I booked One Aldwych as a surprise Wedding Anniversary treat for my wife. I'd read up on it on tripadvisor and had seen all the great feedback and it seemed to stand out as somewhere a little more interesting to the perhaps more famous, long-established 5 star London Hotels (you know the ones!). I decided to bite the bullet and booked it for the day of our anniversary.
All I can say is I am SO GLAD I went with this hotel - it is FANTASTIC!
When I called the day before our stay to check the booking was all correct, the lady at reception was extremely friendly, helpful and was really sweet about the fact I'd booked this as a surprise.
At check in on the day we were given a very warm and friendly greeting and promptly received an upgrade from the 'Aldwych' double room I had booked to an 'Executive' double - I was really surprised and chuffed by this, as this had never happened to us before - even on our honeymoon!
The room was spotlessly clean and very comfortable with a lovely king-sized bed (a great night's sleep), very modern flatscreen TV and all the mod-cons you'd expect from a 5-Star Hotel. The best part however was the most luxurious bathroom - wow, what a beauty! Spotlessly clean with a nice big bath (the most comfortable we've ever had in a hotel) a separate power shower and even a tv you could watch whilst taking a bath - it was hard to leave. Also, the shower gel/shampoo etc were all top quality luxury products which all added to the feeling of a special occasion.
The location of the hotel is a real plus too as it's slap bang in the middle of theatre-land and only a 3 minute walk to Covent Garden. You're surrounded by great places to eat and drink so we decided to explore and ate dinner at a nearby restaurant - although the food at the Hotel looked very good indeed.
When we got back to our room that evening the room had been freshened up for us and a turn-down service had been provided. Then one of the staff came to our room and delivered a complimentary bottle of Champagne and strawberrys dipped in chocolate as an Anniversary gift! - this was totally unexpected and came as a wonderful surprise.
All in all, we would recommend this Hotel very highly to anyone seeking an exciting, romantic luxury break in the heart of London. The hotel exterior is classic and stunning and the interior very modern and stylish. The lasting memory though will be of the friendly and helpful staff who went beyond the call of duty to make us feel welcome, relaxed and well-looked-after during our truly special stay. We will definitely be back!
