“H for Hideaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2013

We decided to treat ourselves and where better than the Covent Garden Hotel.

Certainly a cut above many of the other 5* boutique hotels in London and possibly the world. We opted for a Junior Suite and was upgraded to one of their Loft Suites.

How could we go shopping? We did not want to leave, If only I could of shipped the huge bathroom home, It even had a TV (which seems to becoming a norm in 5* hotels at the moment)

Eventually we went to explore this hidden gem! How many guests miss the first floor lounge? We didn't and debunked here for afternoon tea and a gls of champagne. Whilst the tornado, that is London raged outside we were locked in a lounge of calm and tranquillity

We took dinner elsewhere, but returned to the late night honesty bar and collapsed into our sofa.

Room Service breakfast came with the best marmalade and a friendly smile..

Well worth it! even for one night

Room Tip: top floors rooms are perfect

Having stayed at Firmdale's hotels before, I chose the Covent Garden Hotel for an after theatre afternoon tea.
The sandwich and cake assortment was great, a second round of sandwiches offered even more choice. Warm scones a lovely touch.
Could have done with a top up of tea, but not a major issue.
The staff are fabulous: they have time for a chat and show genuine interest in you.
Firmdale hotels are simply the best

I was so lucky to spend 4 nights there but not so lucky to leave. Wonderful friendly staff. Extremely knowledgable concierges, lovely breakfasts and tea. Not one complaint...Really. Cannot wait to return.

Room Tip: Ask the reservation people. I just called the hotel and was delighted with everything.

We recently enjoyed a pre theatre Lunch in this Lovely Brasserie before a show in The Donmar.
On arrival we were greeted by very friendly staff. The Service and Food was Excellent and the surroundings were very pleasant.
The Location is very good very convenient for the The Theatre District.
Afternoon Tea looked great as some people on the next table were enjoying one. Would love to return and sample some.
Cannot comment on the Rooms as we we did not stay at The Hotel but I'm sure they are very nice as the The Hotel had a Lovely Atmosphere.

This is a terrific hotel. The staff is exceptionally friendly, helpful and efficient. The room was singular, put together with style and wit. And extremely comfortable. It was conveniently located, near to the theatre district and to the Covent Garden market. Colorful shops are everywhere. Restaurants and cafes are just outside the door. It's not inexpensive and the restaurant, too, is quite pricey. But the warmth and grace with which you're greeted... and the quality and comfort of the place... help make your stay here a memorable experience.

Room Tip: Judging from the singularity of our room, I would guess that every room has quality and a personalit...

Stayed 2 nights here for my birthday theatre trip, great hotel with really brilliant staff and I don't think you will find a better breakfast anywhere.

Ok the rooms are expensive and small but its London! There are great toiletries and huge bathrobes and towels - bed is very comfortable too.

Try the afternoon tea it is beautifully done.

We will be back thank you.

Room Tip: We stayed in 214 a good room with a big window

This hotel in Monmouth Street - and directly opposite Neal's Yard, has one of the best bars in London.
The staff are regular faces - a credit to the management.

The afternoon tea is perfect. The cocktails are the best. Go for the Lychee and Elderflower cocktail - just brilliant. Go with your wallet too - but for service and quality (and a rest from the buzz of Covent Garden) it's a five star rating.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Covent Garden Hotel opened in April 1996 but the building dates back to the 1890’s when it operated as a French hospital. It is located in Monmouth Street, a charming cobbled street in the heart of the theatre district and surrounded by interesting boutiques, restaurants, cafes and bars. Covent Garden Hotel is "a quirky modern take on traditional English style." The hotel's interior has been dramatically designed by owner and design director Kit Kemp, and reflects her personal attention to detail. The ground floor is just like a stage set. A quietly bustling lobby leads into Brasserie Max, the hotel’s bar and restaurant. Up a sweeping stone staircase and into a sumptuous wood paneled drawing room and library, each with a log burning fireplace, quirky furniture and vivid upholstery. Downstairs there is a gym, private event space and a screening room. ... more   less
