We just returned from 3 nights at this hotel, which I booked through ----, after reading the good reviews on this website. It is a few blocks from the Tate Modern and Millenium Bridge, just down the street from the Thames and a 1 minute walk to the main Train and Tube station. It seems like a very convenient hotel for business travelers, as many of the guests wore suits in the breakfast room. The breakfast buffet was included in our room rate, which averaged 70 pounds per night and was very good, with yogurt, cereals, pastries, juices and tea. Our room seemed newly refurbished. It had high ceilings, a large flat screen TV hung on the wall, modern framed artwork, bathrobes, security safe and a chic fabric headboard and bed pillows.
When we told our London residing friends that we were staying in that part of town, they equated it to staying at touristy Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco. It's not the poshest neighborhood, and there's little hustle and bustle at night, so it's better than staying right near one of the busy main squares. The bar next door was overflowing with after-work suits, but aside from that place and the hotel's restaurants, there are hardly any places to eat within walking distance after 8pm. Thus, I would recommend eating dinner elsewhere in the city before retiring to your hotel. We ate at the hotel's restaurant, Georgetown, and it was just average. The first night we arrived we wanted to eat at The Cinnamon Club and the concierge got us reservations, plus printed out an enlarged map and had it all ready for us when we came downstairs, just like a more expensive hotel would do.
Our room was a Superior on the 5th floor and faced the river side. This also means it faced the above ground train. The windows were probably double-paned, since we didn't hear much noise once the windows were shut. They don't open fully, just angling enough to let in air and standard city noise. I am sensitive to noise, and you hear the train click along the track now and then, but it's fine with the windows closed. One unusual incident - about an hour after we checked in, an enourmous bumble bee, about the size of a large date, started flying around our room. On the 5th floor! Either it entered through the air ducts or when we opened the window, but finally we whacked it with a magazine.
There is a large fitness gym next door, complimentary to guests, but we were so busy sightseeing that we didn't get a chance to use it.
If you don't need to be in the center of town, then I highly recommended this clean hotel with renovated rooms and close proximity to the tube.
