“Excellent Staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2014

I had an extended stay as part of a large group at this property. The front desk, managment, and bell service exceeded my expectations. I felt very welcomed and people could not have been more helpful. The location is very good - a very nice part of London and close to the Green Park Underground Station. There is also a secluded shopping, dining, pub area across the street - Shepherd's Market - that I probably wouldn't have found on my own. There is a Tesco Express immediately across the street for sundries.
The rooms were small, but similar to what you would find in any city center. The baths were very well finished with heated floors and a towel warmer. Toiletries provided, but no conditioner - there's never any conditioner - but there were washcloths. My only quibble with the hotel is that the wi-fi was so poor. It took forever to download or upload e-mails and messages. Admittedly, it was close to capacity, but still this was really inconvenient.

Dear Skeddadle

Thank you so much for the very positive review, we are so pleased that you took the trouble to write and very happy that the hotel service and particularly the staff met your expectations, they were really delighted with your feedback!

On the two points you raised we now keep a supply of conditioner for those who require it and will consider introducing it as standard. Plus, the WiFi system is being upgraded to provide a faster and more secure service.

Hopefully, we will be able to welcome you back again soon so that you can experience these improvements for yourself. Thank you again for taking the trouble to write, we really appreciate your feedback.

With kind regards
Annette Staunton, General Manager

If you are visiting this part of London, then this is a great place to base yourself from, BUT if you are expecting a luxury experience then this isn't going to be it - yet. The staff were friendly and efficient, the hotel just needs a re-vamp (which I believe its going to get) and once it does, I would certainly go back.

Only 5 minutes walk from Green Park so perfect location to see in the new year, and shop! Room modern and well equipped with a very nice bathroom and powerful shower. Some traffic noise from outside but you have to expect this given the age of the building and it's a convenient location so there is traffic about early morning. Reception, concierge, and bar staff all very helpful and excellent service. Being picky the bar itself could be updated a bit but it won't put me off staying here again. A good central choice especially if you want to walk to the main attractions or shops, and good value for a Mayfair hotel.

Dear Anna T
Thank you so much for the great review, we really appreciate you taking the time to write.
It is a great location isn’t it? In London it makes a great difference to be able to walk to so many of the top attractions and shops. The staff mentioned were really delighted with your positive feedback too – it is so encouraging for them to know they have got it right!
As far as the bar is concerned, it is due to be re-vamped this year so hopefully, when you return, even that minor niggle will be resolved.
Thank you again for your feedback and we look forward to welcoming you back

I loved my stay at this hotel. The staff were so friendly and took their time to give us directions and all the info they had on locations near by!

The rooms are cosy and have a posh feel to them, with very comfortable beds and warm atmosphere!

Breakfast was good and a great selection was provided!

Only issue one lift was not working!

This Hotel has a luxurious feel to it, helpful, friendly staff and lovely appointed bedrooms. It's very quiet even though it's near to Hyde Park and the rest of London. Great choice of breakfast, everything clean, makes for an enjoyable stay.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 8, 2013

Having registered late morning when we came to collect our keys later the reception staff could not initially find our registration document - not very efficient.

The room was a little difficult to locate as the hotel is a bit of a rabbit warren. The room was a good size, bed comfortable. The furnishings were not in the sort of condition you would expect for a hotel that says it is 4 star de luxe and that it has recently been refurbished...what is meant by "recent"? A little tired and the information folder was dog-eared and out of date (e.g. no updated TV channel listings) and the windows were old and did not shut out the noise. Okay, this is a busy part of London and you have to expect it, but frankly we have experienced better windows and noise reduction at Premier Inn's hotels.

In our room there was a cupboard, with a mop, bucket and piles of cardboard boxes. The cupboard remained unlocked throughout our stay. Apart from the fact that you do not expect this in a room, we did not like the thought that at any time a cleaner might try to come in at any time.

There was a safe but it didn't work, displaying a "battery low" message.

The bathroom was pretty good but there were uncapped screwheads visible - may only be a small issue but for the standard of hotel claimed you do not expect to see such things.

Later the door opened and a couple tried to enter our room as they had been booked into it as well! They resolved this with reception but it was disconcerting so be advised to keep the chain on the door when in the room.

When we returned later neither of the 2 keys would work. Reception asked if our keys had been by our mobile phones; they had not and is the technology so poor that a key would be so affected? Not very helpful. It seemed that the key problem was related to us not having been checked in properly (hence others being given our room) although it begs the question of why our keys worked initially.

We did not use other facilities so cannot comment on these but the room service menu was very expensive: £16 for fish and chips and nearly £10 for a jacket potato! The profit margin must be huge.

Overall, this is a hotel where you are paying for the location and a smart reception area; once you get past the "front" it is not so good. 4 star de luxe? No way.

There is an English saying "fur coat and no knickers" which if you are not familiar with means superficial style but no substance and we think it sums up this hotel.

My room was bigger than expected after reading some of the reviews. Modern decoration and very good bed. Breakfast is OK but the best thing about this place is its location right in the middle of Mayfair. I would certainly recommend it!
