5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2013

Why do I rate it 5*? The Raglan has excellent and helpful staff, from the manager to the reception clerks. Really professional and a warm welcome. Clean, lovely environment, beautiful zen-style patio. The Raglan could not have looked after us better. Thank you to David and the whole staff.

Room Tip: Ask for a lovely newly-refurbished room

I specifically chose the Raglan Hotel for my stay in London because of its location, I was attending a concert at Alexandra Palace and for this, it scores 100%. Anybody thinking of booking for the same reason do it, it was just a 10 minute walk from Ally Pally.

The hotel itself is located in a nice residential area about a 15 minute walk from East Finchley tube station. In the area around the hotel, both from the tube station and en route to Alexandra Palace, we found some nice bars and places to eat whether you are looking for a nice sit down meal or a take away post-gig.

The staff at the hotel were all friendly and helpful and the rooms and public areas were all kept clean and tidy. Another selling point for me when booking was the outside terrace though we didn't get to sit out in it due to the un-seasonal cold weather, it looked very nice from inside though and will be very nice once the weather improves.

The hotel bar itself does not have draught pumps so was just selling bottles and it closed at 11pm. Just be aware if you're planning on returning to the hotel for a nightcap, although I believe the bar man said the night receptionist can get you drinks if you ask.

I personally found the room to be a bit small and pokey and the floorboards throughout the corridors were creaky but like I always say if you want 5 star, pay 5 star. The room, though small had all the facilities you would want but as long as you have a bed, a bathroom, clean towels and hot water what more do you want?

I paid £140 for a double room for two nights and bearing in mind that this was in London over the Easter weekend, I don't think that's bad value for money at all. If I was to ever attend Alexandra Palace again, I would certainly try to book the Raglan first before shopping around.

I booked this hotel for 2 nights for myself and my other half, via a groupon deal, after seeing the other reviews I was sceptical about what I may find. I paid £120, which included 2 nights and breakfast on both mornings with 2 free taxi fares to or from east finchley tube (closest tube station) and a bottle of wine in the room on arrival. bargain! I can honestly say it was the best stay I've had the hotel has 7 free parking spaces outside the hotel but conveniently the parking on the roads outside is all un permitted (so free). On check in, the staff were very helpful and offered to carry our bags to our room. The room was small but had everything we needed, we went into London and didn't return until late. In the morning the people above unfortunately were early birds, they woke us at half 6 and walked around their room like elephants for over an hour before I decided to seek assistance from the reception staff. They were incredibly apologetic and offered an upgrade to a delux room on the top floor (free of charge). This new room was beautiful, modern and very big. The breakfast included their full English and is formally priced at £10.95 along with any of their continental items too. The taxi services were very helpful and on time although the walk to the station is nice too (just over a mile) there are shops at end of road (about 50 metres). Overall I cannot fault the hotel at all. I will definitely use this hotel again. Thank you :)

Room Tip: As an old building the floorboards do creek so if there is someone above you may hear them.

Looks great from the outside and even on the inside... as long as you don't look too closely. Parking is on a first come basis; we were lucky and parked right outside for two night, for free. The hotel was busy so our booked double room was upgraded to a more spacious four poster room overlooking the quiet street. The room was nice enough, and comfortable... TV, ipod dock, real hairdrier (as oppose to those silly little toy ones found in many hotels), comfy bed, plently storage, a decent view and windows were were able to open.

The linen was all clean, but sadly the rest of the room was greatly in need of a good cleaning. I was able to write in the dust which topped all bedroom furnishings. The bath was worn and chipped in places and the shower head was a bit hit and miss due to limescale blocking many of the holes. There was limescale around the bathroom fixtures too, The carpets in hallways and stairs were crying out for a hoover.

The staff were really nice, very friendly and our breakfasts were great! No complaints at all as regards food, staff and bar prices. It's a good 12-15 mins walk to East Finchley tube station... or 6 quid in a cab. Out the hotel, turn left and walk to the top of the road and there are a number of local shops along a busy high street.

I probably won't go back, but would at a push. As I say; it just really needs a good housekeeping team to put my complaints right.

After reading reviews on here I apprehensively booked a deal through Groupon. Two nights stay for two in a standard double room. We pulled up and first impressions were good. Nice area, nice reception etc. we were checked in and welcomed by the lovely reception staff (each one couldn't have been nicer or more helpful!). Our room was lovely and clean, we were given a free bottle of wine too which was nice!! One downfall... Our radiator was stuck on the hottest setting and the heat was unbearable! Being the people we are, we didn't make a huge fuss and just alerted the reception who said that it'll get sorted first thing tomorrow. So we stayed and tried sleeping (didn't get much!) so the next day we mentioned it again to manuel/Emmanuel (can't remember his name!) who was apologetic and said if we gather our stuff he'll change our room while we are out! Great service! On return that night we were given keys to room 116 which was lovely!! We both slept like logs in one of the comfiest beds EVER! When we left we were given a little bottle of water and muffin for the journey.

Overall we had a lovely, welcomed, relaxing stay and would defiantly book again without hesitation!

It's not perfect in consideration of decor etc... But if you want perfection, book somewhere in Mayfair/Knightsbridge and pay extortionate prices for a room with rude staff!! If your like us, not fussed about the little things that many people have moaned about on here, then please chose this hotel!

Not intending to return, was pleased to leave.

Pros:
Friendly reception staff.
Modern decorated reception and bar/breakfast area.
Free wifi but annoyingly has to logon each time used.

Cons:
Room 111 toilet pan positioned so close to the wall nearly impossible to use when seated. Totally unacceptable.
Large stain on the bed base side.
Cracks in the plaster in the top left of area of the room.
Kitchen air extraction unit on same level as room about 20 feet away noisy when used.
Breakfast service poor. Order taking surly and got the impression they just need to get it all done.
Breakfast well overpriced. Ridiculous.
Breakfast quality poor. Half a hash brown and very near cold.
White bread for use in toaster was just from the freezer and virtually frozen.
Each time the toasted bread fell out the back of the toaster it hit the tray and sounded like a cymbal much to the announce of the couple sat next to it. Easily sortable.
"Carpet" in the hall way on floor one was cheap looking 'felt' held down by some tacks and was not very clean.
The breakfast tables were placed very close together and impossible to move back without hitting the chair behind you.
The room door look key was very hard to insert. Past its best.

Very disappointed and the most negative review I have ever posted on Trip Advisor, shame.

The guest will be contacted directly regarding their views on their stay. The hotel has internal redecoration underway, however we have not reached that area as yet and are looking to replace certain carpets in the future. The breakfast comment will be investigated and reacted to in full.

The inconsistencies in the service from this hotel really affected our stay. We had a two night stay over the weekend whilst working at Ally Pally. The first night we arrived the barman was ridiculously rude when we first arrived and then proceeded to be totally unhelpful and uninterested for the rest of the night. Being more interested in chatting with his friend who had come to visit him at work, every request for service was treated as an inconvenience. The next morning getting served breakfast turned into a debacle. When breakfast was eventually served it was the worst cooked breakfast I'd ever had in a hotel - cold bacon (with bones in), a hash brown that was cooked the day before and reheated and a sausage that had to be snapped by hand. To be fair, the next day the different barman was quite helpful, if quite slow due to having to man two different bars in the hotel at once himself and the breakfast was fine the next day. However the second sleep in the room was quite unpleasant with a dripping noise onto the window ledge that was so freakishly loud that I had to switch on the bathroom extractor fan, the tv and bury myself under pillows. Even without the events of the first day we will be returning to the Roseview a few doors up where we normally stay.
