I stayed at the Park Lane Hotel last night with my daughter having booked the hotel via the last minute.com's mystery hotel offer for £90 room only.
The best thing going for this hotel is its location. It is literally a 5 minute walk from Green Park tube station, 1 minute from Green Park, 5 minutes from Hyde Park, 15 minutes from Marble Arch and Oxford Street and about 15 minutes from Piccadilly Circus (brisk walking!). It is also close to Buckingham Palace although we didn't go there on this visit.
However if you are looking for a genuine 5 star hotel that lives up to its rating then look again. This hotel is long overdue a major refurb and a serious deep clean.
Stepping into the hotel is a bit like stepping back in time. The main lounge / bar area is badly lit and looks like it was last decorated in the 1930s. The rest of the hotel that we saw seems to follow this same dated look, as did our room (with the exception of the small gym that looked relatively new). We stayed in room 614 which was a 'Classic' room on the 6th floor. On the plus side, it was very spacious. We had two good sized and comfortable twin beds, a double sofa, desk, coffee table and large walk-in wardrobe. The size of the bathroom was ok, although a bit on the small size for this standard of hotel, however the toilet, sink and bath/shower were all looking very dated and worn, as were the black and white tiles. The shower was actually a shower / bath with a telephone style mixer tap and parts of it were missing, although it functioned properly but it looked quite unsightly. The bottom of the bath was worn and had old fashioned anti-slip stickers on the bottom. The sink had small cracks and chips in it and the tiles at the back had clearly had a shelf screwed into them in the past as these had been badly filled. The carpet in the bedroom looked as though it was long overdue a good clean and the bottom of the curtains were filthy. Our room certainly didn't come with a view as we overlooked the fire escape and other rooms. On the plus side it didn't suffer from any road noise.
Would I stay here again? Yes, but only if I could get it for £90/night. There is no way I'd pay rack rate as there are plenty of other 5 star hotels located within a few minutes walk of this one that live up to their expectations for the same sort of price.

Dear TheRudd, thank you for taking the time to detail your recent stay with us. Room 614 is one of our more spacious Classic Rooms which could easily accommodate a 3rd guest, and the walk-in wardrobe offers plenty space for guests with extra luggage. Your feedback regarding the bathroom is certainly appreciated, and the Chief Engineer and his team will inspect the bathroom and oversea any works that needs to be carried out.
