“One's satisfaction may turn into someone else's disappointment”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2013

I spent two nights in the Commodore Hotel, on business (conference attendance), and - as a single guest - I was offered a basement (they call it "lower level" - lower than what, I wonder?) double room. Reluctantly enough, I visited the room, and decided to decline the offer. First of all, their was an unpleasant feeling of not so fresh air in the basement, probably intensified by the proximity of the breakfast restaurant. There was no use to open the window, which gave way to an inner yard containing industrial-looking arrangements. As I refused the room, I was given a single room on the 3rd floor, which I could reach by the elevator but I also had to negotiate a number of steps of a wooden staircase, with my luggage. Luckily, the bellboy helped. The room (no. 303) is as small as it can be, though it has all the amenities possible, even a desk where I could use my laptop (no Internet, thank you, for which they charge a lot, which is not justified considering the high price paid for the room). The room was cold at night, I could not get a higher temperature from the air-conditioner (obviously before-set). Otherwise, the continental breakfast is enough, and the restaurant staff friendly and helpful. It feels fine to be in the proximity of Kensington Gardens/Hyde Park, though the closest shopping street is about one mile away. There are buses and taxis passing by, I want to conclude by saying that I am sure the rooms in between the basement and the servants/storage rooms sould be much better, and deserve the comments that the hotel is "good value for the money."

Room Tip: Avoid the basement rooms.

I was looking for a hotel close to Paddington that was nowhere near as expensive as The Hilton. This hotel is very good value for money, The beds are comfortable and the staff went out of their way to help.

I stayed here for 2 nights and it was good value for the location. Good breakfast was also included. If you are looking for good location with reasonable cost this property is a good choice. My lower level room was tiny and smelled musty so had to keep window open. Luckily it was not too cold or too noisy.

I've been staying there with my husband for 6 nights this May.i checked the past reviews and recommendations of the previous guests before booking which was pretty fine in terms of location, rooms & services .But from the 1st minute we got there we were extremely disappointed!
We paid for an executive room to find our selves staying in a room in the ground floor, which is fairly spacious but a smoking room with the carpets & A/C smelling like hell! also when we asked for the WiFi during our check-in we were amazed that the hour cost was 3pounds although most high street stores & even normal cafes provide free internet access these days!!!
The Hotel is obviously old too as the wooden floors squeak terribly when people above you walk and it was so loud that i couldn't sleep most of the nights, i guess the upper floors would be better. You can even hear ppl talking in the nearby rooms or the noise of the water tubs around! Also being close to the lift was terrible as it was so noisy @night when ppl came back .
And the last night we stayed in we had some water pouring out from the ceiling , obviously a plumbing problem with the upper room's tub :(

Another disappointment was the breakfast; most of the 4* hotels serve English breakfast buffets but here they're doing continental buffet which wasn't even good. the choices was very limited -only 1 type of cheese that haven't been changed in the 6 days, some poor cereals , butter & limited pastries.

The only perfect thing about this Hotel was its location , its a few mins walk from Lancaster Gate's tube station & 2 mins walk from the bus station ( bus 94's route is perfect if you're targeting shopping areas & Piccadilly circus) .But i'll never consider staying there again the next time I'm in London.

The best thing about this hotel was the location. The nearest bus stop was a 3min walk and the nearest tube station was a 5min walk. The rooms are small but you don't expect them to be any bigger. But they are clean and have an excellent wifi connection.

Oxford Street is a 7min bus ride away and Covent Garden is 20min away. You could walk to hyde park and the neighbourhood is quiet and safe.

Thank you for your comments. We really appreciate you taking the time.

Our rooms are fairly typical of most Victorian style hotels like ours. The rooms do vary in size
but we do have Executive rooms that are very spacious.

We do take great pride in the cleanliness of our hotel.

If you are claustrophobic or a large person, do not stay in this hotel. The corridors narrow to about 2 feet across in places and the lifts (elevators) will hold 3 people at most.
The picture shown in the ad must be one of their suites, because it doesn't resemble the room we had. Our room was very small and the bathroom was ridiculously tiny. The bathroom was about the size of an airplane restroom with a shower stuck on. When you sat on the toilet your shoulders touched the wall on one side and the shower on the other.
The worst part was the noise. This hotel is near the underground station and the trains must run underneath it because we could hear them all night, keeping us awake.
Also- the restaurant no longer serves dinner.
I would never stay here again.
