We are staying at the beautiful Grosvenor House, JW Marriott. On our last visit we dined at the JW Steakhouse and were looking forward to dining there again last evening. The restaurant was very busy but we did get a reservation for a later seating. Service ok but not impressive. My husband specifically inquired about the lamb chops before ordering. They were highly recommended by our server but unfortunately they were very tough and excessively fatty. I ordered a NY strip medium rare and it arrived well done. While they were quick to offer a newly prepared steak but they did say it would be 15 minutes....so now we are longer dining together....
The next steak arrived and although not overcooked this time, was also a disappointment as it lhad no flavour, had a crumbly texture and was extremely dry. I ate a few bites of it and decided to settle for the side dishes but basically went home hungry. No one ever came back to our table to check on us until we flagged someone down for the bill. They offered a dessert in compensation for the steak but we declined. In the end they comped us two glasses of wine but didn't visit our table again.
An expensive steakhouse that cannot cook a steak to temperature is in my opinion a FAIL. Also serving a guest an expensive steak and ordering them to cut it through as soon as it is set in front of them is also a FAIL....I guess they do this so they won't have to return to the table. We did not want to be comped wine or dessert ( or steak for that matter). What we wanted was an enjoyable dining experience for which we were happy to pay.
