Having wanted to visit Petrus for some time I finally treated myself and my girlfriend to a dinner there. Having eaten at another Ramsay restaurant previously, I knew to go in prepared with my credit card.
What I wasn't prepared for was just how good the food was, and the friendliness of the serving staff. Our waiters were both pleasant and engaging, with real passion and insight on the food. The sommelier made an excellent wine suggestion, taking into account my limited budget on this front. The food was incredible -my starter of Pithivier of Quail & Foie Gras was divine (I wanted a pint glass of the jus afterwards!), my partner's Haddock was the finest she's ever had.
The only critique I have is the frankly staggering mark-up on the aforementioned wine. Also, I felt like the service, which was whip-quick at the start of the night, really wound down as the evening went on to the stage where we were left with our empty coffee cups and chocolates on our table for a good 10 minutes after we were done.
That being said, neither of these detracted from an all-around excellent evening. A genuine pleasure to eat here.
