“basic, clean and comfortable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2013

Clean bright and airy. Good sized desk. Bed a little small, but comfortable. Bathroom cramped, but functional and the shower hot. Only a very short rail for hanging and no drawer storage. If you're staying for more than a few days and like to unpack completely (as I do) there isn't much room to put your stuff. Temperature control works and a reasonable noise isolation from other rooms and outside.

Tried the complimentary breakfast. Don't eat the sausages.

This isn't a full service hotel, but if you're just after a place to put your head and don't mind collecting your own laundry, you could do a lot worse.

This was my second stay here for business in recent weeks. The rooms have been refurbished to a very good standard. No problems at check in or check out, very friendly staff. The breakfast was not great but free, so can't complain. I booked an advanced rate of £129, so overall very good value for the area. It is a great location for Shoreditch and the City. Will be happy to stay here again.

Rooms are nice and newly renovated. Bed (supposedly queen size) was very small, but I have stayed in other holiday inn express before, and it seems to be the norm that their double beds which are described as queen sized are a little smaller than the usual. The bed was very springy and too soft.....it was quite uncomfortable to be honest as you can feel the spring hurting your body as the bed 'sinks in'. Pillows were ok.....

Staff in the hotel are ultra helpful and friendly. The free breakfast was simple and adequate.

No free wifi (I thought holiday inn express provides 3 basic necessities: a good nights sleep, free wifi and free breakfast). Wifi is payable in this hotel. Even if you are a platinum priority club member, you are not given concessionary wifi access. No free drinks for platinum members too. Platinum members only get a 'discount' voucher for drinks purchased at the bar. Laugh out loud!!

The hotel is conveniently located near a subway

All in all a pleasant stay and will consider being back.

Large room by london standards. Central heating/ac. Comfortable bed with choice of pillows. Flat screen tv. Tea/coffee machine. Hairdryer. Well appointed bathroom with large shower. Efficient double glazing keeps out traffic noise even on first floor. Bar open to
1 a.m. with reasonable prices for hotel. 5 minute walk to Old Street Tube station - even less to bus stop. Helpful snd cheerful staff. All-in-all a very good hotel at a reasonable rate.

This is a review for the Holiday inn express 275 Old street London. Check in was ok, the room was clean, nice bathroom also clean, but the beds were very uncomfortable. We had a family room which had a sofa bed and a pull down double wall bed. Both were very poor and had a thin mattress. With the booking you got free breakfast, we tried this after our first night and it was awful it was very poor quality and it is a struggle to find somewhere to sit as their does not seem to be enough tables per guests. The location is not far from Old st underground station which is handy. The area is very busy at night, so if you want quiet at night i would try to get a room at the back of the hotel. Personally i wont be staying here again as their is a much better Premier inn (which unfortunately was full) 5 minutes away from this hotel

Room Tip: If you dont like noise from traffic and passing partygoers ask for a room at the back of the hotel.

I booked into the Express Holiday Inn at Old Street, in the City in London. Problems started at the point of arrival with unhelpful reception staff, a long check-in queue. Once in the small, but functional room, I discovered that the windows did not open. The room was stuffy and very warm and the Aircon was not working. After an exhaustive conversation with reception staff (who took 4attempts before the telephone was answered!) - I was moved to a corner room - where, despite being told no windows opened in the hotel, the corner window did open a fraction. The down side was that my double bed was replaced in this room by a pull-out camp bed. Really uncomfortable! I complained and there was nothing that could be done. They just didn't care. Given the room cost was £149 per night - I should have explored alternative accommodation options - but was told by the hotel that no refund would be given as I had paid in advance. Internet also costs £10.95 per 24hours - scandalously expensive in this day and age. Breakfast was cheap and nasty. Overall an awful experience. Very unhelpful manager on check-out who tried to suggest it was all my fault for moving rooms in the first instance!

Room Tip: Ask for a corner room if you want fresh air!

Four of us shared a room for 1 night instead of getting the last train home at a very reasonable rate between us. It was ideal for this purpose with a large, smart bathroom with large shower. Plenty of hot water for all of us at all times. There was 1 double and 1 double sofa bed also perfectly adequate & comfortable. Reception staff were efficient, friendly & helpful. Warning: we had booked with Lastminute.com which they said they had blacklisted, but managed to sort it out with the manager.

We were not disappointed in any way of the standard of the hotel (far superior to some of the higher priced hotels within London's hotspots). Perfect location for bars/clubs & shopping within trendy Shoreditch. Highly recommended

Room Tip: If affordable, a larger room for 4 would be a good bet
