“A fantastic experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2013

I chose to stay in the St Pancras Renaissance London Hotel because I was interested to experience the restoration and refurbishment of the building. I found it really fabulous and thoroughly enjoyed my stay here. The quality of the service, at all levels, was second to none and there was real attention to the needs of the hotel guest. Worthy of special mention is Victoria Maria who ensured that we had a superb meal in the Gilbert Scott restaurant and that I celebrated my 70th birthday in a memorable way. Many thanks, Victoria!!

I was lucky enough to stay here on a trip to London, the hotel and service were without fault and outstanding in every way. Make sure to take advantage of the club lounge, its a good breakfast with lots of choice. The building itself is an architectural gem and well worth a tour. Its perfectly situated for access to the Eurostar saving you time and effort. My London go to now, you won't be disappointed. My only regret... I didn't buy one of the fantastic robes that had in-room :-)

Room Tip: We had a suite at the top of the hotel, very spacious. It has fabulous access to the Eurostar in the...

Thank you so much for your kind comments. Great to hear you enjoyed your stay in Chambers with us. As you experienced, the exclusive Chambers Club, accessed by those staying in that part of the building, is a truly exceptional experience. We do hope to welcome you back soon (and will be sure to have a dressing gown waiting for you!)

What an amazing place sitting in the heart of London.

If you are looking for an hotel with history and beautifully decorated, look no further, this is it.

A top class experience recommended to anyone.

If you do have a chance to stay in, don't miss the hotel tour, it will blow you away.

Victorian decor, fantastic stairwells ( might remember them from the moving stairs on the Harry Potter movie ) .

Staff is very friendly and polite and willing to help to cater your needs.

I Sir John Betjeman called this Gothic treasure “too beautiful and too romantic to survive” , but it did and here it is with all its glory .

I stayed there only one night for a conference. On the negative side the price is a bit outrageous and the view from some room (mine was facing a wall that was at 1 meter from my windows)

On the positive side, this building in entirely integrated into the St Pancras train/metro station, hence you will have no problem to travel around using metro as the nearest metro station is litteraly zero meters away )))

The victorian architecture is purely stunning. The early morning staff (5am) is very competent (they helped us to find a good coffee without which I cannot wake up.)

Thanks again for the good support.

Room Tip: ask for the view from your room as you may end up facing a wall

Dear Frédéric,
Thank you so much for your kind feedback. We agree that the hotel is arguably the best connected in London, with easy access to both St Pancras and Kings Cross train stations, 5 underground lines, not to mention the Eurostar. Great to hear the morning team were on hand to help with your coffee requests! We do hope to welcome you back again soon.

Yesterday my family and I took the walking tour of this hotel and were amazed by its beauty. The interior is stunning. The tour was informative and fun and we were also shown around one of the suites. I would highly recommend it.

It is worth staying at this hotel purely for the stunning architecture and the sympathetic way in which it has been restored. The lobby and public areas have a "wow factor" which gives this hotel a real edge over some of the bland, faceless (but perfectly nice) corporate hotels in the area.

I stayed in a twin "Barlow" room (one of the cheaper ones) and was impressed by the comfortable beds (three quarter size, not singles, with lovely toppers and linen), classy decor and modern bathrooms with very nice toiletries. Despite its busy location, the room was blissfully silent. Terrible water pressure meant there was a trickle of a shower and the only reason I don't give this place 5 stars! Powerful showers and comfy beds are my two real must haves.

The hotel has a very well equipped and modern gym (which I had entirely to myself) and by the looks of things a beautiful spa area which I'd like to go back and sample.

I loved the bar area with its extensive cocktail menu and cool vibe - although it's best to avoid looking at the bill (over £50 for 4 drinks and a small basket of chips)! The rather steep pricing put us off trying the restaurants, when there are so many good choices around. (My recommendation is the Grain Store just behind Kings Cross).

Overall a different and special experience and I would definitely return.

Thank you for your kind comments. I am so pleased you enjoyed your stay with us and are keen to return! As you mention, the Barlow rooms offer comfortable beds and all the facilities expected of the modern traveler. Our bathrooms are all fitted with power showers and so I am sorry to hear this was not the experience you had. I can assure you this is not the norm. We had no issues with water pressure reported the month you stayed. As such, I don’t believe you mentioned during your stay that you were having problems as I am confident one of our maintenance team professionals would have been able to rectify the situation quickly if we had known. It was great to hear you were able to enjoy drinks in the Booking Office and also explore the local area. Kings Cross is a fascinating and fast developing part of London and I do hope we are able to welcome you back again soon.

The St Pancras Renaissance Marriott hotel is an alluring enigma. An almost fortress-like exterior, combined with the sweeping windows and ceilings beloved of Italianate architectural creations betray its builders' nods to the Age of Empire, where Great Britain stood proud in the world. Students of history and architecture will find their dreams fulfilled by spending a couple of nights, here, but the hotel's main function is now to serve the modern age - the new high speed train routes to the continent.

This last it does impeccably and - if you're a first-time user of the Eurostar and have no idea what to expect - you cannot do better than book a room which comes with the VIP transfer service. This is a process which actually lives up to its rather grand-sounding title: you're collected from your room by a member of the concierge team (the hotel calls them 'butlers') and escorted directly to your train, bypassing the often lengthy time-consuming queues forming at security. Your man then continues to the appropriate platform, navigating the potentially confusing maze of options with consummate and practised ease before delivering you to the appropriate carriage and loading your luggage for you. It's impossible to overstate just how valuable this is for a first-time user with suitcases. And Marriott's people do it perfectly, imbuing you with a sense of confidence throughout.

The hotel itself is five star in every respect: the Chambers Club rooms are sensational monuments to an age of decadence, with ceilings as high as twenty five feet (eight metres) above you and no two exactly the same. We used the place twice: the first on our way to Paris, the second on our return. The first room was an oasis of calm and peace, and led directly to the Grand Staircase, on which we managed to get lost, trying to find breakfast. It's a large hotel.

The second room, however, was unique. It was slightly to the left hand side of ‘the Lovers’ statue and the Cloud: Meteoros sculptures, that float above the High Speed platforms on the Grand Terrace, and afforded a unique and utterly central view of the Eurostar arrivals and departures. Both rooms came with their own Espresso coffee machines, plentiful toiletries, fluffy towels and the largest and softest bathrobes in the history of the universe. In many rooms the Wi-Fi is free and the beds have silk sheets...

Marriott's strength has always been its staff, and in this instance the St Pancras hotel excels. From the doormen, to the receptions, to the Concierge to the butlers - every single one carries themselves with an air of quiet, discreet confidence, yet none is patronising or abrupt and nothing is too much trouble.

The Station aims to become the iconic image of stations everywhere, and certainly the ultimate train destination in Europe. The hotel, in our view, exceeds that and has created an edifice which is not lacking in any respect. If we could award more than five stars, we would.

Room Tip: The Chambers Club rooms are outstanding.
