“Not Quite 'Very Good' but Certainly 'Good'”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2014

Muswell Hill is an awkward place to stay in London as it's not close to any underground! I had to get a taxi from East Finchley station! The hotel is fine although once again, if you've got heavy luggage, there isn't a lift. The staff were very helpful and carried up my case for me. The room was fine - although quite small - but having a high ceiling helped. A comfortable bed and a nice tree lined street with quite a few hotels on it. The bathroom was very small with a small shower cubicle but it was adequate. A good breakfast in the morning with excellent poached eggs and very good coffee and although it's a busy street, the traffic noise does stop in the night so I had a reasonable night's sleep.

Room Tip: I always prefer being high up in any hotel but there isn't a lift if you've got heavy luggag...

As a fan of the 'purple brand' and with none available locally The Raglan has become my hotel of choice. Stayed for 3 nights (my second stay) for a family birthday weekend. I booked a double for single occupancy and on arrival was given free upgrade to executive double; the room was modern, comfortable and clean. There was ample tea, coffee, biscuits etc and complimentary toiletries. The bed had mattress protector and all pillows were double cased. I did not take breakfast so cannot comment on this. However the breakfast room looked lovely with complementary beverages available all day. The hotel is in Muswell Hill, approx 20 mins from London via the tube.
With a little attention to detail this could be a great hotel.
Eg.
1) I accept that the carpets are stained but the hall was not vacuumed once during my stay.

2) the curtain hooks in my room were broken so there was a gap which let the light in

3) the shower screen is ineffectual due to safety handle, so the bathroom flooded every time I took a shower

4) some bleach to the grout would vastly improve the appearance of the bathroom
All in all a nice hotel and I will definitely stay again in the future.

Stayed at the hotel as we were attending a family wedding in Muswell Hill. The whole of our family stayed at the Raglan, around 30 of us in total. Varying degrees on the rooms we all had. Some of them were nice and looked as though they had recent upgrades but some can only be described as a 'dungeon', looking out onto a brick wall with lots of rubbish outside the window, dark and basic.

The room me and my partner had was nice enough. Although the beds are very small. The bathroom however was shocking!! Dirty mildew bath and shower with what looked like dirty water dripping from the taps. Intermittent hot and cold water from the shower which ultimately ran constant cold so very unpleasant shower, especially when you are trying to get ready for a wedding. Then to top it off the toilet flooded the whole bathroom so we woke up to water everywhere and a toilet that didn't flush.

Overall not a very pleasant hotel experience. We've all stayed in better Travel Lodges at half the price. There is nothing boutique about this hotel as they advertise.

Spent one night here while visiting our daughter. Close to main streets in Muswell Hill, very convenient for shops restaurants and buses. Hotel is clean, pleasant and well decorated. Quick chek-in, helpful staff, good facilities. Very reasonable price. Room comfortable and attractive, with air-conditioning - essential on warm night as room was in roof. Nice bathroom with toiletries and good towels.Kettle etc in room with excellent variety of teas/coffees including cafetiere with ground coffee sachets! Comfortable bed, good nights sleep. Foyer has complimentarygood quality teas and coffees available. Breakfast lwas not included in our price - ooked good but we didn't have it on this occasion. Downside - a lot of stairs to top floor and no lift, though we were offered help with case. Very impressed, would stay here again.

Room Tip: Building is a bit of a maze upstairs, with a lot of stairs.m no lift

Stayed her for 4 nights while working in town. Public transport is difficult and there is no restaurant or room service. Rooms are a bit.grim and no desk space. It was very noisy at night. QHowever freshly cooked breakfast and free coffee is a plus.

Room Tip: Might be worth investing in upgrade if you need to stay here

Many thanks for the review and constructive comments. The hotel does not offer restaurant/room service due to the number of eateries and cafes locally providing food etc., during the day and evening. The hotel does however have discount arrangements for our guests with 2 local restaurants and we offer drink via reception. Unlike other hotels we offer FREE high quality Brodies' coffee in various styles via our Cimbali machine, which you mention. I will inform the owners of your thoughts and thank you for reviewing the hotel!

I stayed here with my husband for 2 nights this weekend. We booked a standard double room. This hotel is a really friendly hotel, we found our room to very comfortable except for the duvet which was very lumpy. The room was very clean and quite spacious. We had a shower cubicle in our room which was a little small but the shower was very good. There are some reports about it being a dirty hotel and I had my reservations but I can honestly say I thought it was very clean. There are marks on the carpet and the curtains but you can't change these items after every visit.

We stayed in room 212 overlooking the lovely courtyard, my in laws stayed in room 206 which overlooked the main road outside of the hotel. We were a bit disappointed that we weren't put in rooms next to each other or opposite. The rooms are dotted about and it is like a maze. It would have been helpful to be shown to our rooms instead of just being given the key and told its up the stairs on the second floor.

My husband was taking part in the Nightrider 2014 charity bike ride and we had to carry his bike up and down the stairs as there wasn't anywhere to store it. The hotel is very close to Alexandra palace where the ride started. We walked from the hotel and it took approx 20 mins and is 1.22 mile away.

This hotel has a lot of stairs and is very hot in the corridors. We had to leave the window open all night because it was so hot, I think they should provide fans as there is no air conditioning.

The staff are very friendly and quite helpful. There was a wedding on Saturday and the music was very loud when I stood at the reception desk talking to a member of staff I could hardly hear what was being said.

We didn't pay for breakfast in the hotel because I think £12 each for breakfast is extortionate, there are a lot of cafés and restaurants about 200 yards away. Giraffe offer breakfast from £5. We took porridge pots that you just add water.

We enjoyed our stay and may visit again in the future.

Room Tip: If you can't climb stairs do not book this hotel as there isn't a lift.

Thanks for your concise review of the hotel, kind comments and points for action! The hotel breakfast if booked in advance of arrival or on arrival at the hotel, is only £8.95pp for a very wide choice of items both continental and cooked, which far exceed any other establishment, café or otherwise!
