“Good hotel for short break”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2012

We stayed in the London Elizabeth for a theatre trip. Staff was very very helpfula nd good humoured. Room was a little old fashioned but clean and interesting - up and down steps to bathroom. Our room was quiet and we had a good nights sleep. Breakfast very good. Would have liked tea/coffee facilities in room - only negative thing.

Room Tip: To travel to Theatre area etc catch number 94 bus from just outside the hotel.

We stayed for 3 nights in the Elizabeth Hotel and on the staff and reception they were fine, except for a male receptionist with an exceptionally long nose who was a bit rude and seemed sat in the same position all the time we stayed at the hotel. Also the lift is not recoomended as it barely moves and is only big enough for two people, and one occasion we ended up by mistake on top of all the floors and were met by the rude guy who told us to get down to the floor below in no uncertain terms. Breakfast was fine ,except the English Breakfast looked transport cafe level and the bacon was cremated. Also the tables are to close together and we had American and Scottish couples to our right and Italians to our left but we were so close we could have been on their laps. No Privacy there or space. Room was fine if a bit tatty , although very small, and no coffee or tea making facilities but a nice big television on the wall. Noise was not so bad as we were on the top floor. Never took the dining dinner option as we often noticed no one was ever inside the dining area which speaks volumes. Another bizarre feature is the biggest hotel key holders in the world which does not fit anywhere on you but you can leave at reception. Also anyone visiting London must remember that London is not an English city anymore and the hotel staff and the majority of people you will meet on your merry way will be foreign and not speak English. Also watch for the people on the tube underground who run about in off peak times for no reason at all other than to knock people over. I would recommend this hotel but do not except the Ritz.

Short break for our wedding anniversary. On checking in we were offered a complimentary upgrade to a suite! Obviously we accepted. Spent 2 nights in the Montague Suite. All I can is very clean & cared for with a fresh smell of furniture Polish. The decor was not to our taste, but didn't worry us. Dated is an understatement. Think it's about time to replace the net curtain at the window! Free wifi was a bonus. Per prior reviews, no tea or coffee making facilities but we were prepared & took our travel kettle. (Lovely silver plated tray with glasses though!!) Breakfast good but the room seemed a tad small for the number of guests. Bar service & bar food excellant, as was reception. Fab location for Oxford street. We also walked through Hyde Park to Knightsbridge - no more than 25 mins. A few good restaurants within walking distance -- Bizzarro (very good service) & Villla Rosa, both on Craven Road, plus a couple of stores to buy a bottle for the room! All in all a value for money stay. However, had we paid the room rates advertised it would have been different. Not chic, not modern. But friendly & convenient.

Stayed at the Hotel for two nights Bed and Breakfast. Was really pleased with the location. Checking in was no problem and the staff lovely. Our room was in the basement and was in need of some new wallpaper but the bed linen and bathroom were spotless. The food and the service at breakfast was really good. When we came back to the Hotel at night for a nightcap the nightime Receptionist, Patrick, was superb. He really made us feel welcome and his Irish wit kept us entertained. We have been to London many times but this was the first time we had stayed at thie Hotel but it certainly won't be the last.

If you want a relaxed and comfortable stay with very friendly staff then this is the hotel for you. The decor is old fashioned but it is clean and we had clean towels everyday. The water was always hot and the food was also good. Will stay again. A.&B. Graham 17.02.2012

Room Tip: Rooms towards back of hotel are quieter

Stayed at the Hotel and took two rooms as we had teenage kids with us. The double room was small and a little cramped. The twin room was larger and had the better TV, and modern shower.
the décor is as described by other reviewers a little tired and in need of some tender love and care. But as we used the hotel as a base for sight seeing and only slept in the room it's only a minor thing for us.

Location is perfect for Paddington station, Hyde park and Oxford street which is about 5 minutes walk away.though this means there is a degree of traffic noise, and our room was at the front facing Lancaster Gate and the window was single glazed. But in London there always seems to be a background hum of traffic.

Staff are excellent and can't be praised enough.

Our main source of discontent is the lack of tea and coffee making facilities in the room.

We were allowed to leave our bags in the hotel after check out and collect them in the early afternoon when we went to get our train.

Would we stay there again? We still can't decide.

Room Tip: Buy a cheap travel kettle at Argos, take some UHT milk in small tubes and take your own coffee and...

The hotel is ideally situated plus having both friendly and professional staff - nothing too much trouble. Great to have a freshly cooked english breakfast. Would highly recommend for either business or pleasure. The hotel was a major factor to our enjoyable short break.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the rear are quieter - deluxe rooms are larger
