“Incredible service, location and family friendliness”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 27, 2012

When you book this hotel, you know you are booking a five star London hotel on Park Lane. The reality is that the quality of service and family focus will surpass even your wildest expectations. This is an exceptional hotel with friendly and caring staff and high quality rooms, food and facilities. Staying at the Athenaeum was more like staying with family. We will certainly return again.

Very good location, just can't fault it - look for a room facing Green Park. The staff were all more than friendly and made us feel very welcome. If you can, try and read some of the book about Sally Bullock which is available in the room. Loved it all and would definitely look to be back.

Stayed 7 nights in one of the Athenaeum Apartments. The apartment was spacious and so comfortable and the bed was one of the best I've slept in. The living area was excellent, small kitchen with all appliances, well stocked fridge. It was an enjoyable week staying here as very central to all attractions and nothing too much trouble for the staff of this Hotel.

The Athanaeum is on Piccadilly overlooking Green Park. It's a grand hotel, with the full complement of services one would expect of a prestigious property, We had a week there whilst we overdosed on plays and concerts. It's Central London, so the rooms are mot huge, but are beautifully furnished and comfortable. The hotel has an excellent restaurant where we ate twice. The Whiskey Bar, with a choice of over 200 whiskeys, also does tea and coffees, and the most sinful homemade shortbread this side of Heaven. Afternoon Tea is amazing---but you must book. The staff are terrific, from the very impressive Doorman, a concierge who works miracles, reception people who make you feel genuinely welcome---not forgetting Maria in the little Bar who went out of her way to pamper us.

Stayed one night to round off a trip to Belfast for the three previous nights. One night cost more than the three in Belfast and that wasn't exactly a budget hotel. However the room, service, surroundings and staff experience was worth every penny. £50.00+ for two club sandwiches, a small beer and a glass of wine made me wince and smile at the same time, later on, £25 for two alcoholic drinks again the same effect, but it was the horse what went with this particular cart. London has many cheaper (as well as more expensive...!) places available in abundance, so make your choice and pay up.
Room was great, if a bit quirky in its decor (boutique style possibly) and the bathroom made me look at myself in a different light altogether...hmmm...book a room and find out for yourself what I mean, or read some of the other reviews for a clue) I had paid for a Park View room which proved its worth on the morning after with beautiful Autumn sun streaming in over Green Park.

Made my wife stand there for an hour to appreciate the extra cost of it..hee-hee! Breakfast, again a ridiculous price in isolation, was superb, freshly cooked and served by exemplary staff.

Doorman Jim as in previous reviews is a gentleman and an Ambassador in the front window of the hotel, you could pull up in builders truck and he would still park it up for you like it was a Rolls Royce and banter with you as if you were a Lord. Taxi's appeared by magic when requested. Marvelous service!

Reception staff were quietly efficient and helpful, taking us to the room, explaining everything regards balcony (!) doors (There is no "Balcony" just doors onto a railing, but it is a refreshing way of soaking up park and city views) and mini bar (all soft drinks and eats are free, so that was an easy one!).

Due to over indulgence for three previous days we didn't eat in Restaurant on the evening, but menu looked appetizing and somewhat less expensive than you would perhaps expect.

In summary, it was a great ending to a four day holiday of "poshing it up" for my wife and I that we thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated.

Our thanks to the Athenaeum Hotel and staff for providing a brief but worthwhile luxury experience, something we will talk about for an age, and will be doing again next year.

Room Tip: Go the extra mile, get a Park View Room...

I had stayed for a number of years at another boutique hotel off Piccadilly near Green Park for a couple years and decided to try the Athenaeum. Good move. I really enjoyed my 4 night stay. Nice sized room; comfortable king size bed, wonderful bathroom and very well appointed, free wifi, unlimited complimentary snacks and non-alcohol beverages from the minibar, first rate gym, excellent (22pounds) breakfast buffet (or ala carte menu) , fantastic location. Hotel decor was a touch dated -- but that was really the only criticism I could come up with. The staff was excellent and across the board the hotel aims to please. The little touches are appreciated for the business or leisure traveler - very nice bathroom, excellent breakfast choices, free fast wifi, 24h gym, snacks and juices in room. It made for a very relaxing business stay --- and I look forward to my return visit.

The Athenaeum is well located between the Hyde Park Corner and Green Park tube lines, and we had a 9th floor room with a view of Green Park. The decor of the hotel is a little strange. For example, the desk design was retro 70s with chrome and leather, and there were these two odd Prom King and Queen chairs that were oversized and took up some precious space in the room. The bathroom is all mirrors and green marble. So, I'd say for US$620/night there are better values to be found in London, but I guess we were paying for the location which can't be beat. Mikael the whisky sommelier in the hotel's whisky bar was charming, extremely knowledgeable, and he treated us to an interesting whisky/food pairing lesson. All of the staff members were very warm and hospitable.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of Green Park. Although the hotel faces Picadilly Road, we never heard a...
