“Nice hotel, perfect location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2013

I booked this hotel as part as a train/hotel combination. price was attractive and on paper the hotel seemed to be perfectly located ... and it is. You cannot deny this, your extremely closed to art and shops, covent garden for example is within walking distance. If you do not wish to walk , the tube is close by as well.

The hotel itself is not a huge complex, it is very well maintained, the personnel is nice and helpfull. Rooms are cleaned, free fast Wi-Fi. The only thing is that might be a turndown for some traveller is that the rooms aren't very big, butI guess it's standard room for London, and anyway even if cosy, those rooms are well displayed and furnished. If you're looking for a room with a view, this isn't the place neither. But once again, this is not what I personnaly am looking when booking an hotel in London.

Overall very satisfied whith The Kingsley

Dear Reviewer, Thank you for your feedback, Im glad that you enjoyed your stay with us, and that the team looked after you. With regards to bedroom sizes being an Edwardian building we have rooms of all differing sizes, but our Executive Rooms and Junior Suite are far larger and a 'good size' for London. I look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel in the near future. Kind regards Paul Knightley General Manager Thistle Holborn, The Kingsley

We arrived Friday at the Kingsley (about 11 a.m.), but our room was not ready. First impression was the hotel appeared to have had a renovation, but that it needed a little "freshening up". The common areas of the restaurant and bar were in great shape. However, the reception area was really bland.
Checkin:
Check in was efficient and the front desk attendant asked for my identification along with the credit card i had used to pay for the room in advance. The attendant also made sure our bags were taken to our room before we arrived back from our first day of sightseeing. I thought this was very nice and customer friendly.
Room:
The room was of good size and included breakfast and wifi. I must say the walls are due for a touch up as there were a number of scuff marks on our wall. The tile in the bathroom had a few cracked tiles as well. The room was not bad, but more attention to detail would have put it over the top. For instance, I am sure it is because the building is historical that a central AC unit is not installed to cool the rooms. Our room had an individual unit that was mounted above the door and would blow air directly across the bed. It also made sounds like a fish tank. The furniture was nice and it was good there was an international plug available so that we could use the same converter we always use when we travel to Europe. Room was also equipped with the necessary amenities such as shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, etc. We also had waffle robes and house shoes which I thought was a nice touch. The room had one of the most comfortable beds I have ever seen in a hotel. However if noise bothers you make sure you ask for a room on the back side. It would have also have been nice to have some sort of ventilation fan in the bathroom. Please be aware, some tubs in England are taller than USA tubs. My husband and I both hit our knees getting into the tub because we misjudged the height. Not the hotel's fault, but a good tip.
Personnel:
I found the level of customer serve to be better on a weekday than I did a weekend day. However for the most part they were able to answer my questions.
Breakfast:
Also a difference from a weekday to the weekend. The breakfast on Friday was quite good. Nice selection and very well cooked. On Saturday, I went to the bar to get scrambled eggs and they were a hot mess. They were runny and I would not eat them. Not to mention on the sunny side up eggs, my husband found egg shells in his eggs. The ham on Friday was also well cooked. On Saturday, there was a white film on the ham. The fruit was good both days.
Check out:
Check out was efficient and the concierge was able to give directions to the tube so we could move to our next hotel in Hyde Park.

I would recommend this hotel for a short trip to London as it is a good base for sightseeing, and going to the theater.

Stayed one night for a theatre break.
The location was perfect for the underground, but also lots of places in walking distance.
The hotel was lovely, we were upgraded to an executive suite which was very comfortable and the staff were excellent.
Would definitely stay there again.

We stayed here for a 2 night theatre break. The location was perfect. Easy walking distance to theatre land and Oxford street shops. From the moment we arrived, the staff were all so lovely. The girls at the reception, the breakfast staff, the ladies in the evening bar were all attentive, friendly and doing their utmost to make our time their a pleasant experience. Breakfast was excellent. Plenty of choice with quality ingredients and the hot food was well cooked. Not like most hotel buffets. The rooms are typically on the small side but perfectly adequate and comfortable for our needs. We would definitely stay here again.

My husband and I stayed in this hotel for our silver wedding anniversary. Our room was upgraded by the staff on our arrival! The suite was fabulous. We enjoyed the breakfast which was hot unlike some hotels we have tried! The meal was lovely we had in the evening pre theatre show! We found the hotel was in a good position for sight seeing and very handy for the vast amount of shops! All the staff where very polite and extremely pleasant

LOCATION …..LOCATION …. LOCATION
Hotel; Fab in every way 10 out of 10
Getting about; bus stop right outside hotel..tube 5 minute walk.. We were in Soho gourmet burger and it cost for the 4 of us £4.30 by taxi back to the hotel.. my girls went to the 02 it took them about 25-30 minutes by tube, but when they came out after a concert there, it did take about and hour to get back with all the queuing for the tube
Food; we booked breakfast as soon as we checked in and it cost us £10.00 each instead of the normal £17.50 each if we went down for breakfast on the morning; breakfast plenty of everything juice cereal selection on meats cheese full cooked breakfast toast cake etc. etc., we didn’t have room service or evening meal so I can’t comment on that
Room; we stayed in room 314 no view at all brick wall outside but we didn’t mind my daughter was in room 304 she had a view at the front of the hotel overlooking the street, these rooms are ideal if like me you have walking problems as they are the closest to the lifts on floor 3, which was requested through booking .com nice to know they do adhere to requests on booking
Staff; having stayed in a few good hotels over the years , the staff here are by far the friendliest I have ever known, nothing was too much for them and they went out of their way to make sure we had a lovely stay
Would I go back? Yes to me now there is no other place to stay when we visit London

Room Tip: Room; we stayed in room 314 no view at all brick wall outside but we didn’t mind my daughter was in...

I stayed in this hotel for two nights. I actually didn't want to stay in this area at all, I travel to The City for work but everything was booked out. In fact, a lot of London was booked out and I ended up paying a very high rate for here. However, that's not a problem really, it's just how hotels work.

I arrived around 9pm and was brought to my room. It was slightly difficult to find as you needed to go up and then down some stairs. A few mins in and I noticed a big wet patch on the ground and a constant drip, drip, drip. It was the aircon machine, which was straight out of the 1980's. I called the reception but I knew I was in for a problem. If London was fully booked a week before I stayed, I probably wasn't going to be able to move room.

To their credit, the desk were very helpful. A maintenance men immediately arrived and tried hard to fix the leak. The only solution was to turn it off. That seemed to actually make the dripping even worse. The front desk tried to find me a room in a sister hotel but, as expected, to no avail. They offered me whatever I wanted in terms of food or drink. Having eaten, I just got a drink and breakfast for the next day.

It was pretty hot in the room that night but it was better than the constant noise and growing wet patch.

The next day, they promised to fix the machine and they did. I rang to check it was fixed before I left work and they remembered exactly who I was which was nice.

I had the breakfast, it was nice, same as other hotels I suppose.

When I checked out the next day, the manager spoke to me personally and also emailed me afterwards.

I feel like this was a situation that really couldn't be helped. It wasn't the hotel's fault it was full and they did all they could to rectify it. That's why I am still giving them 4 stars. What I would recommend is that they replace the old fashioned ACs with something more modern which is less likely to break down.

I would still stay here again, although I wouldn't recommend the basement rooms if you have luggage because you have to drag your own luggage up the stairs.
