“Thanks for another fantastic break”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 16, 2012

Once again we were treated to the excellent care and attention of the whole team at the Royal Horseguards. We have visitied many times previously and this was for a special celebration of my wife's birthday. The rooms are of a very high standard as are the bar and restuarant areas. Every effort was made to make the weekend special from the room upgrade to the petit fours left in the room when we returned from the theatre. The staff were attentive, extremely charming and determined to deliver the best level of customer service possible. Many thanks to the whole team.

my boyfriend proposed to me while we were staying in this hotel. The hotel is lovely, we have the executive double room and the room was very comfortable and spacious. The bathroom was wonderful with a bath and shower. The only downfall of the executive double room is although there is a balcony the french doors are ;locked and you are unable to go onto it.

Many Congratulations to you both from The Royal Horseguards! I am so pleased to hear that your partner chose the hotel as a perfect location for such a memorable event.

Our Executive Rooms are indeed comfortable and spacious. Unfortunately the balconies are sadly not in use as we cannot ensure their safety due to the age of the building. I do apologise for any disappointment caused but trust the view and the ocassion were perfect none the less.

We hope to welcome you again soon - perhaps for your Wedding Venue or Reception perhaps?

Kind regards,

Stayed one night on a lastminute deal in a deluxe double room. The room wasn't huge and the bed was a standard double, rather than king size but the room was very comfortable and charming none the less. We were on the 9th floor and facing away from the river, up in the eaves, with views across the rooftops. The service was great, from check-in to a late night drink in the bar. We didn't eat dinner in the hotel, but the buffet style breakfast was fine. I would stay here again.

Thank you for your comments and for choosing us for a last minute break.

I am glad you enjoyed your stay with us here and that your room on the top floor gave you wonderful views over the City and St James park. I am delighted to read that you found the service excellent from beginning to the end of your stay. Perhaps on your next visit I could recommend a meal in our 1212 Restaurant or one of our superb River facing rooms, which is guaranteed to make any stay extra special!

Come back and see us again soon.

We Stayed here for a 3 night break with our 3 children aged 16, 13 & 10 in April 2012. The two older kids were in a twin room which was small but nonetheless tasteful and comfortable. We had an Executive King "with a view" which also had a folding bed for our youngest. This was a very tastefully decorated, comfortable and spacious room and despite the extra bed still had lots of space. Also had great view of the Thames and London Eye. The staff were all fantastic throughout our stay. Breakfast was great, but cant really comment on the restaurant as didnt dine in. Nice bar although seating is limited and prices a little on the high side. That said service was extremely efficient and professional so prices are arguably justified. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel for a leisure break or business trip. It delivers a 5 star standard in a tasteful and personalised fashion.

Thank you for you comments regarding your stay earlier on this month. I am delighted that you and your family thoroughly enjoyed your stay with us. As you have discovered our Executive rooms are a good size even when accommodaing an extra bed. I think you will agree, that an executive room with a river view is well worth the extra pennies for helping to ensure a fantastic stay.

In keeping with most 5 star establishments I believe the pricing in the bar are on a par, however I am delighted that the service received was both 'efficient' and 'professional.' As we all know breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so we have taken special care to make sure our breakfast is great!

We do look forward to you returning to us again soon

Glamour. Luxury. Opulence. The wow factor. These are all terms that would apply to a 5 star hotel but sadly this hotel cannot claim ownership of any of them. Beige is my lasting impression. The hotel markets itself on having the style of a coutry retreat but where are the rich earthly or heritage colours then? This is more interior design by committee than someone with vision. On the reception desk and concierge desk was a tiny vase of hyacinths that looked apologetic and pathetic - nothing to impress there. Cross the road to The Corinthia and you will see what 5 star is really about, Tom Dixon chairs, commissioned pieces of art, opulence and decadence everywhere. Of course style is a matter of taste so lets move onto rooms and service. Ate in the restaurant - service slow and food cold. Had room service - food cold. Breakfast - food cold. Notice a theme? If this hotel wants to know how to provide room service I suggest they visit their hotel at Euston which I believe is part of the same chain. The room - dull and magnolia. On the bed cushions and a throw which were stained and had definitely seen better days. In the bathroom there were a number of screws with screwheads missing. As I had a problem with the television I contacted reception - I could not get Channel 4. A person duly arrived whose English was extremely poor. She switched the television on and off twice to no avail and then shrugged and said there were lots of other television channels. As she was in the room I asked her why there were rolled up towels on the window cill and at at the top of the sash window. She shrugged and went on her merry way. My biggest gripe is the wardrobe where the fridge is situated resulting in extremely limited hanging space. If this is a 5 star hotel the lustre on the stars needs some urgent polishing.

May I thank you for your time to post your detailed review regarding your recent stay with us..

I am saddened to read that your overall experience was not a true 5 star experience, as this is our aim of each and every guest that stays with us.

With regards to the decoration, I agree that style is indeed a matter of personal taste. I am sorry you're lasting impression of the hotel was 'beige' and that it lacked in glamour and luxury. The hotels décor is unassuming and comfortable, as we want our guests to feel that they are at 'home'. However we appreciate that this does not meet everyones expectations.

As for the issues experienced with food in our Restaurant and Room Service, this should not have occured. If the food was not to a required temperature, our staff would have been more than happy to replace this immediately for you if advised. Your comments have also been passed to our Restaurant and Room Service Manager, as well as our Executive Chef. They wish for their apologies to also be linked with mine.

I am also sorry to learn of your dealings with a member of staff when having trouble with the TV. This is not the attitude we expect from any member of our team and rest assured that this individual has been duly spoken with and is undergoing a period of retraining at present as a result.

I am sincerely hoping that your recent stay has not marred your overall experience, and that you would consider staying with us again. If so, may I ask that you contact the hotel directly so that we can ensure your next stay is a more positive and happy one.

Thank you once again for bringing these matters to our attention.

Kind regards,

Anna-Marie Dowling

We were expecting good things from this hotel for the premium price paid, we were not disappointed. All staff were helpful and eager to provide a service. We chose rooms with views of the river and London Eye, great views. The rooms were well appointed good TV, tv in bathroom, heated floors etc. The King size bed was very large and very comfortable and a good nights sleep was had by all. Breakfast was of a high standard with good selection of traditional English fare and continental. The bar was very chic and the coffee lounge served good coffee and light meals. We didn't get a chance to eat in the restaurant for dinner as we didn't book. Location of the hotel is great for central London all the big attractions within easy reach. The Royal Horseguards is a quality hotel for a leisure stay or a business stay, but beware expect to pay mid to high end prices.

Thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed review of your stay with us. It’s great to hear that we met and hopefully exceed you expectations you had when you reserved your room.

I do agree about reserving a room with a river view at the time of booking, as this prevents any disappointment. The vista over The Thames and the London Eye is iconic of London and always makes any stay extra special.

We pride ourselves on the level of service we provide to our guests, and as you have discovered all our rooms come with those little extra luxuries to ensure your stay is extra special while comfortable.

The team will be delighted to read your comments. So thank you, and we look forward to welcoming you back to The Royal Horseguards.

From the minute we arived and our car was both discreetly and politely taken away for parking we knew htis was a great choice for a glamorous weekend. The hotel is sophisticated and slik with a polite and friendly approach to its guests.

The room was beautifully presented with every need catered for, within easy reach of theatres and restaurants the whole experience was relaxed and comfortable.

Breakfast was fabulous and attention to detail is second to none.

Highly reccommend this hotel to anyone looking for relaxed ambience but 5star service and appearance.
