“Great hotel”

We are currently staying at the Royal Horseguards on our way to Cape Town. We arrived before the regular check-in time and reception was very accommodating. The location is wonderful - a short walk to the London Eye, 10 Downing Street, Trafalgar Square and a short walk to a variety of casual restaurants. The staff have been very attentive and friendly from the moment we checked in. It feels like a small hotel which we like. We would not hesitate to highly recommend this hotel.

We have stayed in a few "luxury" hotels around the country but for me, nothing comes close to The Royal Horseguards. Nothing is too much trouble here and you really are made to feel very special. And, if you can get a room on one of the guoman offers, it makes it even better value. Thank you again, Horseguards, rest assured we will be back!!

Not cheap, but got a decent deal through internet. Extremely good and friendly service, very comfortable room, windows could open so fresh air in the night, clean room and bathroom. Breakfast was included with a lot to choose from, plus GOOD COFFEE!! Location perfect, just a minute's walk to Embankment station, a couple of minutes to the Thames and three or four minutes walk to Trafalgar square. I don't have money to burn but if I can afford it I will definitely stay again.

I really enjoyed our weekend stay here. The interiors are strikingly beautiful, with a modern-classic feel. Our standard room and bathroom were spacious (by London standards) and well-equipped. Breakfast was great, both in terms of the food and the service. The bar is classy, lovely for a late night drink. Little details such as complimentary daily papers, a good choice of in-room magazines and juice whilst you wait for a breakfast table make the place stand out. Evening turndown was basically a full room servicing. The staff, in general, had fantastic attitudes and enhanced our stay, treating every guest in a large, busy hotel as an important, valued customer. We got a great rate with otel.com (given this, we accepted our brick-wall view - but I'd request an outward facing room in future!)

Despite all this, it wasn't perfect so, for the management's benefit mainly, I'll highlight a few niggles (though they won't put me off returning to this as my first choice for London). At check-in, the receptionist didn't ask to swipe our credit card and, though we thought this odd, we didn't feel it was our responsibility to request they do this to authorise credit. This, unsurprisingly, caused some inconvenience when the barman couldn't close our account after those late night drinks, resulting in several annoying phonecalls to our room around midnight as the staff struggled to figure out how to sort this issue, with us refusing to go downstairs. No big deal, minor human error. The bathroom designers favoured form over function in their choice of showers, with a far-too-big-for-the-adequate-cubicle rainforest-type shower. (Simple solution - add a higher holder for the handheld already there so people can choose a smaller shower head and a little more breathing space should they wish!) Also, our drainage was bad. We like firm mattresses, but the bed was extremely hard and uncomfortable (unlike those of other five star chains - we actually bought a bed from a competitor chain it was so blissful! Glad to be back to it tonight.) Finally, no formal feedback requested at the hotel whilst we were there! I'm a big believer in feedback (but personally would rather it via a private than a public forum, were it my business!) Overall though, exceptional - the management here are getting so much right.

Room Tip: Ask for one that looks outwards (ideally river-view).

Stayed here many years ago when it was a Thistle Hotel, loved it then, but now it's even better! The staff, from the doorman, to the front desk, to the chambermaids to the restaurant staff are all so genuinely friendly and make you feel very special. The rooms are excellent, we just had a standard room, but it was so well appointed. There were lovely fluffy white bathrobes, slippers, Elemis bathroom products, a proper hair dryer (not one of those awful ones attached to the bathroom wall), heated floor in the bathroom, a TV to watch in the bath and good tea and coffee making facilities. The beds are comfy, with lovely linen. The location couldn't be any better. There is a great choice of hot and cold quality food for breakfast which is served in a beautiful dining room with views out across to The Embankment. Would definitely recommend.

we booked this as a treat and wow what a treat! from the ambiance of the hotel to the service from the staff,everything was fantastic.
the morning breakfast was unlimited and the choice went on forever.
the afternoon cream teas were to die for!!!

THOROUGHLY RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL

the only criticism is the extortionate bar prices, but this was a treat break and sometimes you have to splash out!

Room Tip: we had a double advanced room and could not fault it

Stayed for just 1 night on the 2nd floor overlooking the river.

Everything from check-in to departure just seemed to flow. Fabulous public areas with attentive staff and a relaxing atmosphere and our room was exceptionally clean and well equipped.

Evening turn-down service was a lovely touch for when we returned from an evening out and breakfast the following morning was sumptuous.
