This was a great place.I'm very picky when it comes to my pastries, and this place was great!

“Average”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2012 via mobile

Called in for coffee and croissant. Coffee arrived follows by lukewarm croissant I'd been told it would be hot) after a considerable delay, the coffee was fine. Staff appeared disorganised and weren't particularly attentive or friendly. Lacked atmosphere.... Just another cafe. I think I'll give it a miss in future

“Little Gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 3, 2012 via mobile

We had a quick lunch here before heading to Paris.
Great croissant sandwich and BLT.
Hit the spot for a quick "eat and run"
Will return.
Enjoy the deserts. They are scrumptious.

“Cakes looked tempting, tables were dirty”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2012

As often in London, restaurants and cafés don't seem to bother to clean the tables after guests have left. So tables are sticky, covered with spilled coffee etc. and even if the staff waits them they often just spread the crumbs and cocoa. Cake was yummy, I could do with smaller pieces. Outside the café pigeons were gathering on the unwaited tables having a feast and staff only shooed them away after I told them although it was not to overlook.

“Easily overlooked gem on Old Compton street.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 2, 2012

My heart sank when I walked past the familiar doors to find it closed and in the window an announcement of a new (different) shop opening soon. A few months later I found it had moved upwards towards The Admiral Duncan pub. They took most of the original decor with them, recreating the space as if it had been there since the second world war. Perfect! Their cakes are out of this world. You can't go wrong with any of them. Decent sizes, too. Though it is super busy the staff can never be faulted. Friendly, happy, knowledgeable and always ready to recommend something that suits even if you have no idea yourself. Try the hot chocolate with cream ("The works" I call it) . Ever tried it in Austria with fresh cream and chocolate powder on top? Thick and creamy (No Cadburys here, for sure) and surely a thousand calories rich? Live a little ! You will have to wait for a table (though extra seating is upstairs) but it is so worth it. Whats makes this branch special is that it (sort of) is a 'original' branch and the decor in "Vienna-style-Kaffe-Haus" and slightly battered appearance, making it look old and comfy but not not grimy or grotty. Just right. This IS my favourite Patisserie in London and though other Branches exist (Covent Garden for example is more like a Starbucks) this IS the business. The shopfront is very small, so blink an eye and walk two steps and you have missed it . But that would be a sin. Perfect to round off a day in the West End before a G&T in one of the pubs around it . Can't get better than that :)
