“EXPERIENCE”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2013

This is an "experience" restaurant - one that has show high up on its list of priorities sometimes at the expense of the food and service. On a recent visit however we were pleased both by the wonderful food (venison) and service. The daily lunch menu is very good value if a bit expensive. However the quality of our food and the attentions of the manager were good justifications for the price, This is not a regular dining experience but for special events and festive times of the year like Christmas it is worth pushing the boat out. If you want to spend loads you easily can - but you don't have too. The managers knowledge of the wine list was very extensive - always a good sign that a restaurant is well run. Give it a go - if only for a drink our afternoon tea.

“A mixed bag”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 20, 2012

We felt a little like second class citizens having just drinks as opposed to lunch; the service was therefore slow. One lovely tomato juice and one luke warm coffee. Very pleasant surroundings but it is seemingly sold on this rather than the service or consistent quality.

The Wallace

After being mesmerized by the quality of the exposed work at the Wallace, why not go to the restaurant for a snack, in an incredible setting covered by a glass roof, giving the impression of being outside while being inside?

But what a surprise when yesterday my partner and myself decided to take the onion soup, with a soft-drink. Yes, nothing special you'd say. The onion soup was greasy like I've never seen, wasn't able to finish it. My partner was starving so he nearly finished it. We hadn't eaten all day, but how would be know we wouln't be eating for the next two days. Less than two hours after the meal, we both became extremely sick, with fever, and this was typical of food poisoning (when cooks to don't have proper hygiene).

The service was poor, quite agressive actually. Having been close to the desk, it was annoying to hear the personel shout and bicker among each other.

This place doesn't match the setting of the Wallace Collection.

“The Wallace Restaurant -congenial”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 13, 2012

The atmosphere was congenial. Service was fair, starters were a bit of a non starter. First time to have cold scallops. Main course of venison was excellent as was dessert. Service took some time for dishes to arrive, it was all a little all over the place with waiters and manager serving us. But I would recommend it for its ambiance.

“Minute Omelette on menu, vast price and basically scrambled egg!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2012

Recently after touring the wonderful collection we decided to have an early lunch or late breakfast. On the menu @£9.50 was an omelette with smoked haddock and gruyere cheese. In my innocence I thought of an Arnold Bennet omelette and thought WOW. So my husband and I ordered it, and we waited and we waited and we waited. Eventually the manager came over and told us she was going down to the kitchen to chase up our order. What eventually arrived was a small oval dish about 3" long with scrambled egg with a little haddock and a sprinkling of gruyere. Not even an omelette, the manager agreed the portion was very small and only charged us for one portion. However this did not address the problem that it wasn't an omelette and it was extremely costly.
