“Lies, Lies, Lies........”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2012

I booked this hotel for two nights, having stayed here many times in the past few years. I arrived at 10pm, alone (female) after a 5 hour trip to be told the hotel was overbooked and they did not have a room for me. This was despite me having booked a month previously directly with the hotel and having paid in advance.
After much argument, the manager arrived and patronisingly told me he was moving me to, and I quote, a '6 star hotel in Knightsbridge' - but I didn't want to be in Knightsbridge, as I had to be in Canary Wharf for 8am. The end result - they sent me by taxi to their other hotel - the Courthouse in Carnaby Street - telling me to get them to pay for the taxi at the other end. Avoid the Washington Mayfair at all costs - the sister hotel was poor - no apology, no upgrade, nothing! This place has gone totally downhill!

This hotel was basic and cleanish but far far too hot. The air conditioning in the room seemed to be making the right noises-if a little loud-but it may no difference to the heat. This was made worse by having a room with windows that were sealed shut. Will not be returning

Room Tip: Go without an overcoat

Had a good stay at Washington. Reception very professional. Room was at standard, although not always soundproof for noise in the corridor or for connecting rooms.
The location is great as in walking distance from New Bond, Regent, etc

I stayed in this hotel for 11 nights in October whilst on London on a business trip.

The positive aspects of the hotel would have to be the location - This is the strongest point of the property. Whilst looking at the hotel rates, you are basically paying for location, and sadly not service levels.

The room was clean (as you would expect) and had a nice balcony door. The bathroom was in decent condition also. However, there was a problem with the bed sheets. On my 2nd night in the hotel i noticed that there was a "musty" smell coming from the duvet. I called reception in the morning and asked for all the bed sheets to be replaced. The following night i came home quiet late and discovered that the bed had been made, but the duvet was still smelly. As a result of this i felt a little annoyed - It was too late and i was too tired to call reception at 23:30 for them to come and change my bed (again). Again, the following morning i called reception (a little annoyed after a disturbed sleep). I was promised the duvet would be replaced. In the afternoon i came back in to my room and noticed a strong smell of air freshener. Instantly i was suspicious. My bed sheets had basically been covered in air freshener (which upset my asthma), and STILL the smelly duvet had not been changed!! They basically tried to cover up the smell. For over £200 a night, i would expect more.

I called reception and spoke to the Duty Manager - And on the 4th time of asking they send someone to come and finally changed my duvet and sheets.

I was offered an apology, but no explanation or room upgrade (i still had 6 nights remaining in my stay).

The only other disappointment with this hotel was the "gym". I specifically chose this hotel because it had a picture of a gym on the website. The gym is basically some old, poorly maintained equipment in a small room on the 5th floor. Some of the most useful equipment was broken (and looked like it had been broken for some time).

Personally, i would stay there are hotels in the same area that are better value. If you are staying just for 1 or 2 nights and you want a hotel with excellent location for shopping - This hotel is OK (just OK).

Hotel is ideally located for shoppers, near to Oxford Street as also near to Buckingham Palace.
However, rooms are small and the breakfast is not at all sumptuous; especially for Indians who crave for Indian food. Lots of Indian film stars stay in this hotel and for those who would like to see them at close quarters the hotel is very good.

Room Tip: Rooms in the front and higher floors.

nice hotel, with a great lobby downstairs.
staff were kind and gentle, looks a bit different from outside, but from the inside it looks great.
great location as well.
was just a bit more expensive that i had initially planned, but i guess the location makes it all worth it!
