“Still first class”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 5, 2011

My wife and I have just spent our annual weekend in London and for the third year stayed in this hotel. It continues to be excellent - rooms in first class condition, staff very friendly and helpful and great location. Will definitely return.

One word to the management (and I mentioned this on checking out). At these room rates, internet access should be complimentary. It is very irritating to spend over Pds1,000 per night for suite accommodation and then pay up to Pds20 per day for the internet (which is itself expensive. To the extent that I pay anywhere, it is usually no more than US$20 per day and most 5 star hotels give complimentary access if staying in a superior room or a suite).

What a gem. What great service. This the perfect location. One of the best breakfasts ever. The rooms are simply charming. The best bathroom I've seen so far in a hotel.

I could. I love Firmdale properties, so this one is right up my ally. The room, we had the Loft suite, it was fabulous. The mini bar was packed to the gills with treats and goodies! We liked the library/office area, very quaint. And having two bathrooms is always great!
The service staff do anything they need to make you happy. Room service was pretty good too. Housekeeping were impeccable.

Room Tip: The Loft suite is a fun room to have!!

We loved the location, the staff and the room. The taxi had trouble finding it as the sign is hard to see. The restaurant was expensive and the food just ok, so after one meal we ate elsewhere for the rest of our visit to London. But I would stay there again for the great location, room, and value. The room we had on the ground floor at the end of the hall had a large bathroom, which the staff were very proud of. They asked us if we liked the "huge bathroom." The windows were double-paned so sound outside was not a problem. Good privacy curtains and darkening curtains. Very modern and comfortable. Ideal for us. If they would make their sign more visible and improve the restaurant value it would be completely perfect.

Room Tip: Our Ground floor to the right at the end of the hall was large and had an extra large bathroom.

Extremely comfortable Hotel very nice decor, the service is a bit impersonal but overall would go back there,We preferred the Haymarket think its the same owners. these guys are real pros its not Claridge's or the RITZ but its pretty good great beds very very comfortable.

Room Tip: They are all pretty good but quieter off the road

We loved this hotel! This is a small boutique hotel in the Firmdale chain. The location on a semi quiet street was perfect for us. Easy walking to shopping and all the sights. The staff is super attentive. The decor is funky cool, but very British proper with a drawing room, small library, afternoon tea etc. The bed was luxurious, and our room had great designer fabrics, double paned windows for quiet, a cozy couch, plus every ammenity one could want. No attention to detail was missed! We liked the turndown service, the welcoming box of chocolates, and the bottled water at our bedside every night. The bathroom had a separate shower and tub and it was wonderful. Roomservice was also outstanding, as we enjoyed a late night snack with a bottle of wine and breakfast every morning. This small chain really knows how to decorate, how to train their staff, and how to make guests feel at home. I wish I could live in this hotel!

Room Tip: All rooms are individually decorated. No two are alike!

Rates have skyrocketed at this perfectly situated and furnished inn in recent years. Yes, in three different stays, I have seen and spoke to Ted Dansom, Steven Soderberg, and Mike Nichols in the library, screening room, and lobby in recent years; still , one must ask about the price increases.

Room Tip: If you've got the cash. Do it. No doubt.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Covent Garden Hotel opened in April 1996 but the building dates back to the 1890’s when it operated as a French hospital. It is located in Monmouth Street, a charming cobbled street in the heart of the theatre district and surrounded by interesting boutiques, restaurants, cafes and bars. Covent Garden Hotel is "a quirky modern take on traditional English style." The hotel's interior has been dramatically designed by owner and design director Kit Kemp, and reflects her personal attention to detail. The ground floor is just like a stage set. A quietly bustling lobby leads into Brasserie Max, the hotel’s bar and restaurant. Up a sweeping stone staircase and into a sumptuous wood paneled drawing room and library, each with a log burning fireplace, quirky furniture and vivid upholstery. Downstairs there is a gym, private event space and a screening room. ... more   less
