“Amazing treat but seriously posh!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2011

My then boyfriend (now fiance) booked a room at The Savoy for a Valentines treat. We were in London for the 6 nations rugby and i thought we would be spending 3 nights at the Premier Inn, County Hall (which is an excellent location BTW) but a week before the trip he confessed that we'd have to pack up our stuff on the Monday morning and cross the river in order to spend Valentines night at The Savoy. Well, i was over the moon! But not to be out done i then contacted the Savoy myself privately in order to arrange HIS valentines treat. We were advised that check in wouldn't be until 2pm but that they could store our luggage. We got to the Savoy at midday and were taken straight to a private room in order to check in. I did panic that the receptionist would mention my surprise for him but i should have known that hotels like this ooze discression so i didn't need to worry! Our room still wasn't quite ready so we popped to the Wellington (fantastic pub on the corner of Aldwych) for a pie and a pint whilst we waited. We got back to the hotel at 1pm and were immediately taken to our room where our luggage was waiting. Within minutes of being in the room the phone rang to check that we were there. It was the therapist from the Spa who i had booked to come down to our room to give my other half a massage for his Valentines treat. Before you could blink she was in the room with her table set up and my other half enjoyed an hour long treatment leaving me more than a bit jealous! When she left she asked if we wanted to add the treatment to the bill or keep it seperate. As it was his present i opted to have it left seperate. We spent the afternoon in the Beaufort Bar sampling cocktails and nibbling the olives and nuts that are in plentiful supply....

Our room wasn't massive but it was definitely luxurious! The bath was huge and deep and the shower was excellent. The mini bar was well stocked and, for London, wasn't ridiculously expensive - just as well as we virtually emptied ours!!

Breakfast the following day was served over looking the river and after looking around at the other guests i really did realise that The Savoy is another world. A world that i don't think i could live in, but one i'm happy to visit!!

We didn't dine at the hotel as we had theatre reservations that night but would love to go back to eat at The Savoy Grill.

All in all it was an amazing treat, you're always aware that you're staying in one of THE best hotels in the world and that does come at a price. But it's worth it!!!

Room Tip: Our room didn't really have much of a view but i was quite happy to look inside the room to be f...

Second time we have stayed here this year after the refit and we where underwhelmed:-

Room - nice but close to stair door which banged during the night and woke us up several times.

Men's Spa - asked at reception if the steam room was open and was told to pop up there and see if it was - sure enough had to waste time to go up there to find out it is closed.
Not what you expect paying £750 pounds a night.

American bar - turned me away as a resident for wearing converse trainers at 2 pm in the afternoon, I went upstairs and simply swapped shoes and then was allowed in - what a waste of time in this day and age.....

Beaufort bar - beautiful and stunning if you are 65 and don't dare to have a laugh. We where celebrating a business award and my husband was mingling and socialising with clients we had brought here to celebrate the prize- We spent £2,000 on champagne in less than an hour and then the maitre d told one of our employees in front of clients that he would not serve another bottle to the group, without any warning to my husband. As far as we where aware the only crime we where committing was standing up in the bar......

You do not get treated like this at Claridges or the Berkeley who have exceptional service and we will be spending our money there in the future.

Breakfast - average with a lengthy wait.

The hotel has certainly benefited from the investment from the owners.

No longer the mousetrap that was once was and the rooms are great. Some are on the small side but what do you expect from long. The lobby is marvelous and the Champagne Bar is certainly a romantic stop.

The staff are friendly and helpful.

Highly recommended and I am sure that more travelers' will hear the news.

I had a one night stay and found the whole experience stunning. All the staff are very well trained getting the right mix of being attentive without being intrusive. The rooms are spacious, the beds amazing, and the fantastic shower had one of the largest shower heads I have ever seen. The American bar had a buzzing vibe and the food I had during my stay was absolutely top notch, all tasting like fine dining restuarant food as you would probably expect.

Stayed for two nights recently on a stay with a friend for a shopping trip. Loved this hotel. It's like being in an Agatha Christie movie. The staff are all wonderful and feel excited to work there. Check in personal and lightning fast. Every guest is treated like royalty.

Every guest has access to a butler, which is free, and we utilised this to sew a button on a dress that ad come off over dinner the night before, very efficient. Rooms are beautiful, and bed was the most comfortable ever! Huge bed, silky soft sheets. Had afternoon tea which was fantastic and quite good value, as you don't eat for the rest of the day. shoes left outside room delivered back shining in a few hours.

Absolutely loved it. A serious and amazing treat.

Really loved it here, would love to stay again.

Room Tip: If you like a well air-conditioned room, mention it at booking, as some rooms have much bigger air c...

We stayed at the Savoy last year and were very disappointed as lots of things were not right and it completely spoiled our stay, I did complain and we stayed again at a favourable rate and I have to say this time it was excellent. It is not cheap by any stretch of the imagination but is excellent for a special occasion. Lovely atmosphere in both bars and great food in the grill. We were served by a new waiter who was obviously nervous but very charming and helpful.
The shower is brilliant.

Room Tip: I believe you have to stay in a more expensive room to have a view.

Had a 2 night stay at the Savoy recently - now my favourite London hotel - third stay this year. It's not cheap, but the room was superb, quiet with very efficient aircon. Lovely bathroom with big tub, walk in shower, single basin and bidet. And it's less expensive than others (eg Claridge's, Connaught, Berkeley, Brown's) for the same sort of room. Excellent deal with WhataHotel.com, including complimentary upgrade, full English breakfast (including tea served in the room) and a £50 credit. I think, contrary to some people, that the refurb is excellent. A bit faux in places, but in keeping with the original style. Service cannot be faulted - whenever possible you are addressed by name - and the addition of the Beaufort Bar is a huge plus - I love this room. Late night cocktail and nibbles accompanied by pretty good jazz singing. Where better to chill out after a night at the opera? I'll be back!

Room Tip: The street view rooms are bigger, I think, and the air conditioning is quieter but less efficient, b...
