certainly offer the best value for money when getting around London.
I hope we can welcome you back soon.
Kind regards
Ian

My wife and I stayed at The Tower hotel for one night as part of an organised theatre trip with a local coach operator. The tower is a new hotel for our operator having previously stayed at the Hilton Metropole.

Firstly I should say that following advice on this site we contacted the hotel in advance and requested an upgraded room with a view of Tower Bridge. This was dealt with quickly and efficently via email for a small supplement of £20 for a double room. (Also on offer - a executive room with luxury bedding, chocolates and sparkling wine for £50 extra). From the outside the hotel does appear a little tired but inside it is clean and modern. All the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. When we entered out room we were immediately stunned by the view of Tower Bridge. It was amazing and very worth the small upgrade fee. (We stayed in room 341). The views were even more amazing after dark when the bridge was all lit up).

The only problem we encountered was with the heating. Unfortunately there was a problem with the heating not working in some of the rooms. This was apparently due to a flood in the plant room. We were told that engineers were working on it and were provided with an extra quilt and blanket. This did taint the trip a little but it was beyond control of the hotel and they did do their best in the circumstances. This is the only reason I have not rated it as excellent.

Other than that, the shower was good with plenty of hot water, towels were of a good size and quality. The bed was massive and very comfortable. Breakfast was a buffet style and of a very good quality. A wide choice of continental and full English to choose from - I left very full! The location of the hotel is very central, excellent transport connections and the staff would hail you a taxi to the door. Parking available on site, we did not use this so I can't comment on the cost. We would stay here again and give the hotel a chance to impress us again without the heating problems.

Room Tip: Executive rooms upgrades with a bridge view are worth it if you wish to spend the money (see pic) I...

I've now stayed here twice & find it an excellent base when coming to London. There are plenty of places of interest within easy reach by foot or underground rail. The Tower of London & Tower bridge are right next door.
The hotel staff are excellent & courteous and polite. The morning breakfast is very good and will set you up for the day. Rooms at the front of the building have views of the river, which is interesting to watch, especially as the bridge goes up! There is a car park (£20 a day), but limited spaces. However Tower Bridge underground is only a short walk away , by the Tower of london.
meals in the downstairs restaurant or bar on the second floor overlooking the Tower Bridge are good, the bar being reasonably priced for London. The hotel is clean and well decorated , the only drawback is the Tv system seems to turn off and switch channels( this has happened both times I've stayed here) However I am returning next month as such an easy place to get to & convienent for tube.Do look out for special offers & upgrades that include parking & breakfast - these can be well worth the extra.

Just a short tube ride from London Liverpool Street and close to so many nearby tourist attraction. Location could not be any better. We had a lovely river view (not of the Tower), but it was quiet. Our room was spacious, very modern and the bed was huge. White company toiletries provided in the bathroom were brilliant. The kids loved the fact that you could hear the TV through the speakers in the bathroom! Only minor complaint would be for the hotel to invest in a more robust sofa bed for the children - could really feel the springs. However, we will definitely be back.

Room Tip: Floor 5 - lovely decor.
