Just returned from a "slice of heaven" deal at this hotel which included two spa treatments, a double room, a three course dinner and breakfast.
The hotel is friendly, efficiently run and very comfortable. My main complaint is the design. As a reviewer writes below, it really does look like a travelogue or a tesco supermarket from the outside - modern and red-brick with zero character which makes the whole experience low on atmos. The lobby is messy and underwhelming, made worse by the chintz-covered municipal-looking entrance doors. The rooms and communal areas are gaudy and brash-looking - all chandeliers and sparkle, but little taste.
For a hotel with large grounds, I was really disappointed to find the spa is underground - the gym is dark and windowless, and with a tiny skylight at one end, the pool is largely bathed in twilight - a real missed opportunity for a hotel situated in the grounds of the beautiful Syon Park.
You can't book a particular treatment, but instead have to turn up for a consultation, where they tailor make a treatment for you. This feels fussy - I just wanted a treatment menu to choose what I wanted rather than this OTT intro. I could have done without the menus for non-cosmetic surgery dotted around - the spa seems to be owned by one of London's big plastic surgeons - not quite the healthy, wholesome experience I was looking for.
The food menu at the pool is served by the in-house cafe. On offer are overly indulgent ice-cream concoctions - many alcohol-infused - at 12 quid a go, when I just fancied a simple fruit smoothie or salad.
Drinks in the courtyard are pleasant - but again, the design is disappointing - the tables and chairs look cheap and the moroccan lamps don't fit with the rest of the decor - my boyfriend compared it to a b&q garden centre.
The restaurant is the best thing about this hotel. This is one area of the hotel where the decor works - it's an elegant muted-toned room with a slightly retro feel. The food was delicious and the service on pointe, but we were conscious we were on a set deal menu. The waiter did a big sell on the smoked salmon for starter and we were inspired by the chunky slices going to tables around us but when ours arrived, it was a really heavy cheesy pie with a few chunks of chopped salmon in - disappointing. Our main course of lamb was delicious, as was the cheese course, but we couldn't help feeling jealous of the steaks going to our neighbours. Breakfast was really delicious - a cut above.
I think this hotel might grow in to itself a bit - the service is great, the food is good, the rooms are seriously comfy... there's lots going for it... but for this price, I expected the design and atmosphere to be better.

Thank you for staying with us and for your feedback. I am truly sorry that the overall experience didn't meet your expectations. We recognized that we were introducing a somewhat radical approach with our spa concept, but we wanted to make sure that each individual had a tailored experience; hence, the consultation to establish what you really want. It might not be for everybody.
