“Probably the friendliest hotel in the world....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2014

We booked a 4 night stay at the CGH between Christmas and New Year to see a show some sights and do a little shopping.
We hadn't stayed there before but had heard good reports. Well we weren't disappointed. What a great hotel in a fantastic location and such a helpful and friendly team from the moment we arrived until we reluctantly left.
Our hotel of choice when in London from now on.
Ps try the Gentleman's tea it is to die for!!!

We went to Covent Garden Hotel for their afternoon tea. Two of us had the Christmas tea, and my husband tried the gentlemen’s tea (basically mini sandwiches, chips, a mini burger, and scotch egg). As with all London high teas, it was overpriced, but worth it for the experience. The Christmas high tea was delicious - lots of festive sandwiches and treats. The atmosphere is nice – although we were there a little later, and it did get quite noisy around 5PM when people arrived for after work drinks. If you are looking for somewhere calm and quiet then I would suggest looking elsewhere.

One note…my friend ended up having a mishap with her food. The staff were so apologetic – our server assured us that “she went down to the kitchen and made some people cry” (and we didn’t doubt her for a second!). They really compensated us well for the error – the manager brought us complimentary champagne, our waitress brought us any extra goodies that we wanted, and my friend ended up getting her high tea for free. The service was incredible and definitely made up for the mishap. I would strongly recommend this place to anyone!

This is a fabulous hotel set in the heart of Covent Garden in an ideal setting for theatres and shopping. The hotel is exquisite with wonderfully attentive staff in very comfortable surroundings.
The bedrooms are fantastic extremely comfortable with all that you want and more. High end toiletries just top off the magnificent bathrooms.
We enjoyed afternoon tea that was faultless, served in very comfortable surrounding. We enjoyed the bar in the evening after a visit to the theatre.
Breakfast was excellent we particularly enjoyed the surroundings as it was waitress service it gave the feeling of relaxaton and not the usual manic rush around to various stations for elements of breakfast.
If you want to feel that your custom matters I would recommend a vista to this Firmdale Group hotel.

This was our second stay at a Firmdale hotel - the other being the Soho - and out of the two I think I prefer this one, mainly because of the location right in the heart of Covent Garden and also because it had such a lovely, cosy atmosphere. We arrived well before check-in, but were able to go straight to our room, which was great, and received an upgrade - even better. We had cocktails in the bar in the evening and although these were lovely, the service was quite slow - as previous reviews have also commented - and this is why I have rated it four stars instead of five. Breakfast the following morning was delicious - a good selection of Continental items and a generous full English. We would definitely return.

I was in town for about 24 hours on business and wanted to stay in this neighborhood. Like the others in the group, The Covent Garden is not a big, traditional hotel. It's a little on the funky side, which is part of the charm. I had a nice big room that was on the street but still quiet. After a good breakfast in the morning I was on my way. The bill was a bit stiff, but so is almost every place in London.

Covent Gardens hotel is a pretty well polished 5 star hotel in a very central location - in Soho. The public areas are in classic old world luxury finishes - the sitting room was very well done!

Staff were all friendly and helpful.

Ate breakfast at the restaurant once. Service was adequate and the food was okay, but not spectacular. The fresh juice was very nice.

The room was very small, but similar to other London hotels.

Overall the hotel is quite expensive but offers reasonably good value and a high standard of service, amenity and luxury. Very pleasant stay and I have recommended this hotel to friends.

I went with a couple of friends for drinks and dinner here. Please note we didn't stay in the room - so cannot comment here.

The food was delicious, the wine fantastic and the service impeccable. The atmosphere at the bar was pleasant and relaxed, the perfect way to catch up with friends!

This was my first time here and I'm planning to go back and stay. I definitely recommend!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Covent Garden Hotel opened in April 1996 but the building dates back to the 1890’s when it operated as a French hospital. It is located in Monmouth Street, a charming cobbled street in the heart of the theatre district and surrounded by interesting boutiques, restaurants, cafes and bars. Covent Garden Hotel is "a quirky modern take on traditional English style." The hotel's interior has been dramatically designed by owner and design director Kit Kemp, and reflects her personal attention to detail. The ground floor is just like a stage set. A quietly bustling lobby leads into Brasserie Max, the hotel’s bar and restaurant. Up a sweeping stone staircase and into a sumptuous wood paneled drawing room and library, each with a log burning fireplace, quirky furniture and vivid upholstery. Downstairs there is a gym, private event space and a screening room. ... more   less
