“Good value - Great location for London stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 13, 2013

For a solid, good value hotel stay in central London, you can't go far wrong than the President. Great location off Russell Square - 15 mins. walking distance from main rail stations and 3 mins. from underground. Rooms are good sized and comfortable - no frills but everything you need. Breakfast is average and more than adequate and the staff are very helpfull. Very nice bar area. The ideal place to stay for a short break to the capitol and minutes walk from the wonders of the British Museum. This was my third visit - so reliable standard each time. Happy to goe back next time.

Tip - off Queen's Square, behind the hotel, are two good pubs and two restaurants.

Room Tip: The front of the hotel has the better view but all the windows/secondary glazing are a bit creaky so...

This is the 2nd time myself and my girlfriend have stayed here - with the Thomas Cook deal whilst staying in London.

Excellent location, clean hotel and friendly staff.

Roughly 15 mins walk from London Kings Cross.

Just back from a 3 night stay in this hotel and i was a bit nervous about staying here after reading some of the reviews. I am Delighted to say we taught the Hotel was very good. Our first night we arrived we had to rush out again to get to a show, but the Checking in process went fast and the reception staff were very helpful.
Our room was Basic but very clean. We had a room at the front so we had to keep our window shut as the traffic noise was not stop. but there was a lovely view of a park across the road.
We had the continental breakfast included in our price, was perfect for what we needed.
Our Room was cleaned by the time we went to breakfast and back which was great, clean towels etc left.On our second morning we decided to have a bit of a sleep in and they came around to clean room we said we wouldnt bother that early so when we left about an hour or so later we left the sign out and when we returened they had cleaned the room.
The hotel is located very near the tube stop or for us the Hop on /Off bus stop which was very handy,
One fault was the "Free Wifi" didnt alway work in the lobby of the hotel, the coverage was brilliant in the breakfast room but in the Lobby he would cut out or not load.
I would recommend this hotel to people for stay in and would stay here again.

Excellent location, very nice reception and cocktail bar. Bathroom and bedroom very clean if basic. Would benefit by having shower gel instead of soap. Very good breakfast with nice hot coffee.. Overall extremely good value and I would definitely stay here again.

Stayed here for just one night and it is an excellent location for going to the theatre or traveling as it is near to both Euston, St Pancreas, Kings Cross. Good fast reception and the main areas are well finished off. However the minute we got off the lift it was apparent that work needed to be done on both walls, doors and carpets.room was okay but still in need of upgrading. Room and bathroom clean, however no shower gel etc supplied. Breakfast looked good, however, just lukewarm and if you want tea forget teabags it is out of an urn and was stewed.
It would not take that much to bring it up to a decent standard and I would then use it again.

What do look for when buying a house? Location, Location, Location. What do you look for in a hotel for a theatre visit to London? Value, value, value, I'd say.

And the President Hotel in Bloomsbury, WC1, provides exactly that. But the location is good too. Located in Russell Square and by the Underground, it's an easy walk to the British Museum and not a lot further to Oxford Street. Within 100 metres, another bonus - a Tesco Express and a decent pub.

I checked in at 10.30 and the room wasn't ready. Porterage was happy to look after my rucksack and I was told the room would be ready by 2pm. It was. Room 274 faced an inner courtyard and was quiet, apart from the distant rumbling of the Underground which didn't intrude. The en suite and the bedroom were clean and bright, and of a generous size. Carpets and curtains looked almost new. Just one thing lacking - shampoo. Unusual, this, and I asked at Reception for a sachet. They had none handy but told me that some would be available in the morning. it wasn't. Downstairs the public rooms were impressive. The bars were warm, the staff friendly and the prices weren't bad either: £2.30 for a whisky.

This, then, is a typical, glitzy city centre hotel. Large and impersonal, maybe, but great for a few nights and I slept well. The restaurant for breakfast overlooked the street and was buffet service. The orange segments were okay - you could choose from cereals, grapefruit and prunes as well - and the hot breakfast was warm. My bacon was lean, the fried egg was hot (because I waited for the fresh ones to be displayed) and the beans were tepid. I didn't try the sausages. The sachets of brown sauce were definitely not HP and the packs of marmalade weren't top quality either. The toast was flabby but the tea was piping hot. All in all, a typical London breakfast and not bad at all.

So to the bottom line: value. B&B for a single person is £58 (January 2013 tariff) when booked through an agency, but £81 if you book direct online. However, when you book direct the lady at Reception told me you're given a free restaurant dinner on the first night of a two-day stay (or longer). Doubles are cheaper.

Would I return to the President? You bet I would! In the past I've been stung for £100 and more so for value and service The President Hotel is up there with the best. But do remember to pack some shampoo.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room. Those not facing the street will be better. My Room (274 on the 2nd floor) fac...
